Help Facebook App Nearby Places Issue

When checking in with my Facebook app when I am in restaurants etc the nearby places doesn't always bring up the place that I am currently sitting in, and the distance measurement for the place can be way out too.

I happened to be in a particular eating place today and opened Facebook using packet data and the place I was in didn't automatically show up, it will show however if I manually search for the place. They had Wi-Fi available, so I switched it on and did a check in again to find the eating place that I was sitting in automatically show, however this doesn't always automatically work by using the shops Wi-Fi, and wondered why there is such an issue.

It can't be to do with the packet data strength as someone with the same phone tried checking in and they had the shop automatically appear in nearby places right away, however they use Gingerbread whereas I use Jellybean, don't know if that makes a difference regarding this issue or not.

Also my phone can say a nearby place is further away with their same phone showing it much closer.

Could it be an issue with my internal satellite aerial? and does anyone else with the same phone have similar issues?

I know it's not a great deal as I can manually search and it will find the place I am currently in, but it's annoying when someone's phones works with this with no problems and mine doesn't.

PS: I am up-to-date with the Facebook App and software.

Assuming you had GPS enabled (if you didn't, your location depends on triangulation from cell towers which can sometimes be WAY off), run GPS Status to see how well your phone is seeing the satellites. It's the best diagnostic tool for your question.

Yes, I already had GPS enabled. I take it that it doesn't use GPS when using Wi-Fi? as when I used the shops Wi-Fi it then found the shop on Facebooks check in nearby location.

Let me just add something, I'm not saying that GPS isn't working on my phone, what I am saying as per my OP is that the Facebook check in nearby places often doesn't report accurate distances for nearby places and often needs me to manually enter the place I am in so that it shows up so I can post a check in on Facebook.

Once it has been manually entered and if I come out after posting it then go back in it usually will show when I click on the check in from scratch.

Right so the problem could actually be at googles end.
I dont use facebook but when i check in on google+ its never accurate but navigation is very accurate. Is it more accurate for you on Google Maps for example?
Ps i think the gps has to have a view of the sky to work so maybe while youre indoors, it has to triangulate from the phone towers which isnt accurate

Yeah, but I find it strange that someone with the same model of smartphone albeit a lower version being 2.3.6 Gingerbread whereas I have 4.1.2 Jellybean that theirs seems to find the place at first time of asking.

I find my Google+ to be accurate plus Google Maps most of the time, it's just this Facebook App that doesn't seem to report accurate details all the time.
