Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

Check this thing out. It's for the HTC HD2, but hopefully they make something like this for the Incredible:

HTC Car Cradle Kit - CU S400

Description
Mount your HTC HD2 securely to your dashboard or windshield with this car cradle kit. Including a replacement battery cover with charging connection and a microUSB charger, your HD2's NaviPanel will activate upon being connected to this mount, so it's instantly ready to guide you to your destination.

Thanks for that ecredible, that looks awesome. I don't want a window mount because of theft, and the dash mounts I've seen (bean bag style) are big and clunky looking.

^^^That looks small, with a nice clean profile. Now if someone can produce this dock so it's universal and works like a regular gps dock (whole unit docks in - all corners) we'll have a winner.

That's pretty weak... I used my Moto droid for navigation all the time in landscape mode.. This may end up being a deal breaker.

My apologies, it's only the car app that doesn't go into landscape mode. I should have clarified things when I made my post.

what about cup holder type of mount? I find that the phone screen is less affected by the direct sun there.....

any links to one?

Another thing...GPS navigation is actually much more useful in portrait than in landscape.

I've made the case for this in another thread, thanks for stating it here, too.

Looks like I won't be getting the Verizon car dock since it requires removing any type of case you have on the phone. That's pointless. It seems as though any universal dock would be a better fit for all of use with cases.

I think I've decided to go with a universal vent mounting clip. It'll be easy enough to hide a power line there, and close enough I can still hook it up to my stereo.

I've heard the suction cup window mounts are flaky during hot days plus the only 2 places I can stick them(bottom left, bottom right of window in California) make hooking up to my stereo more difficult.

I don't want to permanently stick a mount to my dash even though in my WRX the center of the dash would be ideal as I can't see through the hood scoop anyway.

Has anyone had any good luck yet with a specific universal grip type? Being able to use the mount with a case on the phone is a major advantage to me.

+1 on this.

I have a garmin gps mount in my car and ideally I would like to have an attachment that allows me to but the phone in a holder with it's cae on then attach it to my existing garmin gps mount.

I got a Bracketron vent/dash mount while I was walking by a radioshack yesterday. I've got it attached to a vent in my center console, with a retractable charger cord from my lighter at the moment.

On my drive home from San Francisco to Sacramento yesterday it worked pretty well. The freeways are fairly bumpy in some areas and it feels like everything is held securely, and there is room for the power cord and headphone jacks to be utilized.

I have two moto droid car mounts and I'm wondering if the actual arm is compatible with the plastic holder? From the picture, kind looks like it would slide onto it. The moto droid car mount is definitely a cleaner look too.

I'm was trying to wait for the release of the official mount, but if I cannot keep my phone it its case then I guess I'm going to have to get a universal mount.

I was looking at the official Verizon universal mount. Does anyone have any opinions on that one?

I'll be waiting for the better ones to come out in the future. The current ones out there are not the best or are only made for the iPhone only.

I have the OEM Inc car dock & love it. It does not automatically go into car mode as does the moto droid dock, which is fine by me. OEM Inc dock comes with a removeable holster. OEM car dock is very sturdy. I prefer it, greatly, over generic/one size fits all mounts. I got 25% off at VZ store. OR wait a few weeks and there will be more accessories available.

Glock I don't know as of yet. I look at it this way if it works then great, if not then I'm out 8 bux including shipping. I was also looking at the bracketron, but was unsure about the flexible arm, I don't want it to wobble, hence the reason i got the cheaper one. I guess I may have to address the arms grabbing the side if it causes the volume rocker to adjust. I'm sure a little bit-o Dremel action will take care of it, if needs be.

That one looks similar to the Bracketron. Seems like it would wobble when on the road.

I liked the OEM one, but didn't want my phone to face out. Instead I picked up the one that clips into the holster face in, and comes with a case for the phone itself.

I tried this one first...

But didn't care for it because of 2 things. First, my vol up/dw buttons were always on the screen. Secondly, it was too difficult to use the phone (noti panel) w/ those big jaws in the way. The solution? Cave in to the man!

I got it for 25% off in the store so it came to $22 bucks. I think online orders get discounts too, but I didn't see it on the site yet. The mount has lots of swivel joints and feels very secure. It also doubles as a holster so you can take your Incredible w/ you if your in clothes wo/ pockets or just like to show up the iPhone world w/ your red and black awesomeness. :D

The fact that I can't really use a case (or lose convenience) sucks. But I get to use it wo/ a case which IMO does actually feel better. I also am allowed the light weight and smaller formfactor in my pocket. And of course I have insurance for that time it does frisbee off my waist into a pile of soup at the local pub.

That CU S400 kit is amazing! Why in the world is that not available for the DI? I still don't understand the lack of external charging ports. :(

I used this dock for the GPS this weekend. I traveled over 600 miles and the GPS was crazy accurate. the dock rotates very easily and you can control the positioning very well. I highly recommend.
