Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I'm borrowing a Incredible from verizon for the next couple of weeks. Sprint better get off their arse or they might be losing another customer. To be honest I thought the EVO might be something to help them get traction in rebuilding their customer base. But to tout the EVO 45 days ago with no followup in regards to pricing and release dates, other than send us your email address and we'll let you know when it comes out, is plain idiotic.

we smacked it up, flipped it and rubbed it down, to no avail...and the reps apparently had no clue...after we failed in doing so, the rep said it was not possible with the device

as i said, i've never used an android device so i'm trying to learn about it prior to getting my evo...sorry if it's a dumb question
With my Hero, I can look at photos in portrait or landscape. All I have to do is turn the phone counterclockwise and it switches automatically. That's using the stock HTC viewer.

Dear Mr. XXXXX,

Thank you for contacting Dan@Sprint.com.

Per our conversation, at this time we do not have an estimated released
date or equipment pricing for the HTC EVO 4G. I apologize for this
inconvenience. We also discussed the required price plans for the HTC
EVO 4G, which is an Everything data plan (individual or shared) or our
Simply Everything.

At this time, the HTC EVO 4G does have 3G/4G mobile hotspot capabilities
which is a built-in mobile hotspot functionality. HTC EVO 4G allows up
to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices to share the 4G experience. At this time,
it has not been determined if there will be an extra cost for this
functionality. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to address your
concerns. If you have additional questions or concerns you are welcome
to contact me at (757) 223-3289. I am available Monday through Friday,
9:00 AM

I think a lot of people getting the Incredible today will be disappointed with the phone and they will be returning them to get the EVO in a few weeks.

now all we need is dans real email and we will be good

sprint missed there chance like i said before they needed this phone ready to go at ctia not 2-3 months later...

Think people were reading me wrong....I wasnt necessarily saying that Flash had to come with Froyo or vice versa. Flash is a seperate entity, the only thing that needs to be in place as for as the OS is the software for it.....sort of like how WebOs 1.4 had the coding needed for Flash 10.1, which 1.4 came out like a month ago.Im sure whatever OS Android is on already has this in place, or atleast the fundamentals for it.I was just stating what was originally reported, probably back from the reveal of the EVO. At one point they said Froyo would either be on the EVO by release, or soon after. The linked report said Flash would be out by June, with Froyo closely behind most likely. So Im just guessing that the EVO would fall along somewhere in there.

well, this has been discussed a lot. sprint had no choice but to reveal the evo at CTIA. the phone was still in the testing phase. CTIA was used to get attention for the evo. but now, the phone is done. so it wont be much longer.

Keep in mind the HD2 runs on Win-blows-mobile and that hampers a lot of the potential in that device.

hd2 handles win mobile like a chap 1ghz processor smooths out ALOT. Now if microsoft programed win mob 6.5 and previous ones with it in mind that cell phones are not computers they could have been alot better

they generated alot of hype for a device that wasnt projected to come out till summer and at this point after the incred was released without a hint at ctia it stole alot of the general consumer thunder away from it.

i mean heck its not even up on the front page of engadget anymore...

The Inc is a pretty sweet phone. So I don't think there will be a lot returns to get EVO. My situation is pretty unique, my BB died last week and I'm traveling the next couple of weeks and I will need access to email. So I bit the bullet and ordered an Inc for a trial run. The NY event better give clear guidance and a release date by June 6th or they have a lost another 10+ year customer. Drksilenc nailed it you announce something and get everyones attention with no substantial follow up for 60 days. That is completely asinine.

trust me. starting may 12, evo will be back on the front page of everything

I think it's plain idiotic that people believe the Droid Incredible is equal to the EVO 4G, and I love my Incredible device. I was recommending it since January. The reason relies in the software and what 4G enabled is truly capable of. I think it's also idiotic that people stating that Sprint dropped the ball because the Droid Incredible is out now, which was originally slated for the 1Q. It got delayed twice. Again, it's idiotic that the EVO 4G device wasn't ready during the CTIA, yet people feels that they should have released it already, ignoring the fact that it was always a Summer release. The Droid Incredible release date and pricing was announced in April, yet it's a huge hit. The EVO 4G pricing and release date should be announced 2 months before the date? That's idiotic. You get my point, right? EVO production isn't Gold yet, but let's release it now? Now this is completely brilliant.

As for Froyo and Flash 10.1. Flash will be pre-installed in Froyo. Flash 10.1 is a separate application. Either you wait for Froyo, or you just download the app, which will probably get leaked in May. Your device will not come already installed with Flash 10.1.

Right on the money.

There seems to be a lot of "problem" threads with the DI. I hope this isn't a reflection of typical HTC quality or lack there of??

All - the problem I have is that reality = perception = marketing = hype.

I WANT to stay with SPRINT - no interest in switching to VZW for the INC, or to AT&T for the iPhone. The concern is that Apple and Verizon sure know how to hype products that may not be "the best". I'm not dissing either of the devices - as I'm sure that they are both good. I believe that the EVO will be better than either - but, other than my purchase, what I beleive doesn't matter. The other(s) will get the hype.

I hope so Dylan... I hope so. I'm taking the family to Colorado this summer and it would be great to have the EVO along for the ride. I know there isn't any 4G in Colorado as of yet; however last year I was using a laptop to watch movies late at night and it did the job, but how cool would it be to actually have data connectivity to watch online content too.

I am loving SP right about now. Could not agree more. Though I could have gotten a new phone months ago, I am willing to wait on a phone that I can truly keep for two years without worrying about getting another phone. I am getting the EVO and will probably get my wife the new LG phone that will be coming out sometime after.

i understand what everyones saying it just i have 3 lines for a reason... new phone every 6 months and all lolits just gonna throw off my cycle of new phoneship....

When it comes down to it the only real difference between the EVO & Inc are larger screen and the potential for 4g. I know there's camera, hdmi etc but that stuff doesn't really impact me or how I use a phone. I'm not crusing youtube all day or trying to download hd movies from nexflix to play on my tv. I have other devices that will do that for me. So when you say there is no comparison between EVO and the Inc you might want to hold.

I'm not sure how many of you really see what Sprint really has done here. They tried to hold off the migration of customers by annoucing a device way too early. That's it bottom line. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't in some type due dilligence stage with a potential buyer and they are just trying to maintain their market share.

I agree 100%.

Well then I guess you are victim of your own desires.

^^ Off topic! Banlandia, banlandia!

LOL...just playing around.

Just had a dream about the EVO and Sprint revolutionizing the wireless phone business. I don't think my dreams are too far from reality come June 6th. It's not too difficult to imagine Sprint becoming "Big Yellow" if they keep playing cards such as 4G and EVO.

Doubt it. Verizon has PLENTY of fanbois, even without a nice phone. It's seriously almost on the level of the iPhone fanbois. My brother is one of the Verizon fanbois. He's trying to get me to switch to Verizon cause "the Incredible is pretty much just as good as the phone you're gonna get" and then quotes all of the other Verizon marketing. Uhhh, no thanks, I do my own research and make an educated decision that isn't based on marketing hype.

Wave as you go by :) I'm heading from Colorado back east for vacation this year. It's a horrible thing, but I have family there that my kids have never met.

I can't wait to use my phone as a hotspot for the iPad I'm getting around the same time (that will be used in the car instead of a overhead DVD player for the kids to watch movies on) to do the same.
