Root [MetroPCS] Tethering for MPCS.F6....!!! All Roms **VIDEO for stock only** UPDATED 12-02-14

Not really follow...
Is droidwall same as "linux firewall"?
How do you install android tuner under Linux firewall
Thanks.

I worded it wrong, install android tuner(android tuner free). when you open android tuner look for the linux firewall subcategory (it's in the 4th column counting left to right) disable network connectivity for com.lge.upsell.

If droidwall can disable network access for systems apps it should works just fine.

This is an easier way to tether than installing wifi tether for root and killing hostapd every time.

For the method described in the OP of this thread, I use VPN on the phone and I don't need to do anything on my PC.
Using the stock mobile tether, my PC's browser always end up at t-mobile page regardless if I use VPN on my phone or not. Will try a VPN on the PC when I have a chance.

Is there a quick way to activate the stock mobile tether? I have to click "system setting" -> "Tethering & networks" -> "mobile hotspot" -> "mobile hotpot"

On my huawei valiant, i have an icon named '4g hotspot' to one-click activate legal tether....

I no longer use this method- I pay the $5/month now since I use it all the time for work (can't have my internet drop in the middle of something).

While I was still taking it, I found the steps in this thread would screw up my phone if I toggled the app that came on my phone while this hack was active.

I can confirm that various settings toggled will get you free tethering (it'll connect). But without obfuscating your PC data somehow, MPCS will block the connections. If you do this enough times, they just might de-activate your phone from the network. Thats why I whole-heartedly recommend Tor on your phone. It can encrypt ALL your data ON your PHONE.

I'm taking it for granted that your phone is mobile and your PC(s) aren't. I prefer my hotspot to look like a normal router to my PCsthat connect.

I.e. no setup on PC side. Connect. Thats all.

This way, I just grab my phone and go. I have clients. I cannot change their settings. It just makes more sense for me.

Also, I underclock my phone while use as a hotspot. 700mhz is more than enough for a dumb router... lol

I get about 10hrs as hotspot for 3 PCs.

And since I started paying for it, my speeds jumped three fold. I used to top out on BitTorrent PC around 600kbits/s. Now I regularly max around 1.6mbits/s the whole month.

Side note: I am an avid BitTorrent user. I have a 5gig plan and use 15gig/month ish. Before paying for tether, my speed sucked no matter what. I now pay $70/month. I have not seen any speed drop (not caused by lack of signal) since upgrading.

I also have separate wifi @ home. So, 15gig ain't all my bit torrent activities, just when away from faster wifi.

The moment I upgraded my plan, my speed shot up. That was just about 1.5months ago.

I check this thread often, I'll update if my speeds drop back down....

It just might be worth the extra $5/month folks.... Just *might*.

Download FoxFi and FoxFi AddOn. The FoxFi AddOn has a web proxy on the phone that can be used to hide tether usage. Works for me.

Thank you for all your help but no luck with FoxFi/FoxFi AddOn. Still got the upsell page. I think I will stay with the method describes in the 1st post.

I am at the last step where I am supposed to kill hostapd in AT? However I never see that file. Does it only come on when we have WifiTether on? I clicked on Kernel in AT.

Am I doing something wrong?

Turn on Wifi tether and it will show. Then kill it.

Can someone try this method of tethering?

Input 3845#*500# into dialer to enter Hidden Menu.

Under Wi-Fi Setting - LG, select Upsell, Upsell Url, then click Upsell Try Off.

Back back out to Hidden Menu.

Enter Settings, select, Upsell URL, then click Upsell Try Off.

Return to Hidden Menu.

Scroll down to Connectivity Test and uncheck Entitlement.

Now enable the stock Mobile Hotspot, connect with your PC using Internet Explorer 11 see if you can browse the web.

(Firefox and Chrome didn't work for me, and this method doesn't require root access)

Something strange happend today, the access control doesn't seem to be giving me a notification when I try to connect to the Hotspot.
