HTC Desire Or Nexus One?

So which one will be cheaper in the UK?
On contract, The desire will be free on most networks.

The N1 on the other hand will almost certainly incur a price tag, plus limitations on price plan (likely only one 24 month option).

I like the N1's sexy look, but having a hero as a stop gap, I really cant stand nor use the track ball.

The desire might not be as pretty, but bar the duel mic, and some physical buttons is the same beast. And as I could get it for free, with UK support and doorstep swap if it breaks, I have to say the Desire gets my vote.

If Google had sold the N1 instore, they'd be outselling iphones. But they havent.

Hi, newbie here. I have been lurking checking out all things connected to the Desire. The reason, well up to about 4 weeks ago I would have sold my 3 children for an Iphone and then I happened to come across the Desire. Looking deeper it looks like a fantastic phone with features that, from peoples reviews, will scare the living sh** out of Apple.

Any way the reason for the post. As I said I would have sold my children for an Iphone then pops up the Desire now we have the Nexus one. For me its a straight choice between the Desire and the Nexus but which one. Is it like buying a Vauxhall Astra and re badging it Opel ????

Depends on how many children you have left

Lol, basically.

I would say go for the Desire because it has HTC Sense. The skin HTC puts over the stock android GUI to beautify it. The internals are pretty much the same (N1 has external noise cancellation on calls)

It is very confusing, on one hand you have HTC support saying that spech-to-text isn't supported and then you have a photo from people with a 'hands-on' with the device which shows the microphone button available? If the device doesn't support it then why have the button there?? (Desire on the left)

I hope this feature is in the Desire as it'll make my decision between the Nexus One and the Desire a little bit easier. I was set on getting the Nexus before the Desire was released

The speech-to-text is available on the desire as an install as said somewhere else on this forum and it works very well, I often use it to send text messages and on my English to Spanish translation app and very rarely have to correct errors :D

The weird thing about this thread is that a lot of the N1 users want sense on their phones ;)

I am in the same tough decision as the rest of you guys. I am in the US and was just about ready to get rid of my iPhone and get the N1 when I heard about the Desire, which is basically the same but with the brilliant Sense UI. To make the decision even harder for you, there is an Alpha version of the N1 running the Sense UI ROM. Check it out here: YouTube - HTC Sense on the Nexus One (Desire ROM)

I am sure that the Desire will eventually enable the speech-to-text feature (either from HTC or by hacking), so the way I see it, it is a really tough decision between the faster updates with the N1, or the optical trackball with the Desire. Tough call!

Whoa settle down there chief. Don't start beating yourself in the head and screeching, your neighbors will think something is up.

ok guys im also in the same boat, im due an upgrade next friday and ive done a lot of hours looking at nexus and desire phones, to me the colours seem to be amazing on the desire, also seems faster on the internet (not by much, but enough)

you see once i choose a new phone then thats me in for another 18 months and the last thing i need is getting 1 and then a better phone comes out..(you no what i mean) anyway like many others i really need to know if its definately going to be able to have the speech text because thats a very cool concept that people will be pretty impressed with and something id use quite often.. even if its an app..i dont care but it really needs to be possible...fingers crossed..

now im worried, hearing people moan about the video and internet sound being out of sync and what poor sound comes out of speaker this might now mean i wait for something else....what a bummer...

As I own both Desire and N1(both non-rooted) I would like to point that at this moment Desire has more memory available to use which makes him run faster and smoother than N1.

and that's just my homescreens :)

P.S. If you want me to run any tests - feel free to ask...

afonja can you tell me if there are any issues with the desires sounnd being out of sync on videos and internet clips also what your thoughts on the speaker phone is like and any other issues on both phones you have noticed. and finally if text speech on the desire is possible.thx

- Yes I do have issues with video and audio sync...(just about 0,3sec)

- I do not really listen to music a lot on my phone so I cannot comment on speakers...

- I have issue on Nexus One with internet throught mobile network (when I turn on Mobile network I can see 3G icon but have no connection, need to re-do it again). I'm not sure if it's the issue everyone talking about...

- I do like HTC Desire more :)

BTW Does anyone know if I can ask HTC to exchange/fix Nexus One 3G if I'm out of 14 days after purchase?
