Root [Virgin Mobile] [MOD] Universal LTE Virgin Mobile APN Fix [WIP] CM/AOSP 4.4.x

So definitely good to go on Beanstalk and OSE, but Hangouts is going to be the common factor here. On a side note though, nothing but FCs when I switched to ART on Beanstalk, so if you're running that one stick to Dalvik for now.

No errors running the fix on LS 4/6. No lte only 3g. But I think that's a ROM issue. Since other ROMs get lte in my area

CURRENT STATUS

***Note - your warranty is now void. If your phone dies, its on you.

This is a continued work in process. This version was built for the universal lte builds most ROM builders have moved to.

Currently we have working 4G LTE with both MMS send and receive working on CM / AOSP ROMs via Hangouts.

This mod will:
1. Search and edit appropriate lines in build.prop
2. Reset the telephony databases (first boot will take a few)
3. copy + correct apns-conf file
4. Add / update the eri.xml file

Directions:
Flash ROM
Flash Fix
Boot
It may take up to 5min to connect
profit....

First boot may take a few minutes to bring up 3G/LTE symbols and get internet connection. The telephony database is being rebuilt - give it a few minutes. If you get an acore type error then try to flash ROM, boot, then flash APN fix.

FAQ's in the 2nd post. I tend to tweak my build.prop a bit more to get the most I can out of it. If you want my custom "fix" that includes the above fix (so dont flash both) click here for it.

Wait, are you not on MK5?

figured maybe you'd update the modem on it. I actually had to return my phone to VM cause charging port was broken, I havent heard anything about why it was rooted, They sent me a replacement, but i dont think it has knox on it. As it doesnt appear in the download screen.

So I guess i can confirm it works on MK5, I'm on LiquidSmooth 04/06 using Textra for mms, had too many problems with hangouts, often it would not send and kept retrying, would send about 20 mins later.

When you refer to MK5 I believe you mean the modem and not the MK5 ROM. Liquidsmooth is CM/AOSP based.

My phone came with MG2 but I flashed a MK5 modem - just never a MK5 ROM.

FYI:
I'm on LS 4/8/14 using MopedRyder's "Universal_vmu_ApnFix-v.R1.zip" fix.I can send/receive SMS/MMS on LTE and WiFi connections using Textra. I have not tried using over a 3G connection. I did not change anything in APN settings. I just flashed MopedRyder's Universal Fix. I just mention that Textra works because I do not like Hangouts and thought there may be others that would prefer something besides Hangouts.
Thanks to EVERYONE for their hard work.

edit:
I recently checked over a 3G connection and both MMS and SMS work. I also failed to mention that I "Freeze" the stock Messaging app.

Currently using CyanogenMod Version11-20140210-SNAPSHOT-M3-d2spr on Virgin Mobile. Recently started having problems with my data. Flashed this fix and all is good. Works great. Thank You.

If I flash this APN fix, do I need to flash something else to go back to stock?

In other words, does the NAND I made before flashing this remove what this does, or does this persist even after deleting everything and installing a new ROM?

Things like radios are persistent, so even if you wipe everything, that radio is still there. Does this behave like that? I just want to be sure my path back to my current build is laid out in front of me before I begin down the path of AOSP.

The patch only makes changes to your current ROM. Flashing another ROM or restoring a nandroid will remove it's effects.

Hmm. Getting an error: "Can't open file. bad" Both the R1 and the custom... From the SDcard. Carbon Nightly. Your old VMU flashed fine.

[edit] Jesus. Never mind. I was "save as"-ing the link. [facepalm]

Lol - it happens. Point to note. Even after flashing any older fix the new R1 is fine to flash over it.
