Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Yeah...totally agree. It is exhausting trying to keep up with all of the phones and the technology. I think the EVO 4G will be such a large jump forward (especially from my Katana) that it makes sense as my first smart phone experience. And I think this will also be true for many other people...BUT...the Motorola Shadow looks like it will be quite delicious looking!...really like the styling....which I think is missing a bit with the EVO 4G....and the Incredible for that matter. The Desire....again IMNSHO....is the most beautiful of the recently deployed phones on the market. From the leaked photos I think the Motorola Shadow may be as nice. But not to go off topic....these phones....like the Motorola...still won't be 4G....correct? A month down the road having another phone spec'd close to the EVO 4G doesn't make sense or seem probable. So even the Shadow....that looks to be exclusive to Verizon...will at best still be close to the EVO 4G....and maybe better looking....but not WiMax compatible. My big point is that upgrade fever will always happen...but it looks like this is a great phone and a great place to jump into the smart phone world.

It would be naive to think this will last long though....by end of summer...or the holidays at latest...we will see an EVO killer...and by the time we come to this time next year....our phone...while nice...will be showing it's age...just a bit. No phone rumored for anytime soon is going to exceed it.....and even if so...not by much...and probably not on Sprint.

If I owned another smart phone I might wait until end of summer...or December....but I just can't go on any further...my wife and I will both be getting this phone...and we are more than READY!!! What better way to jump into the world of smart phones than to buy a beast like this? :D

Give Sprint a break. They are working like mad to correct this and are starting to see some positive results:

Sprint Nextel, the third largest US mobile network operator, managed to slow the rate of customer losses in the first quarter and recorded its first sequential increase in operating revenues for nearly three years.

very smart choice. i don't think any phone will be out this year better then the evo. maybe sometime next year but not any time soon. and people will get enough play out of it to see it for themselves to. the evo will be something to hold onto even if you get another phone. the evo is a game changer and one of those phones that is the next level up. it's not just some phone that happens to be better. its revolutionary device. it will have it's shine. people are so used to what they see and do, but not respecting it as it is. i'm not saying if you don't like the evo then your crazy. I'm just talking about those revolutionary devices period. i mean it was just the end of last year that it wasn't to many phones on the level of phones now. these are the new age of phones here people.

and at the end of the day it is just a phone. so let's keep our heads right and know what you want.

Your missing the point. Sprint isn't V or Apple. They are losing market share & $'s hand over fist. They have to be innovative and ready to capitalize on any opportunity they have. It's great that they potentially have a product more advanced than their rivals. But you have capitalize on that before the competition has time to react. What benefits did they gain by announcing the EVO at CTIA? Short term buzz and they held off the defection of some customers for a short while. In the macro view they have limited themselves on the potential upside in the release of the EVO. That has lost opportunity written all over it and the potential ramifications could be detrimental to the company.

I can tell you that the Evo forum here sure picked up big time, after CTIA. I can also tell you that Evo started showing up all over the place in other web blogs and tech rags. So, they are getting lots of free marketing mileage right now. How many folks here on the Evo forum have left for the Incredible? A couple have speculated, but I think maybe only 1 or 2 actually got one.

Sprint is going to make a comeback. Just watch and see.

Also, do we think we all understand the market better than Sprint, Verizon and Apple? We dabble in research on this topic, but they pay teams of top marketing folks a ton of money to get this right. Doesn't mean they wil, but I certainly feel they are more qualified than us to make a decision on release dates.

Besides, don't we have an Evo insider on here that has repeatedly said the phone is still in testing? Please oh smart phone gods, don't let Sprint ship the Evo until it is ready for prime time.

If anyone followed the Incredible thread, they went down a rabbit hole on release dates and folks kept getting more and more worked up over it. Rumors started about early release dates and everyone started working themselves into believing it was meant to be. Then they got mad at Verizon for letting them down.

Why is anyone slinging mud at Sprint? They made a nice early announcement at CTIA, which is what the Verizon/Incredible fans wanted but did not get. +1 for Sprint, right?

Then they showed it off as a working phone at CTIA. +2 for Sprint.

Then they give us a target release of Summer 2010. +3 for Sprint!

What did Verizon give the Incredible lovers? Nada.

If Sprint has a specific schedule/timeline for completing the phone and releasing it in the Summer, would you rather they never told us about it at all until right before release, or tell us like they did at CTIA?

In my very humble opinion (yeah, go ahead and chuckle ;)), I think Sprint has performed admirably and has not done a single thing to merit any bad marks on this Evo release.

First time smartphone owners for you AND your wife? Ooh...be prepared to want an upgrade every year from now on!...LOL. My first smartphone (Samsung i500, well, I think that was the number) was VERY limited and ran on the basic Palm OS. It was such a dramatic change from having a "regular" phone that I couldn't see myself going back. And to make it worse, I could receive text messages, but couldn't send. I didn't have internet connectivity or email connectivity. It was an even bigger jump, when I upgraded to the Mogul and the Touch Pro a year after that!

This will actually be my first full touchscreen phone without a qwerty keyboard and I was actually quite hesitant about it at first. The more information that I've found over the past month has completely convinced me that it's the perfect phone for me to make the switch! Especially because of the Android OS! You and your wife are both making a great choice for your first. Just don't get settled in "too" much because I'm sure there'll be another in a year's time. What's great, having a smartphone, is you'll never, ever have to worry about having to manually update contacts ever again!

I agree! I hope people take note into this.

Just because they lost fewer customers doesn't mean they've corrected the situation. The pool of customers is smaller comparatively speaking. You have to look at it on a percentage basis, which I have not. I'm not sure what the seasonality is for the celluar business. Also, if there was decline in migration what role did the economy play in that, since Sprint has cheaper plans.

They almost lost me....big time....first when the Droid released....and then when the N1, Desire, and now Incredible came to the picture. Now I'm firmly in the EVO 4G camp...snatched from the jaws of buying an Incredible. I mean....I was all about that phone...big time. I may not be typical....but I think I represent a certain number of people...give us an awesome phone...affordable plans....and decent customer service...and we'll stay. This phone is probably gonna kick butt. One thought that pops into my head....what if....on May 12th there are stellar reviews....perhaps new information showing the movie capability of this phone? That right then and there is a game changer. While there might not be a huge pool of potential customers...I think this will completely stop the blood loss at Sprint...and start a trend into positive growth. Once this happens...new phones....continued WiMax deployment...etc...by December they could be kicking everyone else off the stage.

So...they have to start somewhere...and I want to ride this wave. I want to give them a chance to move into the lead....and be the provider of choice. People are fickle...even the Verizon fanboys will jump ship with good review....awesome phones...and cheaper plans. The EVO 4G is a big investment by Sprint....my hunch is that they do indeed have a lot riding on this...and I think that I'm willing to stay with them a few more years to find out. Yeah baby!

Good reply. I still think Sprint has over played their hand with the early announcement. In doing so they have significantly limited the potential upside. That is no no in the business world. Plus I'm really p.o.'d that I will have to return my Incredible in a couple of weeks and go back to a craptastic motorola until the EVO is released. Stupid blackberry couldn't make another couple of months.

I think Sprint did great with showing it at CTIA as well, I, and many other people were waiting for any type of info on the phone for weeks prior to it being officially announced, so it was a relief when the device actually came out to be real.

I'd personally been googling around since January for any rumblings of any further Android phones coming from Sprint. The Hero didn't quite appeal to me, and after playing around with the Moment for a while, I really disliked the build quality.

When Sprint announced the device at CTIA, not only did it get a huge buzz (which I think it has kept for the most part), but it also gave pause to people who might have otherwise jumped ship to Verizon for the Incredible.

Although I would never go back to Verizon, I can almost guarantee you that a large portion of people would have jumped ship to VZ for the Incredible if the EVO had not been announced.

The wait still sucks, but now it has substance. It's no longer a rumor, and despite how far away it may be, it's definitely coming!

nobody else can touch Sprint's $99 Unlimited Everything plan. it's by far the best value in the wireless space. add 4G and the Premier perks to the mix and it's a no brainer.

however - i'm still angry and bitter that i am still waiting for a flagship 2010 device while Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile already have theirs in hand.

Found this article talking about accessories

Every User's Dream - HTC EVO 4G Mobile Phone Accessories

This is what intrigued me the most in that article:
Wireless extenders and amplifiers - Having low signal problem? Facing poor sound quality in calls? With HTC 4G wireless extenders and amplifiers, user can now experience the high quality clear voice and high band of signals.

What the heck is that? I don't remember that ever being talked about anywhere.

She's one of the richest women in television. I'm actually surprised it took so long for them to get one in her hands!...LOL.

who's her audience? a bunch of fat middle aged technophobe yenta housewives???

that doesn't seem to match up with the EVO's target market.

If it's Sprint's "flagship," who better than Oprah to sell the device to people "outside" of the "target market?" Why would Sprint want to limit who they sell the phone to?
