Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Maybe it's the Motorola device that Jackson mentioned back on 4/12? Here's the post:

http://androidforums.com/555972-post2565.html

There will always be the rumbling on a newer device, but when the rumors are for dates soo close.......

The point of my post was to really say. Now that we are waiting with no release date, no pricing, other companies are going to sneak in a introduce new devices that although they don't have 4G (which I live in San Diego and we won't se that till next year maybe) they match every other spec for the EVO.

Sprint needs to turn the buzz meter up.

Thanks Norill and cary328is for the links for zagg and coloware . I may have to rethink my position on not getting a different color back. I like the possibilities.

As for ozcar links, i removed them in the last 2 pages as well as any off topic stuff. As of this point on, its fruitless posting anything from ozcar in this thread, you may post them in the EVO 4G Banter thread if you like and debate the usefulness of the info over there, but in here, Please no more ozcar links.

So yesterday there was a post on Engadget about the next iphone camera. One line caught my attention:

"The site says that LG has already started producing the "sophisticated cameras" at its plant in Gumi this month, with mass production supposedly set to begin in the second half of this year."

This leads me to believe that the next iphone won't release this summer but probably fall sometime. All the iphone users who's ATT contract will be up this summer (since they bough the 3g two summers ago when it first came out) will be free to switch carriers.

Maybe what is happening now with potential EVO customers going to the Incredible is ok with sprint because they're waiting to have a larger pool of potential customers when they really kick off the ad campaign. The ATT customers may be itching for a new phone and fed up with their crappy service. Sprint's plan may be to woo them over with the EVO.

If this is the case this company could go bankrupt by the end of year. I'm pretty sure that would be one worst business plans in the history of ever.

Do you think it's bad because they would be competing with the iphone or b/c they're not competing with the incredible?

What? Ok first.
Incredible can play flash.
Incredible was set for an oct-dec release, what?
You where a fan of it 1 month before it was even a rumor, what?

I am sorry, you have completely lost me.

Sprint screwed up big time. Gave everyone and idea of what to beat, 2 months before the release of the phone.

You know Apple up their processor for the release.

Now about the 4g and software. I am a wimax person. But to build a phone in which 90% of the population can not use, is well...stupid.

You can stream to qik using a standard blackberry.

Video chat with the front facing camera can easily be done at 400kbps. Which most 3g networks can do. It would suck up a lot of bandwidth. But is doable.

Wimax is simply not ready to be used as a marketing tool. Maybe this time next year, when it reaches 50% of the population. There still are local build out problems.

Evo is going to be a great camera, but to alot of people, I can understand how it will not change their minds.

Only if they live in a 4g area and want to wait forever for it.

But if you are not going to be on a 4g network in the next year, then I can see getting the incredible.

What am I going to do? Get the Evo. Verizon is not a option for me, and never well.

Before people start saying I am a sprint/wimax hater.

I am just trying to realistic.

The worst thing that can happen now is over get all excited for something that may not work out.

It is coming, and I can wait for it.

He is pointing out that this stuff is planned already. The Incredible is basically the desire with a few pumped up specs. So it's nothing new. All this stuff is planned. They don't just announce things and then push it out. This stuff is planned from the get go. This is a business they have to plan these things out ahead of time. Unless your working at the top in sprints office, I don't think many people will really get it. Sprint didn't fail anything. This stuff was thought of before we even knew of a wimax phone. You can't just simply push stuff out and bam. We have to be realistic here.

Self Praise said it just right with his post.

Verizon just waits until their release date is close then announce things, so it seems like they push things out fast when really the incredible was leaked early and if it was announced they would of been in the same waiting boat. Nobody complains about the iphone when they know a new one doesn't come until the summer of each year. My point and i think self praise was saying this stuff is pre-dated. when the evo comes out it will be the best android phone. and at the end of the day you know what phone you want so why does it matter? it's right around the corner.

i just read that Oprah was using EVO on her show today.
If that is true then I expect a mid may launch. IF they are releasing to oprah, a non tech, they would not give her a pre-production phone. They would only give her a full working finished device.

The worst thing you can do is make the phone look buggy to one of the biggest marketers on the planet.

If she truly has the evo. Then the lauch date is going to may 13-17.

If it was the evo. The prince of persia will be the launch of the phone.

Today is national no phone day for Oprah... Not sure if thats the marketing we're going for here...

No other cell phone company does this. No other. And no other company is bleeding money and customers right and left.

I highly doubt that's the one he was talking about. It sounds like that can take away some shine from the evo. that phone was leaked last year i remember. and now it's popping up again. and i personally doubt that is the next droid. the incredible was the next chapter in the droid so why knock it off ? i mean it could be, but a while back it was rumored to be the nexus 2 that moto was rumored to make for google. so i think for anyone to get excited about it now is a little silly. we don't even know what we are waiting for if you decide to wait for this. i don't think any phone this year will be on the evo's level. i think the top phones will be the evo, iphone, incredible, and maybe a couple Q4 phones. and i think the evo will be king of em all this year and some of next year to.

stuff like this shows how people jump from one thing to another and miss out. it's a point where you have to choose that one awesome device that will ride it out for close to a damn year and follow up with the number 2 of that phone or something better.

Your missing the point. Sprint isn't V or Apple. They are losing market share & $'s hand over fist. They have to be innovative and ready to capitalize on any opportunity they have. It's great that they potentially have a product more advanced than their rivals. But you have capitalize on that before the competition has time to react. What benefits did they gain by announcing the EVO at CTIA? Short term buzz and they held off the defection of some customers for a short while. In the macro view they have limited themselves on the potential upside in the release of the EVO. That has lost opportunity written all over it and the potential ramifications could be detrimental to the company.

And my point is that, there's no confirmation on which CDMA provider (Verizon or Sprint) that other device is going to. Same goes for the GSM (t-mobile or At&t). The assumption is AT&T and Verizon, but there's no confirmation of either in that link or the pics. That's why I wanted to point out the possibility that, even though the "assumption" is that one of the phones would be the Droid 2 (for Verizon's successor to the Droid), that may not necessarily be the case.

Unless it's the iPhone, there will always be "new" devices coming out from year to year that could be one-up on the current "phone to have." As of right now, there are components on the EVO that no other phone has (e.g. 2 cameras, 720p video, wireless hot spot for up to 8 devices, etc.). Yes, you're correct, there are devices that may have "similar" stats, but if you truly look at it like 4G is the EVO's only advantage, then why hold out for it, when you feel like there are or will be other devices released shortly that have comparable ammenities? That's especially if your area won't be receiving 4G for a while. No reason for you to hold out and wait for the EVO then.

Give Sprint a break. They are working like mad to correct this and are starting to see some positive results:

Sprint Nextel, the third largest US mobile network operator, managed to slow the rate of customer losses in the first quarter and recorded its first sequential increase in operating revenues for nearly three years.
However, its quarterly results

I have. Sprint as made huge improvements. See google buying sprint thread.

BUT. It also needs to stop doing what got it into this hole and stop making mistakes that cost in people and money.

I fully support sprint, but only looking at it from a non fanboy side. They have alot of work to do.

True! Comes down to being satisfied and getting the device that will hold you until the successor comes to that. I think it's good to always have a device that you will keep for about a year, at the least!

And some people think since the EVO was showed off early that other carriers can now get to make a device or something better. Yea in the coming year(s). If anything comes out almost as good or similar then it was already in progress. These carriers have roadmaps out for a year of what is supposed to drop. If something is leaked then that means it's about that time for it to be leaked. If something comes out that means it was supposed to come out around that time. So sprint or no carrier is failing. Everything is planned. People are going to catch themselves waiting and waiting and then find nothing. Have to be realistic.
