Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

If the phone is ready now and the media blitz begins on the 12th at the NYC event, why not release the phone soon after that?

There's a lot of talk going around here saying June 6th or June 13th, but May 22nd has also been rumored. I think it makes more sense than the June release, mostly because of Apple's WWDC conference taking place June 7 - 11.

Do you really think Sprint is going to release the phone in the middle of that event? I don't! If the phone is ready, May 22nd makes more sense as far as being able to capture media attention and buzz. Think about it.

Sprint may have initially been set for an early June release, but the Apple event forces their hand. We're only talking two weeks earlier than originally planned and that's ONLY 3 weeks away! That should be sufficient time (May 12 - 22) for the media to give this a good spin before the phone is released.

you know I hate to admit this as I was looking around in the sprint back room... I saw a date in may after the 12th.... I didnt get a good luck was on the other side of the room.. could be anyhting could be the nexus one release date for all I know

that sure would be awsome. But for that to happen, BB would have to start pre orders now.
I don't think BB is controlling the release date and it doesn't make any sense to release the phone in the middle of WWDC. At that time, Apple will be getting most of the media attention. We only just learned about that event and since last weekend when I was saying maybe Sprint should wait until July or August, we have learned the phone is finished, so it makes no sense to start a media blitz and not have the phone available soon after.

I have to believe Sprint is doing everything they can to get the phone out in the next few weeks.

If the N1 was going to be released by Sprint this month, I think we would have heard something about that by now.

My gut's telling me the ECO 4G will be released May 22nd. For the life of me, I can't see the phone being released during the middle of WWDC, so that means an early June release out. If the phone is ready and they're starting a media blitz on May 12th, let's release the phone!!!

didnt he say a week ago that best buy mobile heard nothing of pre-orders yet?

Talked to my buddy last night who works for Best Buy. He's well aware of the phone, but has heard nothing about a release date or pre-orders. Not like he's in the upper echelon of people who find things out first, but nonetheless: he's peered around and heard nothing.

I think that time frame would make the most sense. The EVO will dominate the media during that time.

I don't think Best Buy has much to do with it. My point was the WWDC event has forced Sprint's hand and they have to release it earlier than initially planned.

Sprint has been playing their cards pretty close to the chest, especially concerning the release date, so I highly doubt they're going to let Best Buy tip their hand. Besides that, I can't see it taking long for Best Buy to gear up.

Edit: I followed all the news on the Supersonic since the beginning of the year and there was next to noting said about the phone. Then on March 23rd, all hell broke loose and everyone was reporting on the phone. That and we had pictures, videos and specs. All out of nowhere. So again, the fact that Best Buy hasn't said anything doesn't bother me. Wait until the 12th and the media once again will be all over this.

I think Sprint actually forced Apples Hand to be quite honest.

I must say Bill, if Sprint is even remotely thinking of releasing this during the Apple event, then they are without a doubt crazy. The next iPhone will not be superior to the EVO in anyway other then the amount of mindless people who will just buy it and pay for AT&T's crappy service. I truly hope Sprint is trying their hardest to get this device to us before the end of the month.

I hope you are right on the May 22nd date!!! How long in advance do retail stores like BB need to know the in store release dates to advertise in their flyers for Sunday papers, etc?? I would think since BB is promoting this thing pretty good, they would have it in their ads the week of release date!!

I don't doubt that either and it only adds to what I'm saying about releasing the phone this month. The 22nd makes perfect sense, because the following weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a lot of people will be out of town. The 15th is too soon after the NYC event to let the media run with it before the phone goes on sale. Release the phone the weekend following Memorial Day and you're into WWDC where Apple will be getting all the coverage.

I'm still sticking with May 22nd. It's the only date that makes sense. Of course, this is based on the rumors that the phone is ready, but I think it is.

Hey everyone, sorry i have been out for the past few days. We had a tourny down in West Virginia, longest bus ride of my life gahh.

Alot of pages have been made as usual so if anything really important came up it would be awesome if someone could just leave a comment below or pm me about it. Thanks =]

As far as the appeal of this phone goes, its HUGE. Everyone is going to want this phone, even more than the moto droid. You have noo idea what kind of a media blitz is going to go down with this. I can;t really say more than that but people form the ages 5-85 will all know what the frig the HTC Evo is. And taht line outside Sprint is going to be huge, PERIOD.

Dan told me he was going to call me later, I'll update all of you if something big goes down~

Jackson

first off, hope the tourney went well. since you didn't mention you guys doing well, i fear that it didn't haha.

now, you say you can't really say more, but you're not under an NDA. so you can't say more cuz you don't know more about it and you're just speculating? don't hold out on us jacksonator! can't wait to hear what Dan has to say later!

That is what the production model will look like. No cirlces around the buttons and silver ear piece

that would be pretty cool if there were no circles around the buttons.

ajac, do you remember if the one you played with had circles around the bottom 4 buttons?

They get there flyers 3 or 4 weeks in advanced. I wouldn't be surprised if BB has flyers already in there stores for the week of May 22nd.
