Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I could be wrong about the 22nd. At this point I'm only speculating. Most of my emphasis centers around the applesauce convention June 7-11 that was just announced. I can't help but think that would be a terrible release date for the EVO since most of the media attention at that time will center around Apple - not Sprint. I have not been following the BB deal and didn't know about a May 23rd release date.

Right now, I have to believe Sprint's emphasis has to center around their flagship, the EVO 4G and that's what they need to concentrate on. May 22nd seems like the perfect release date to me, but that's just me. One thing for sure, we'll learn more from the NYC event on the 12th. Until they tell me different, I'm still sticking with May 22nd.

I've been fine with June 6th or June 13th, but now with the the applesauce convention, I think it would be a disaster to release at that time. Yes, Sprint is going to have to push a little harder, but it's possible and it's only 2 weeks earlier. May 22nd would certainly make a lot more sense if they can pull it together.
Bill, I just want to reiterate that my post was not intended to prove you wrong or anything. Like I said, I agree with all of your reasons for the 22nd to be a good date for the release, I was just wondering if the BlackBerry would make a difference or not.

I know it may not make sense and is not common, but the blackberry release should not sway EVO buyers in the least bit. I don't even feel like they should be considered as competing with each other for customers.

Blackberry is first and foremost a business phone.

You don't get a touchscreen Android phone for business. Just like you don't get a Blackberry for customization or apps.

I was only wondering because I thought (and I could very well have been mistaken) that the EVO was going to be geared towards businesses as well (though not strictly towards businesses). Being a flagship device, it would be foolish of Sprint to release a phone that isn't geared towards everyone, and having it geared towards businesses much like a BlackBerry is, would raise their sales significantly.

While I agree that the BlackBerry may not have an affect on EVO sales, I was thinking more of the other way around, that EVO sales would have a large affect on BlackBerry sales. However, for those used to a BlackBerry, they may just stick to BlackBerry and not have to deal with learning a new OS. I myself have a BlackBerry and look forward to learning how to use Android.

I do think many companies that currently have BlackBerry as their phones will look to switch to the best option available which would be the EVO, so in that way it would certainly cut into BlackBerry sales. Just my thoughts...

KCS I am with you on this one. The 28th is 200% more probable than the 22nd, however June 6th is my date.

it will be geared towards huge businesses, it will ultimeately be bigger than the black berry, you will all see haha

haha love you too Bill, if someone didn;t go against the grain once and a while than this thread would not be half the fun. Could you give me some insight where you getting the day of the 22 from? I said it was possible that it could be moved up, infact it may even me likely, but i was thinking somewhere around labor day. Maybe explaining your 22nd reasoning could help clear some things up for me?

Jackson
Nice Bromance :) AWWWW I love you guys too :)

If we are talking early release I still say May 28th. You know Prince of Persia release, Disney and Sprint in bed together, still an earlier launch to trump the iPhone. Come on the 28th is not that far off of the June 6th date that everyone likes. I keep saying on or around The Prince of Persia some say the 22nd some say not until June. I guess we will see. :)
I don't mean to argue with you, I've been getting enough of that today, but the problem with the 28th is that it's Memorial Day weekend and a lot of people are going to be out of town. Why not make it the 22nd so people can get it before they go away? That will also put a cushion in there between the release date and the applesauce convention.

Edit: Sorry to disagree again, Jackson. I see you're saying the 28th makes more sense than the 22nd, but not when you consider it's a holiday weekend. And on June 6th, the media's going to be talking about the iPhone. I don't like it, but that's the way it is. I believe most of the media outlets are run with Macs and those people love their iPhones. There's no way they'll give Sprint a chance that week and probably not the following week either. I just happen to think the 22nd is the perfect day. That will be 10 days after the NYC event and should give everyone ample time to get geared up.

My last thought of the night. We need somebody we can trust from this thread or elsewhere who can physically go to the store in Florida and verify that the Evo is there. Point blank plain and simple. Either go in as a customer and snap a cell phone shot or pull some strings. PEEEEEAAAAACCCCEEE!! :)

I for one have gone through several different types of phones in the past couple of years with ebay/craigslist and the way they have made it easy to get a new phone out of contract and sell your old one. I had the Instinct, BB Curve, Palm Pre, and currently the BB Tour. I use my berry for both business and pleasure and I for one will be all over the EVO when it drops. The push email service on the BB is a nice thing to have when you need to get emails right now but that service will be available if it isnt already for most smartphones. Theres nothing like cranking out an email on real buttons but when I had the instinct i got pretty darn good at the touch screen and I feel like the EVO will be even easier. So coming from a BB owner I would have no reservations dumping my berry for the EVO.

I hear you, but an all touch, 4.3 screen phone... I jus can't see any of the managers i work with clip that to their hip like they do the blackberries lol.

Maybe a different android device with a keyboard tho.

I don't really think that would make any difference. Jackson said it's a prototype version, and I'm inclined to believe him. While I really hope the release date will be in May, and hope that this one time (regarding release dates) Jackson is wrong (sorry buddy), as of right now, I'm going with whatever Jackson says, and if the release is still in June, I don't think the phone being in a store in Florida changes anything. Unfortunately... :(

I agree about the people being out of town, I am purely speculating that is why I say in like 10 posts on or around the 28th. Also if it does come out on the 28th I don't see why someone who is out of town could not got to a Corporate Sprint store or Best Buy and grab one. Same goes for internet orders via Sprint or B.B. and or telesales :) Believe me I would grab it on vacation if I had to, also if you want the phone I don't think a family picnic is going to stop you from swinging by the store or ordering online. Just my opinion :)

Ok I lurked a bit and want to answer this.

4g is lit up in a lot of areas. But it is not available to the public yet.. I have no Idea why.

I have seen a few places that have been lit up and not available to the public yet, I have theories on why but I an not sure..

So While I have seen a lot of place that have active signals or are lit up and go live..

I have no rhyme or reason as to why they are not available for public consumption..

I wish I knew why but I don't..

I like what's going on. It seems like Sprint and Clearwire are on a blitz right now, trying to get as many cities ready for 4g as possible. That way, for the 12th "media event", they can say "hey we just lit up 40 cities in 2 months, take that verizon!"

I understand what you're saying, but just like any new phone, it will take some getting used to, whether it's the size of the phone or the OS of it.

Not sure if this was overlooked or anything (I overlooked it at first) but eieio made some good points about this whole BlackBerry/EVO discussion.

I know, I am just curious to see if it really is on display. I know when I worked in the industry we would not put a phone on display unless we had it or it was coming in real soon. :)

A lot of people travel long distances, go camping or boating, hang at the beach, etc. A holiday weekend wouldn't be good and the 28th is too close to WWDC anyway.

I still say we should all meet up at the May 12th event haha

Are we all invited??????? I might make that hour drive. Theres a first time for everything. Never been to the city for anything other than going shopping, visiting family, or going to baseball games. I promise I'm good company :D

I think they want to send the message to Verizon and Apple equally.

I didn't feel you were going against or that you were trying to prove me wrong, Mike.

One of the problems with smartphones, including the iPhone is they don't support Exchange that the BB supports and a lot of business users need. Since the EVO 4G will support both Exchange and Microsoft Word, it will become popular with business people as well.

Haha that is something I have thought long and hard about KD. Where am I going to put this phone?? I am one of those belt clipping managers right now and I dont like keeping my phones in my pocket as they are always full with keys or things that could scratch the phone. That big piece of hardware seems too large to clip on though. Thank god for all the suit jacket pockets.

Bill believe me I hope it is the 22nd I am not implying my date is better or right. That is why I say it could be around the 28th, meaning before or after. But I have to say that saying the 28th is to close to WWDC is like saying that June 6th is too. :)

Andiron made a good point that releasing it before Memorial Day weekend would be great because then people could show it off at family gatherings and bbqs, etc. I also think if the phone was released then with some sort of Memorial Day weekend media related blitz thing, like telling how "if you are driving somewhere far for Memorial Day weekend you can use your brand new EVO for GPS (or something else travel related) on a giant screen, and have the fast 4G speeds no matter where you're heading" type of thing.

That whole paragraph made more sense before I typed it. :o

I agree Bill. Viewing spreadsheets or word documents on a bigger screen would be a dream come true!

I agree. See why I chose the 22nd?

I forget who said this and I apologize for not looking back to find out (when I get a chance I will look for it), but someone made a good point that releasing it before Memorial Day weekend would be great because then people could show it off at family gatherings and bbqs, etc.

Yeah, I forget who it was also, but someone made that point a couple of times.
