Root Anyone still using Froyo roms on a V?

I decided to clean wipe my V recently and put Harmonia 1.9 on it. Reinstalled 30 apps on it straight from Google Play, as I wanted everything to be fresh. So far, it runs fine, though I wasn't able to put some newer apps back on it.

Anyway, it seems to run as well as expected, and yep, the battery life is still as advertised. Amazing, considering that this is the same V that I bought back eons ago (circa June, 2011) + the original battery! I'm thinking of swapping phones, and using my Event as a wifi only device for a few days. The V has a better camera with autofocus, so it works well with the code scanning apps.

Anyone else tried downgrading to Froyo (esp. Harmonia 1.9) recently?

Resurrected Bumblebee is way faster.
You can usually only overclock Harmonia to 480-725 before it starts to have problems.
The best performance/battery is attained at 480-768 which the Resurrected Bumblebee is set to out of the box.
Not much of a difference in internal storage space either.
With Link2SD then Bumblebee wins in all catagories.
I try to keep a backup of Bumblebee on the sd card in case I need to use the activate app to restore/regain 3G.

Tried to keep up with bigsupersquid's KitKat. It's fine, but I got tired of dealing with the bugs (esp with the clock and alarm not working) and overheating. Great ROM otherwise, even with those issues.

Decided to load redbaron2005's StockOV 1.1, the deodexed version with the VM apps taken out (except for Activate). Runs great with rb's tweaks and picasticks kernel. And my favorite... gets a bit warm but no overheating at 600-806! Everything runs smooth, no FCs. I've got kitkat and mirage-gb-iho backed up if I change my mind, but having this rom (or Harmonia 1.9) is pretty good for me.

Why do you run the min at 600. This is bad. The min is where the CPU idles. No wonder it gets hot.
You should never go above 480 on the min.
Your going to burn the phone out at 600.
The best battery off charge times and the best all around performance are achieved at 480-768 with an interactive governor.

You're right.

However, with my use of squid's kitkat rom, I've never had any success getting the phone to cool off, unless I let it idle for a few minutes with the radios off, or turned it off completely for a while. Even when I was just checking emails, the phone would always reach near overheating stage, even with no other tasks in the multitasker list. I'm not kidding. I can't speak for anyone else, but that's been my experience. I even tried it at 600/122, and it still managed to overheat when I did light tasks... not even playing a game! I'm suspecting it's because of the stuff kitkat runs in the background to run system functions. I did try a few tweaks to alleviate the problem, but none of them worked for me. It's not fun running a phone that overheats like a lump of coal in my pocket while playing songs from PowerAmp as I wash the dishes after dinner...

I may try kitkat again when this problem is alleviated without having to use extra tweaks. Even though I use my V as a media player at home on wifi atm, I'd still like to hold on to it. I can run it at 600-806 with the StockOV 1.1 ROM without any issues. No FC's, no obscene overheating, and at least I can run Instagram on it.

For what it's worth, i've been running Harmonia froyo since I first rooted my V after buying it, 3 years ago now (?) I'm old school, very intimidated by tech stuff, lol, and just wanted something with stable performance and no need to change. Without the awesome help and handholding of the people on this forum, i'd still be on stock!

I've been very happy with froyo harmonia...but in the last year, andy has encouraged me to try mirage, and I'm tempted because I trust him. But I'm hesitant because I use link2sd (love it) and mirage requires ext4 partition and my mac computer doesn't like that, I think, haha. I am also wary of extra steps like downloading gapps, lol. It has to be super simple and basic for me.

But I am thinking of upgrading to harmonia gingerbread. I've been very happy with leslie ann's roms.

LeslieAnn's ROMs have always been great. No nonsense, and trimmed down to essentials anyone can use. I can vouch for Mrg's V ROM. I keep it backed up on my V.

I'm just amazed that KitKat even runs at all on the V! That's even newer than the OS on my LG Optimus F3! (JB 4.1.2)

You could download something like knoppix for a usb flash drive. It's a modded version of Debian Linux that is portable. It has a lot of utilities you can use to format SD cards, and the usual Linux desktop apps. Knoppix should run on Intel Macs, as long as you can boot from a usb stick or burned DVD.

Of course you are welcome to my themes and yes I've always known how much you liked them so here's 22 Theme Chooser Themes for cm7. That outta keep you supplied for a while, lol.

Btw, Mystic Blu never got posted, it was my last and I feel my best. :D

[Edit] Link has been moved to its own thread - 22 ThemePack.

Thanks gherkaul, would love to check out your themes, but the link seems to be not working?
Sorry about that Blue. I checked it just now and it's working on my end. Don't understand why it's not for you. Try again and if that doesn't work let me know and I'll try something else.

Let me make sure I don't have a sharing setting turned off on Dropbox. It would still work for me of course. Let you know.

Okay try it again. If this don't work I'll have to move it to another cloud storage. Just can't figure out why it's not working for you. Got my fingers crossed.

Okay gherkaul, just tried the link again and it works, but i guess i have to download all of them cause it's one .zip file at 178 mb?

Yes, easier that way. Glad it finally worked.

Sorry for de-railing your thread daffy.

Okay thanks, i'm sure i'll enjoy them and sorry for all the trouble you had to go threw.

@daffyducknj ... as gherk said, sorry for getting off topic here.
