Root [MetroPCS] Tethering for MPCS.F6....!!! All Roms **VIDEO for stock only** UPDATED 12-02-14

I am only talking about the method (Trevor Philips) I quoted when replying.

You could have just said, "Fiddler" [if that is the one]. There has been a lot of cross-talk going on here and it can get confusing. I would think at least one [other] person using "Fiddler" would have noticed this limitation by now?

I have the best solution to this thread... are you ready for it. The stock tether app works just fine it does exactly what it is suppose to do and all you have to do to bypass the verification check is to install the app called elixir 2 from the play store, create a status bar widget with a tethering option if you don't want a new status bar then simply create a widget for your home screen using the other elixir 2 apps on the play store. When you activate the button it wont ask metro pcs if you've paid and simply turns on the hotspot. ENJOY

I'm confused. In this thread, we discussed how the stock tethering app only worked [bypassing MetroPCS check] in conjunction with Market Unlocker [for example]? And, you still needed a User Agent [PC side] in this scenario.

Doing what I said you don't have to use the market unlocker

[Let me backup a little here...]
Using Elixir, is this widget easily found and configured once you have installed Elixir?
Or, is this something you could create with Nova Launcher Prime [for example] [which is what I use]?

Once you install it open it up then click on the status bar icon I side the app it will take you to a new screen which will let you modify the status bar for whatever you need... When I get back home I'll upload a screen shot of what it will look like.... granted I have a verizon S4 my friend has the LG F6 and I've been showing him things but the app and ending result is the same the elixir 2 app completely bypasses the Hotspot check by metro pcs.... This site says I'm a newbie but I've been on xda for years

Well, I am looking for homescreen shortcut/widget. It seems like Nova should be able to do this, if you can figure it out?

I don't use nova so I don't know.... I got the idea from another post I read on sone other forum and I can confirm that it works flawlessly

I created s widget using Nova and it does not bypass the MetroPCS check. So, Elixir must do something different or it may be that your phone is different?

It must be elixir because the LG F6 I downgraded rooted then upgraded rerooted using voodoo OTA then installed the custom recovery made a backup then installed elixir and had a working Hotspot with no issues

I can't imagine what an Elixir Widget/Shortcut is going to do differently from any other source?

The host file isn't showing up in AT even after running Wifi Tether, and no SSID broadcast

I have the same issue, I turned on Wifi Tether after doing all the instructions from the first post and my computer and laptops don't pick up the signal nor does hostapad show up in the Task Killer of Android Tuner :/

Update: I was actually able to get the tether up and running but I have sluggish internet speeds, no network/internet access. YUCK

If the method in the first post won't work for you you might consider using foxfi, pdanet+, or clockworkmod tether. You will have to pay a few bucks for the app but you won't have to mess with permissions or kill tasks on your f6. On the laptop/desktop side you just need to what Trevor said and use Fiddler with the user agent set to custom and this works for Internet Explorer, Chrome, and maybe other browsers too. I haven't been redirected to the upsell page since I started using this method. (I have never tried clockworkmod tether I've just read that it works for this. I have used both foxfi and pdanet+ for this and they both work great. Just checked the play store and clockworkmod tether is USB only. Foxfi and pdanet+ support WiFi, Bluetooth, and USB tethering.)

Thanks, maybe its not working because of the usb wifi dongle, but who knows as long as I can use it with my laptop it is better than nothing. Thanks for your suggestions.

If you don't want to buy a paid app for tethering there is also the method Dambuzbee described earlier on this thread. You can download elixer 2 which allows you to create toggles on your status bar for the stock mobile Hotspot app(among other things.) You can also make home screen widget's for the mobile Hotspot if you download elixer 2 widgets. Both apps are on Google play. When you use the widget it turns on the mobile Hotspot and bypasses the check to see if you're paying for tethering the same way WiFi Tether or foxfi would. Like all other methods described here it requires a user agent or Fiddler. Otherwise you will get blocked from certain websites (this varies depending on what browser you are using.)

Does anyone know why tethering with this phone/metropcs has to be so complicated? When I was using my Moto Photon 4g with Sprint just a couple of months ago all I had to do was root my phone and install the app in the op and I could Tether with my computer and visit any site, or play on Xbox live without any further tinkering

yes but this is advance sh**%$# u have ti turn wifi toggle on notification whit out wifi-tether go to A.T and u gonna find ***/system/bin/dhcpcd ** same as hotsapd and kill it. try to long press in red X n remove the execute or tap on it.. what i did was that i went to system/ bin in my root xplorer and move the dhcpcd to a backup folder in my sdCard restarted the phone and walllaaa ... try firt the kill option and if it doesn't wrk try the move to bak-up
I tried this for my xbox360 but didn't have any luck. I couldn't find system/bin/dhcpcd in Android Tuner so I moved it to my SD card. What has me really confused is that when I went to put it back it had already moved itself back to its original location?

i've been wondering the same thing, before just install wireless tether for root users and go; seems so convoluted based on Metro check now; think i'll just go w/ one of the paid apps and i assume the fiddler user agent pc side is to keep Metro from charging me for tether

i see 'user agent' posted like a gazillion times in this thread w/o no mention of the actual user agent used. i'm just going to use the chrome extension, which agent works best... android 2.3?
