Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Unbrick VM/Sprint F3

Use the VM720 DLL if you have a Virgin Mobile phone. Let me know if this fixes previous errors :)
I just reset my phone yesterday using LS720ZV6_03.bin and the .dll you had up there before. Is there any reason to think I might have a quirky system now? Or is everything cool as long as the flashing process went smoothly?

A bad download or flash is always possible. If it didn't go right I you will most likely notice pretty quick.

If everything worked OK then yes you should be good to go with out of the box stock.

i tried putting my phone on download mode but the lg boot screen keeps coming on

Turn the phone off, take the battery out, put the battery back in. hold down both the volume down and the volume up buttons at the same time while you plug in the USB cable. That should put you in download mode.

To add to guidance. Do not use phone power button when plugging in USB cable.

I've read everything over and over... Please help... lol Flash went great... However my son's VM phone now thinks it's a sprint phone... How do I get it back to VM? I am not sure what he did to get it stuck in a loop he assures me he didn't try rooting but I am calling BS...

To restore 3G/4G Data (To get to VirginMobile)
Go to Settings >
> System Updates
>> Update PRL
>> Update Profile
If there is an issue wile performing an update just reboot and try again where you left off.

nothing happens when I choose system updates. Or any of the others... I even tried connecting it to wifi and still nada..

You cannot be connected to wifi, you have to be on STRONG data network and restart a few times if it still does not work (that has happened to me before) try the unbricking procedure again.

Nice pics should be here! Post #7.
As a noob, not sure if post #7 will show up (I don't have permissions to post links or images, and post 7 has images...).

My kid bricked his VM720 (LS720).

I followed the instructions here for unbricking, and got through it once, but it didn't take. It got to the READY! part, then the upgrade failed. It is stuck in the LG logo screen.

So, I tried again, from the beginning, but every time I try, I get the "Failed Previous Load()" popup (like in post #7's 2nd image), and I can go no further.

Lil' help?
You guys are awesome!

Thanks!

Try using another PC or remove all the drivers and LGflash and start from scratch again

Different PC, still no-go. I don't get to "85% and it reboots". It runs for 31 seconds with an error, and a red banner.

I turned on the log this time around:

[23:11:58] [WARNING 4] Stream download error : 14(rsp err_code
[23:11:58] Fail to write Partition PrimaryGPT, 0th Sector.

Almost looks like its trying to flash to wrong partitions - wrong pit?

Are you using the

LGVM720_20130529_LGFLASHv151.dll
or
LGLS720_20130509_LGFLASHv151.dll

?

My wife's is a Virgin Mobile LS720 - I used the "LGVM720_20130529_LGFLASHv151.dll" and it worked flawlessly. What is kinda confusing, but explained around this thread is:

After Step 17 from the instructions here: (Posted in OP)
LG Flash Tool - Free - no need B2B User/Pass - GSM-Forum

npolite cleared it up for me:

It will prepare and maybe give a milky way error (seriously) ignore it until it says finished, or ready.

LGVM version.

Put your F3 in download mode:
While powered off, hold volume up + volume down + power
Connect a trustworthy USB cable
Open up LG Flash Tool
Tick "Select Manual Mode"
The DLL selected is called "blah....blahLGFLASHv15.dll", find where you extracted that to
Select Add, choose the tot file you downloaded.
Press ok.
Read instructions here on how to flash (Just change it to COM Port 41, not 1): LG Flash Tool - Free - no need B2B User/Pass - GSM-Forum

OK, so I have not been able to begin this process because I cannnot find a tot file anywhere, and a couple of links found for tot files using a google search did not look to be for the same version as the dll file.

Where can I get compatible tot file?
trying to use LGLS720_20130509_LGFLASHv151.dll with LG Flash tool.

I bought the device from a craigslist ad and I plan to be using it without carrier, just using a MagicJack app for calling when WiFi available. While I had the device nearly perfect I mistakenly clicked OK on a "system update ready for install" which was bugging me with notifications too much. Clicking OK to the notification just sent the phone into clockwork mod recovery and when that was done I now have the problems that I no longer get ANY notifications, I have no lock screen, and the home button will only wake up the screen from sleep.

I'm hoping to fix these issues by flashing the phone (which is not completely bricked)

Help appreciated greatly.

Yes, the tot reference is wrong. The flash tool uses a .bin file which is at the firmware link in the OP. You'll want the bottom entry (zv7) on the list of downloads. Then follow the rest of the guide.

gherkaul, thanks for the timely advice, I had already downloaded that file, but when I saw tot file in the instructions I thought I had to find one with tot extension rather than bin.
I'll try it now (fingers crossed).

UPDATE: it worked perfectly, except that I had to do it twice, the first time I mistakenly used the v6 bin which the phone originally had (I was still prompted for system update) so I had to do it again with the v7 bin.

I'm now rooting and resetting all my apps and preferences.
Thanks

Glad to hear you got it working. Don't forget to install the cwm touch recovery and make a nandroid backup next.

I'm getting the same, on two different computers (Win7 Laptop and WinXP Desktop), tried two different known good usb cables, tried changing com ports and usb ports. About to give up. Was going to buy a new phone in a few weeks anyway because I kinda saw this coming, just didn't want to be without a phone for that time :-(
