Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Unbrick VM/Sprint F3

I'm getting the same, on two different computers (Win7 Laptop and WinXP Desktop), tried two different known good usb cables, tried changing com ports and usb ports. About to give up. Was going to buy a new phone in a few weeks anyway because I kinda saw this coming, just didn't want to be without a phone for that time :-(

I don't have a suggested fix. Sorry. Could you indicate where your phone was made. It should not matter but I've seen similar comments for phones from China. Think there are 2 plants, China and Korea.
To check, pull battery and it will be on sticker.
My model is from Korea.

Mine was made in Korea too.
Did you try both dll files from the download link? There's the LS version and a VM version. If I remember correctly it the first two downloads from the link. Put the one you don't have in the lg flash tool folder and change the one you're using now, in the lg flash tool settings, to the new one. Hope that's not to confusing.

I wish it were that easy. :-( After a lot of fiddling around I was able to get it into CWM finally. But I can't do anything from there.

Actually it is that easy. :) ClockWorkMod recovery has nothing to do with flashing firmware using the LG Flash Tool. Other then making a backup before flashing anything to your phone, there is no reason to be in recovery mode (hint: make a backup now). I'm not saying the dll swap will work for sure with your device but it's whether a shot. So once again there are two different dll files, one is for Sprint and the other is Virgin Mobile. They are in the dl link (LG F3 Firmware and DLL), first two files. Download and extact them both and place them in the folder where the LG Flash Tool exe file is located on your PC. When you open the flash tool change the dll file to the one you're not using now and see if you get errors again. If you are successful then you can re-root, install the cwm recovery and restore your data folder with the advanced restore option. Your phone should be updated and all your stuff is back too. If failure again...well then I'm not sure what can be done. Let's just hope it fixes the error issues. ;)

What I meant was I wish that fixed it that easy. ;-)

This one is really kicking me. LOL For a minute there it looked like it was restoring my last backup from my sd card but then it freaked out and said it couldn't mount system and failed. I wouldn't be so aggravated if it were something I did (like it usually is LOL). In this case, I'm sitting here, watching Monk and the thing reboots itself, and everything starts force closing, so I tried rebooting it again and boom. Brick. At 26 hours in I was thrilled to have something other than the LG logo and Download mode (meaning CWM).

Oooh, okay I got it now. Hmmm...that's a horse of a different color. So which recovery do you have installed, 6.0.4.8 or 6.0.4.4?

Different PC, still no-go. I don't get to "85% and it reboots". It runs for 31 seconds with an error, and a red banner.

I turned on the log this time around:

I flashed my Virgin Mobile LG Optimus F3 phone using the LG Flash Tool 1.8.1, the LGVM720_20130529_LGFLASHv151_Download DLL, and both LS720ZV6_03 and LS720ZV7_05 bin and now the phone resets every time I restart it. The flash finishes smoothly with both BIN's and I'm able to set everything up but if I shut down or restart the phone when it boots up it resets to stock automatically and wipes out everything. Any tips are much appreciated :-)

If you're like me and spend 5 hours trying to figure out exactly how the heck any of the stuff that sammyz or npolite worked and need a step by step tutorial, please check this link out:

optimus-f3(dot)wikispaces(dot)com/unbrick

Even a dummy like me figured it out. The only thing that might be necessary is to download the LS720ZV7_05.zip bin file from here: oudhitsquad(dot)com/android/?dir=LGE/Firmware/LS720.

Anyways, thanks for all the help even though it was a very frustrating and scary experience. Hopefully I don't experience any hitches after this. Good luck everyone!

I have a LG Optimus F3 (virgin mobile) phone that was giving the "process android.phone. com" error along with random camera fails and additional process failures. I just successfully managed to get pats the process phone error and to an actual semi usable phone. I havent and wont activate it to the point of using it on the VM network to make phone calls but at least it boots up to a usable desktop with apps etc. Maybe I'll just it for a glorified MP3 player.... I did this by using in conjunction with each other all the following information and sights:
optimus-f3(DOT)wikispaces(DOT)com/unbrick
jcooper8 Post #80 here at Android Forums
and the GSM hostings forum on the Flashtool instructions.
I did get the Korea/China menu when I first attempted but as was mentioned, when its installed correctly it didnt ask the second time around.
I am only sad because now I bought a replacement phone just yesterday (this phone is now $40 at a local store here). But I can confirm also that the instructions work!
SO thanks to everyone involved in this sammyz and jcooper8

Thanks everyone for this great thread. I'm trying to fix my wife's LG Optimus F3 (made in Korea, Virgin Mobile version). She shut it down last night and this morning the phone on restart just got stuck at the LG logo. After a very long time, it finally made the startup sound but then was stuck on the Virgin Mobile logo for a very long time, basically failing to boot. The phone has never been rooted but I'm not sure if she ever did any kind of OTA software update. I could not get to recovery (the only thing that would happen would be the dead Android and then back to the LG logo) and never could get to the hardware reset screen. So I finally ended up here with the flash tool. I've had a similar issue to leelonng2012 and G1212 with the same error after about 30 seconds and at 3%, with the same "[WARNING 4] Stream download error : 14(rsp err_code" in the log. Maybe the internal ROM is borked somehow?

I'm doing this on a Win64Pro desktop and I've tried, different versions of the Flash tool, different .bin files, different USB cables, different USB ports and different COM ports too. I'm a rooted Nexus 4 owner and relatively experienced third-party ROM user but this one I think is beyond me. I made sure to use the VM version of the DLL too. This piece of crap just passed the one year warranty, too. I guess it is time for a new phone.

Which brings me to a question for SloWiFi, since I am also in Oregon:

I am only sad because now I bought a replacement phone just yesterday (this phone is now $40 at a local store here).
Which store?!

Thanks again everyone, very helpful thread.

My wife's rooted Optimus F3 became unstable this week, and then spontaneously soft-bricked.

I'm having this exact problem when trying to restore it. It appears that no one has found a solution. But if anyone has, I'd certainly like to know, before I tell her she has to get a new phone.

Anyone?

There is no solution, you restored your phone successfully. Everyone gets that same error when they run that program. It finishes somewhere around 85% and reboots your phone. You can unplug your phone once it fully boots to android. Otherwise it will time out and you get that error.

Its just a time out error, That's all

No, unfortunately, it goes to only 3%, then reports "Download FAIL!!". So the reflash hasn't completed, and the phone won't reboot.

No, it hangs at the "LG" spash screen.

I can boot CWMT, but can't restore from the backups I made. It reports that it can't mount /system. Same thing when I use CWMT to install a ROM from a zip file.

I've tried wiping data in CWMT, and reformatting the system and data partitions. Those actions also fail.

So I seem to be stuck.

Are you on a virgin mobile phone?

Unfortunately The LG flash tool doesn't work for everybody. It looks like it didn't work for you. You may have to get help from LG

Thanks for the replies. The phone is out of warranty. My wife got it when the F3 first hit the market.

So LG is probably not going to help. We'll stall a bit to see if anyone else here can offer a solution, but it looks like she's going to have to buy a new phone.
