Coming from iPhone 5s to LG G3

Being completely honest if someone was coming from an IPhone I wouldn't recommend the G3 as their first Android phone. As someone mentioned earlier I think, there are smoother better performing and more software refined Android phones out there (not mentioning which in case I get accused of flaming or something)

I have a g3, but I'd recommend the m8 to a convert every day of the week, and I love my g3..

If you switch from iPhone to android make sure to remove your # from icloud or turn your imessages off so you receive SMS from iPhone users.

You could set different coloured LED blinks for different notifications (how's the LED flasher working out on iPhone), with regards to custom vibrate patterns I've been able to do that for ages, just never bothered...

Nobody's trolling. What good's a blinking LED in my jeans pocket? Show me a screenshot with the LG G3 setting custom text tones and I'll bow to your prowess. And no, apps don't count.

Why the hell not? You insist that the native apps do everything you want them to? That's ridiculous. The whole point of Android is choice. And Hangouts is as close to native as it gets, being a Google core app.

1, you need to look up the definition of trolling

2, cos the mighty I phone dunt have LED blinkers it's obviously a rubbish feature... Until it does if course, then they invented it..

3, how do I upload an image, in contacts you Can select individual ringtones and LED colours.. Do i have to use photobucket or summat Similar.
Can any g3 owners confirm this is true, only ifans trolling tell fibs on an android forum and think they will get away with it... Jeez..

Hang on.. Whats a text tone? Do you mean ring tone? Or vibrate pattern? Uve lost me there chief.. Is it the famous iPhone auto correct going loopy again lol

Maybe the OP has made his/ her decision by now. But I came from the iOS ecosystem and my top loves and hates are noted below for what it's worth, in case someone else stumbles upon this thread.

NB: if any of the Android boffins here see a one of my quibbles below and there is a genuinely convenient fix, please don't be afraid to speak up, both to correct my whining complaint and so I can go implement it ;)

1) What I'm missing most is basically all the stuff you can see without unlocking the phone:

a) I can't get the G3 to show me a preview of a text, missed call or FB comment without unlocking it. On the iphone you at least get a preview on your lockscreen when the notification arrives - you get the gist of the comment, or a little image preview. The G3 just tells me I have a msg or I missed a call.

b) You could also preview your upcoming day with a swipe on the iPhone lock screen and it would summarise your coming day; to get the same on the G3 I'd have to manually set the calendar and weather widgets to show on the lock screen. Same end result, more stuffing around with the G3.

EDIT: this is not really a big deal. I'm flicking my lock screen across and getting weather and calendar (agenda) info easily, and the agenda widget shows me a number of days forward, which the iPhone did not.

c) Lastly, I make a lot of business calls from the car and I need to do so safely; with iphone i could make a voice-dialled call with a press and hold on the home button followed by "call John Smith" via mic, headset or bluetooth. On the G3, despite the usefulness of voice commands and Google Now, my searches so far indicate there is no convenient way to voice dial a contact while the phone remains locked. I installed Commandr and it hasn't helped much. I don't really want to look away from the road to unlock my phone and launch the appropriate app.

EDIT: finally figured out how to use Voice Mate and followed nickdalzell's advice below. Works well. Didn't realize I had to agree to LG's TOU before being able to use it http://www.lg.com/us/support/product-help/doc-1405470303897-en-LGEAI

2) If you have a lot of DRM songs in your iTunes music, it will be a bit of a pain in the butt. The DRM songs won't come across to your Android device. But, screw Apple for that anyway and there are ways to "treat" your iTunes database.

I didn't have a big issue with all the things new apps ask to access in Android; iOS did the same thing, they just didn't make such a big deal of it (that's why everyone freaked out about Facebook Messenger - iPhone users got a brief, subdued request for access, and Android users got a candid, extensive and slightly scary request for access). Similarly, I'd normally find myself enabling more and more location services for iphone as I got more and more useful apps, so I don't mind that. I just draw the line at having location metadata in my photos and it looks like the G3 has a check box for that in Settings.

I DON'T miss having to f@rt around in iTunes to make custom ringtones from the music in there; that was painful. There seem to be many Android apps allowing you to easily cut sections from songs for your ringtones. I have found adding an individual ringtone to a contact pretty straightforward, although there are one or two contacts for which the option is missing - hopefully will figure out why.

Other than that, the G3 is a gorgeous phone, feels good, looks good, runs mostly smoothly, very pretty display and battery life mostly fine, unless you use it obsessively and don't have an app killer installed.

My two cents :p

if you want voice dialing from the lock screen just turn voice mate on on the lock screen. then you can easily double-tap and say 'call John Smith' and it works just like an iPhone.

Android permissions are like Windows User Account Control pop-ups. they can be ignored or dismissed 90% of the time. it's NOT that important. it's not like installing an app from Google Play or whatever app market you use will trigger an ICBM launch or anything.
