Introducing the Virgin Mobile LG Optimus F3 Native Wi-Fi Hotspot Hack!
This mod bypasses Virgin Mobile's block on the native Wi-Fi hotspot. It is a functional alternative to the WiFi NetMgr LG F3 app. It should work with both 3g and 4g.
This mod is based on the hotspot hack for the LG G2 developed by xda member Metalboy94 (thread here), so be sure to head on over there and drop him a big thanks.
Requirements:
- A rooted device
- ClockworkMod Touch recovery 6.0.4.8 (It may work with 2nd-Init but I have no way to test this)
- Busybox (for the flashable zip)
Deodexed stock ZV6 or ZV7 Rom (I am currently researching how to create an odexed version. I can also make de/odexed versions for the ZV5 Rom if someone were to upload the system/framework/services.jar from those roms.
Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for anything that may happen to your device as a result of applying this mod including but not limited to hard or soft bricking, performance loss, or anything else. (But it should work just fine.)
Instructions:
Power off your phone. Boot into recovery by holding the volume down and power keys until you see the text telling you to release them. Wipe cache and dalvik cache, then tap Install zip. Choose internal or external, whichever you downloaded the zip to and confirm. Go back and tap reboot. You're done!
Alternatively, you can use your root file explorer app (ES File Explorer or Root Explorer for example) to mount the system partition as read/write and copy/paste the services.jar file extracted from the zip to the /system/framework folder, overwriting the original and setting the file's permissions to rw- r-- r--. Don't forget to remount the system partition as read only when you're done. Reboot the phone to complete installation.
To turn on the hotspot go to System settings > More... Portable Wi-Fi hotspot and check the box. You can also tap Set up Wi-Fi hotspot if you want to change the Network SSID, security type, password, SSID visibility and Max users.
Note: You will see the Android is upgrading... Optimizing apps dialog on first boot after you flash. Be patient and let it finish.
The goods:
Download ZV6 version here.
Download ZV7 version here.
Enjoy!
