MarkyMark, This is getting old..I'm not bashing you at all but I think all of us are fighting a loosing battle....lol:(

1.6...such a laugh! All I can say is that you shouldn't believe anything except an official release on the Verizon site or a pop-up on your screen that says it's ready for a system upgrade. The VZ reps aren't given info on the release and many times, they may be telling you what they think they know but they are getting a phone confused or whatever. Other times, they flat out have no clue and make up BS. I have nothing against the CSR's and don't think that they are stupid. They just aren't told any more than they need to know and usually that's no more than we know.
 
No you aren't, but you just need to be patient. There was just a new leak of Android 2.1 for the Eris released a few days ago. Like it was said in another thread, where exactly do you think these leaks are coming from? Verizon. They wouldn't be putting the time into beta-testing each leaked OS if they weren't serious about releasing it.

Also, they're probably a version or two ahead of the leaks we're receiving. An OS update is on the horizon. How far off is the question, but it's coming.

You may be correct...I have the newest leak 2.1 v3, it seems to work pretty well except not syncing with my calender and some bluetooth issues...I'm sure when it gets here all the bitching will stop...lol

I think what TDianna is referring to with "losing battle" is the endless calls to reps of both HTC and VZW...

In other words, no one knows anything and it will happen when it happens.

I don't think anyone can dispute that the proverbial *they* is working on this firmware.

Oh no! We WISH the bitching would stop. People on 2.1 betas can't bitch too much because they are on unofficial, unsanctioned OS'es. When the official hits and it still has bugs, this place will be full of negativity. People really are expecting miracles and it just ain't gonna happen.
 
well, we're off the phone with HTC, htc rep says it is in no way up to them when the update gets pushed, it is up to verizon, but it is available if and when they want to push it. so we called verizon back, verizon wouldnt say anything except to tell us that the in-store reps have no business saying anything about the updates until they've been pushed. she did say that it could be pushed today and she couldnt tell us anything.
 
Why do people still insist on calling HTC and Verizon asking about the Eris OTA? For the past 7 months people have been calling and have been told the exact same thing every time.

It amazes me that people still call these people.

Can we please please please get a sticky that asks people to stop posting about their experiences calling HTC and VZW about the OTA update?

I agree totally with AwesomeIT. VZW/HTC (But primarily Verizon) have been stringing us along for months. Reminds me of someone in an abusive domestic relationship "But, this time i'm gonna change! I PROMISE!". Personally, I think Verizon will string us along until our contracts are up and people start getting newer phones with 2.1 or 2.2 loaded...

I agree on the frustration with people calling but PLEASE don't request that any more stickies with restrictions be posted. We are approaching the level of the Chinese government as it is!
 
i've been lurking for a while, guess i'm making this my first post.

I have to agree with AwesomeIT. Enough is enough, everyone who calls either gets the same or similiar response.

From my experience working at the Sprint Call Center a couple of years ago, the CSR's in Customer Server and at the Stores DO NOT KNOW when a phone update will get released. They get their info the same as we do, hearsay, rumor mills, etc. They will know when verizon announces it to them, which will probably be the same time they announce it to their customers.

And also give HTC a break, it's up to Verizon, not HTC, if a release will hit the phone or not. As far as I see the update WILL happen, until Verizon says different (and the leaks prove it is still being tested and tweaked) The only thing Verizon themselves screwed up on is announcing an update in Q1 and allowing that to pass without a release or at least an update on progress. Their follow-through failed. I DO hope they are training their CSRs NOT to succumb to rumors and respond based on fact. there my 2 cents!

I ALMOST agree 100%, it would almost be bearable if they were all told the "exact same thing"...the thing that makes me insane is that they are all told something completely contradictory yet people keep calling no matter how many times others say *don't bother*.

"it's coming soon", "There is no update for the Eris", "The update already happened", "The update is available", "What update?", "Its coming soon", "Yeah that rolled out a few weeks ago (Moto Droid)", "Oh the Eris is replaced by the Incredible so no update", etc, etc, etc....

I am with you though, these posts need to stop if for any other reason than peoples sanity. :D
 
I went to the VZW store last November and talked to a couple different sales reps. They knew absolutely nothing about the update. Come to think of it, neither did I.

Yesterday a Verizon rep told me that the official OTA update for HTC Eris will start May 15, by the end of the month everyone should have it. Wait and see....

As everyone knows that follows my posts, I've been sipping tea and waiting for the OTA like Frisco. The recent leaks are very tempting; however this is my only phone (no landline) & I need the part to function. The whole reason I bought the Eris is because of the design and the "iphone" like (but better) features. The OTA was just a bonus possibility.

My bday is at the end of the month...If VZW cares to give me a present...that would be cool. If not, no water off my back.

Now, has any one tried the blueberry pomegranate green tea? It's really good.

The rep couldnt find anything in her notes that would explain my problem and so she said she would check some of the forums. I asked her which forum she was going to check, she said Android Forums, its the best on the next ... Kudos to the staff here! I told her I was already a member, and could not find the answer. Turns out I had to do a factory re-set, bummer.

So while waiting for the phone to finish the factory re-set, I asked about 2.1 ... she said Verizon is very closed-lipped with them and I would probably hear about it on this site before they are even told. She said that any of the managers or staff at any of the stores that give you a date are reading it from the same forums we look at. Basically a manager tells someone a date, that someone is a member here and posts it, another manager from a different stope reads it here and tells someone else. She said it will come, but she doesnt know when and anyone claiming they know is full of it.

I like it when I get reps that actually know what they are talking about. Did you per chance get her name and what call center she is from? My wife works in one I would be happy to send her name up the chain for a kudos from her sup.

Dont remember her name ... but she heard my son say "Go Twins" and thought he said "Go Pens", she mentioned that she was a few miles north of Pittsburgh.

I wonder if there is a way to find out who you spoke to last.

We will get the update when we get it or if we get it.

Hell in another 6-9 months I will be ready to upgrade to another Android phone on the new every 2 plan anyways.

I think the Eris is a pretty kick butt phone as it sits.

The mods have stated time and time again that speculation threads are ok and have a little latitude for topic drift. If you don't agree with the content, you are free to navigate to another thread, and as I'm sure this thread isn't taking up space on your own personal server, then I'm sure the amount of space that is wasted due to this thread is of no consequence to you. I used to feel the same way you did about threads that I deemed useless, but when its all said and done, you can choose to not read them.

And yes tomlin the is a way to find out who you talked to last. Everytime you call in the rep you spoke with is supposed to notate your account as to why you called in and what the solution was. That notation is stamped with the time/date/and the name of the person who notated the account.

For all those saying 2.1 will never officially reach the Eris,, while on the phone with Verizon customer service getting my refurbished sent in place, an HTC rep. asked the Verizon Tech if they have started to roll out the update yet.......
