Root Root and CWM Recovery for ZTE Concord 2

Thank you very much for all your hard work hroark13. Your rooting method worked like a charm on the first run. I'm still trying to work out how to uninstall the bloatware for MetroPCS because it serves no purpose what so ever... I'm sure I will eventually find out how to remove it. I'll just need to keep digging through here because I'm sure someone has figured it out. Probably you or someone following your thread... my guess would be that they were kind enough to post it here to help out noobs like me. I'll keep looking and thank you again for enabling me to utilize the apps that improve my phone's performance. You're a life saver because sometimes I really wanna brick my phone for fouling up and misbehaving. Now, that's not gonna be a problem because I'm literally looking the apps as I type this that will give me more control of the CPUs, provide a swap link for the RAM, expand the internal storage to the SD card, and reduce the power draw from the CPUs when the screen is off.

you should find the info to remove bloat apps in this thread, if you have any questions feel free to ask

Hi guys, having an issue and need help please. When I run the batch file, it runs quickly, closes and does nothing. The batch file is moved to desktop with no spaces in the name

just wanted to say i signed up to say thank you!!! after countless searches and multiple sites. no one seemed to know what was going on with this phone and how to root it. i found this site. and tried your method. not only did it work but im able to do what i needed, which was simply move the apps from onboard storage to expansion (16gb SD) a lil background on me. ive rooted and jailbroken alot of devices from iphones to nexus tablets to Wiis to Sony PSPs. so i bought this phone tonight at walmart. my windows phone took a crap on me (nokia lumia 521) this one was cheap so i snagged it at wally world for $50. came home set it up and realized all apps store to internal and you cannot move to external. so my phone filled up quite fast. i followed step by step and in literally minutes my phone was rooted. all apps (non factory) are currently on my SD external and not the low 2gb internal. thank you so much.

the problem is you folder names have spaces in them

move the folder to the root of c: and take spaces out of folder name

Took me a day to figure out i didn't have my folder at the root of the drive lol after that root went perfectly. Thank you hroark and friends! :)

i don't under stand i did every thing and then it brought me to the cwm and asked if i want to install this untrusted package i hit yeas it quickly shows a pic of a dead android with a triangle with a ! mark in it and it boots up normally no root no super user so what do i do

@HROARK13
'.........
I am requesting very sincerely for a way to do this without a computer, possibly a "one-click" method (or close to it). BASICALLY,I have NO access whatsoever to a computer or laptop or other device for that matter. I would give my left thumb for this to be available ( and I'm sure others would too.)

Thanks a lot for at least attempting it (in advanced. :o)

Concerned Androider with limited resources , aka I'm ****** broke. Lol :bawling::banghead::argh::vollkommenauf::stupido2:

the exploit requires you to be the user "shell"

the only way I know how to be that user is by using adb shell

so I would not know how to do this

sorry man

try to go into CWM make sure it is CWM and not stock recovery

and install the Super SU zip file

can you make a video? its confusing
or you can help me because nothing happened after rebooting
thank you!

ROOT AND CWM RECOVERY FOR ZTE CONCORD 2

This would not be possible with out the ASEC exploit by jcase, if it was not for people like him, developers like ShabbyPenguin and myself would not be able to do any work on these phones, so we are grateful to him and you should be as well, please show your gratitude to him in some way, even if it just a post in this thread saying thank you.

This exploit was taken from The Practical Android Exploitation document found here

http://theroot.ninja/PAE.pdf

It is a very interesting read, I recommend reading it if you are interested in Android security.

Thanks to Koush for making ClockWorkMod source code, he is an awesome guy.

Thanks to Chainfire for his SuperSU, he is awesome as well

ShabbyPenguin and I worked on the recovery and recovery install script, which is specific to this phone.

THE ZTE CONCORD 2 HAS SYSTEM WRITE PROTECTION, EVEN IF YOU HAVE ROOT ACCESS YOU CAN NOT RE-MOUNT THE SYSTEM PARTITION AS READ/WRITE WHEN YOU ARE BOOTED FROM THE "BOOT" PARTITION, THIS IS A FUNCTION OF THE BOOT LOADER AND IS BEYOND MY ABILITY TO RECTIFY

HOWEVER

IF YOU BOOT FROM THE "RECOVERY" PARTITION THE SYSTEM WRITE PROTECTION IS OFF, SO THREW A CUSTOM RECOVERY WE CAN INSTALL OUR ROOT FILES AND MAKE MODS TO THE PHONE AND SUCH

THE IS ONLY FOR THE ZTE CONCORD 2 IF YOU USE THIS ON SOME OTHER PHONE AND BRICK IT, THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM FOR NOT READING

FOR THOSE THAT ARE USING THIS ON THE ZTE CONCORD 2, ROOTING YOUR PHONE AND INSTALLING A CUSTOM RECOVERY WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY, AND IF YOU USE ROOT OR RECOVERY ACCESS TO DO SOMETHING ABNORMAL WITH YOUR PHONE AND BRICK IT, THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM, NOT MINE

You need to have a Windows Computer for this.

You need to have USB debugging enabled on the phone

You need to have your phone plugged into your computer

You need to have the ZTE USB drivers installed on the computer, when you have your phone plugged into a Windows computer, there should be an emulated CD drive that has the USB driver on it, run the setup.exe to install the USB driver

Download the zip
ADA-ASEC-ROOT-CWM-V2

Extract it to some location
Double click the ADA-ASEC-Root.bat to install CWM and Root your phone

make sure the folder you made and put this in does not have spaces in the folder name

The phone should reboot a few times, and go into CWM, and install root

You will probably get a message in CWM about "Root access possible lost"

You can choose "Yes fix root"

Now you will have SuperSU installed, you will be rooted, and you will have Clock Work Mod installed

This is how you can boot into ClockWorkMod

From a powered off state hold Volume Up and Power Button and it will boot to CWM

.hK

Do you or Shabby think this same method would work with the newly released Zmax, or is that phone probably going to need another method?

I honestly do not know, they may have patched the vuln

It may have a locked boot loader, which would mean CWM could not be installed, which is also needed for this method

it is really hard to say

NOTICE: I am NOT a Dev. Nothing with the root method has changed... I just like Batch and wanted to make this easier to use as the original .BAT file had some bugs.

I took the original .BAT file for rooting and made it prettier and also made it accept file paths with spaces!

I've personally tested out this version last night on 10 different ZTE Concord 2's (all without SD cards), and was able to root all of them with no issues.

NOTE: Just like the original version, due to ADB limitations you MUST NOT have more than 1 ADB Device connected when running this. If you have multiple ADB Devices connected (Ex: multiple phones or multiple phones on a USB hub) rooting will fail.

Without further ado, I present what I have dubbed v3 of the rooting .BAT script!
Please test and let us know if it works for you or you have issues.

Hey guys,
I'm willing to brick this ZTE Zinger if need be, but are there any files off of the Zinger I can send you in order for you to modify the files in the same way you modified it for the Concord 2?
Thanks
