HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download

ok... so it would be great if i could get an answer for this:

I originally went to 2.1 using this thread: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html

if i follow the instructions from the link that you've posted in this thread will that work to upgrade to v3? or do I need to do something else?

i'm just a little confused by the multiple versions floating around i think and just want to make sure i'm not going to brick my eris...

Yes, you can, but you'll need to make the exported .csv file in Gmail. JUST IN CASE. Syncing can be a funny business, mostly it's based off time stamps and if Google sees you deleted contacts most recently on your cell phone, it can (and will) delete them from Gmail.

As I posted before - there is a relatively simple way to do this. Get your contacts the way you want them in Gmail. Export to .csv. Delete all contacts from your Eris. Sync with Google. One of two things will happen - either it will pull your contacts down, or it will erase them from Google. If it pulls them down, you are done. If it erases them from Gmail, then simply import your .csv file into your Contacts in Gmail, and they will them sync to your phone.

As for viewing them directly, you may be out of luck there. I make shortcuts directly to my top 20 people and put them on a home screen to avoid the People app. It's better in 2.1v3, but it's still slow for a modern phone book and it's rather a PITA to deal with. Sounds like you need to delete everything out of your address book and start with a clean sync.

appreciate the help. it work, problems are resolved, mostly. an update for those who are having the same issue -
you can view the contacts by long-pressing and selecting edit. it will give you several choices, and ive found that the first one is almost always the one you input, so go to that first.
also, when you go to sync contacts after deleting them all, you may get an error that sync is experiencing problems, blah blah blah. ignore it. it still works, it seems to somehow be tied into that "too many contact deletes" thing.
 
Hmmm. I wonder why they call it a leak when it is obviously probably the proprietor (in this case Verizon) porting this out on purpose? Many reasons why they would do it. Easy bug testing. haha.. But, bet your @$$ I am getting it! Thanks guys.

Note: I have not actually used it to restore contacts myself, it is beta, and they warn, because of the beta status, that you should not depend on it for critical data backup needs, but this may be one to file away for the future if you are going to depend on Google for your data.
 
How long does it take to run the upgrade? Is this something I can do during lunch and then go through the setting as time allows to put everything back the way it was?

It shouldn't take you more than 30-40 minutes to update to v3 and get everything running the way it was prior to the update. The actual update takes maybe 10 minutes to complete.
 
I upgraded a couple of days ago to 2.1 and everything has been great. I installed handcent and better keyboard and my response time when I try to switch to landscape in my text msgs is super slow and sometimes it wont go into landscape at all. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks for the help.

I don't use better keyboard, but, I use ChompSMS and Swype and I do not have significant lag.

Do you have it set to automatically change orientation?

How many other apps do you have installed? Do a lot of services run in the background?
 
Yes, I have it set to automatically change orientation. When I went into task killer there were 8 programs in there. It seems to work sometimes but when I get a notification and click inside the notification box to reply to a text it will not change orientation at all. do you think it could be handcent? Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the help.

I just discovered that I am no longer able to use 'adb push' commands to modify the bootanimation since upgrading to 2.1v3. Anyone else try this?

I think it's better keyboard. That's what happens with me at times. But never happened before I used Better Keyboard, although I still use it anyways.
 
It did not do it before handcent or better keyboard so I think I will go back to my default keyboard first and see if that fixes it.
 
son of a....!!!!!! now when I pinch the screen my leap doesn't work. If I press the Home button while on my home screen then i will get the leap screen...just not with a pinch.

anyone else?
 
Alright, I have seen some mention of this in the thread, but not "exactly" what i'm looking for. So... IF I upgrade to 2.1v3 leak, will my "paid for" apps still be available to re-download? Anybody have experience with this?

Yes, your paid apps will all be available for download. You will not have to pay for them again.
 
hmmm... Switched to Handcent and normal Home UI... Unplugged for about 5 hours now... battery is at 60% remaining. Not 50% bug or anything. Anyone else having this? any ideas of how i can fix this?
 
could be handcent, if I had unread messages it was keeping my phone awake...started a couple three updates ago
 
hmm. maybe i'll uninstall it tonight n see how that goes. I hope thats not the culprit... I like that it has a little chime when talking on the phone as opposed to vibrating in your ear like stock messaging does...
 
Thanks so much for this. I actually sat and read all 21 pages today at work before deciding to update. The only thing I have noticed so far that yes the dial pad does seem a little more sluggish in 2.1 than 1.5. Is it enough to make me angry with it? Absolutely not. Facebook sync fine. Exchange email works. Though i am having a problem figuring out my verizon home account settings. Maybe someone can post the settings for me?

I have made a couple calls and received a couple calls today haven't had any problems. I have not seen any apps missing except for my verizon fios apps to control the DVR. but I assume i can just send the code to myself through the box and install it that way.

I will report back on friday after testing it for a good week if I have any other issues. But as of now anyone looking to update their phone, just do it, you will not regret it. The menu's are different, more organized, colored. helicopter view of the home screen is decent. and google nav is awesome. Text to speech is great too!
 
Is anyone using the Weather Channel Widget? I think this may be cause for some of the battery drain problems. just a new leak shouldnt kill the battery so fast! I just noticed that my drain issues were all AFTER I installed this. will test tmrw and check back in with my results!
 
If anyone is having an issue with the leak, just call customer service and play innocent about receiving a notification about being a beta testers, don't say you got a txt msg but rather a notifiction and it was done over the air, they will indeed send you a replacement phone under warrenty. new phone is coming in two days can't wait to root!!!
