Few young children are aware of the Italian Renaissance.I've always wondered why they named these guys after Italian Renaissance Painters. Leonardo was into everything (polymath), but would anyone realize that from this namesake?
But they talk about things that they enjoy.
I was first introduced to the Turtles when my youngest asked from his car seat if I thought Leonardo could take on Rafael. After being amazed that the babysitter was so high brow, and a very confusing conversation at first involving frescoes, I came to understand that we were talking about mutant turtles.
Shortly after that, we both enjoyed this documentary at a theater -

It explains everything. I highly recommend it.
From there my son went on in life to later enjoy classic arts and literature, very, very much.
And I learned what I still know today - TMNT rock.
It's good to study Leonardo. He was the last of the ancient engineers and the first modern engineer.
He's also one hell of a fine turtle.
