Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I've always wondered why they named these guys after Italian Renaissance Painters. Leonardo was into everything (polymath), but would anyone realize that from this namesake?
Few young children are aware of the Italian Renaissance.

But they talk about things that they enjoy.
I was first introduced to the Turtles when my youngest asked from his car seat if I thought Leonardo could take on Rafael. After being amazed that the babysitter was so high brow, and a very confusing conversation at first involving frescoes, I came to understand that we were talking about mutant turtles.

Shortly after that, we both enjoyed this documentary at a theater -

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100758/

It explains everything. I highly recommend it.

From there my son went on in life to later enjoy classic arts and literature, very, very much.

And I learned what I still know today - TMNT rock.

It's good to study Leonardo. He was the last of the ancient engineers and the first modern engineer.

He's also one hell of a fine turtle.

I actually had a chance to buy the original comic (man, that was what, '88 or so?), and I've regretted putting it back ever since.

Game over, man! Game over! [emoji24]

While in nanny state Britain we had...

Because the word "ninja" was deemed to be too violent, and poor old Michelangelo lost his trusty nunchaku.

Micky without chucks, and Hero instead of Ninja.

Wow. That's really sad.

What do the Turtles do to the baddies over there then? Rip out pages from the Collective Consciousness, throw it at them screaming, "you're the real loser here?" Make them milk and cookies and hope they'll want to grow up to be mommies?

I'd move to China too, I get it now. :D ;) ;)

You know, I was perfectly serious when I said that Han shot first.

Hero?

I'll take my turtles shinobi style, that you very much.

I'm not a TMNT fan, but, any Italian engineer deserves some pause for thought. Lidocaine patches and meds are helping, but, the weather is cold, and wet.

I'm at my better half's doctor's appointment; her therapist, as it were. Someone came into the waiting room with a baby gosling (chick). What a noisy little @#*!... only in NC, let me tell you. Maybe the chick needs psychiatric help...

I cannot wait to move to the Denver area... I'm done with Ye Olde South. Time to get back to civilization. I've been here most of my adult life, but, I've had enough.

Pain level: Moderate
Attitude: Good
Feelings for the future: Hopeful, and with great anticipation

Thank you for the early AM pain support - even if it came from TMNT... love you guys and ladies, LW

I never thought I'd hear someone equate Denver with civilization.

"Watch on" has decided it wants to run in the background at all times now, clogging up my notification area and drop-down...

Just wait until you find a speed trap. The border states are having hissy fits about our legal pot.
Sometimes other states have been known to hassle drivers leaving Colorado.

We are having a spell of patchy freezing fog. I don't mind the fog, I've dealt with NE pea soup. It's the patchy.

Will be fairly clear for about half a mile, then wham, you can't see 2 feet in front of you. It doesn't follow the usual rules, either. Normally, valleys and low spots get fogged out. This stuff is patchy at any elevation.

Denver usually is pretty sane until football season. The Chokers lost, and the fans are mad. A few could be said to be rabid.
Now if you are talking about the whole metro area ---- Lakewood, Arvada, Littleton, Aurora, to name a few. Unless you see the city sign, you don't know which town/city you are in and all have enclaves of some group no one likes.

Denver? Not civilization? You've got the Broncos, the Avalanche (thank you, Toronto), the Nuggets and the Rockies.

Close enough to visit my brother in CA, and I can avoid all of the polygamist sects in Utah.

Four real seasons. Boulder, should I want to visit there again. It's much more civilized than anywhere in the South, including Atlanta, and NOLA... (including the Southwest, Texas). I've been overseas, and I've extensively toured the lower 48 continental United States, including Puerto Rico.

Denver, my friend, is civilized. That's coming from a guy raised just outside of Boston, and near Cape Cod. I dig the arts, even the history of CO.

Where I am now, there is still bigotry, and racism. I know that it exists everywhere, but not when you're only a 4-hour drive from where The Civil War had begun - and, they still preach the gospel of those grand, old times. Denver's the place for me - and, yes - I even listened to John Denver as a kid, and teenager - up until he did "Thank God I'm A Country Boy."

Great eating establishments, and theater seal the deal - including the shows at Red Rocks!

Hell, yes - give me Denver :) LW

Karaoke rooms(KTV) in rural China, they may not have many English songs, but they will always have Take Me Home Country Roads - John Denver, Yesterday Once More - The Carpenters, My Heart Will Go On - Celine Dion and Seasons In The Sun, credited as Westlife and NOT Terry Jacks.

Just remembered something that did grind my gears somewhat last year. Frognie Zila Menswear, they were running a loudspeaker ad in the street, had a continuous loop of the song's chorus, with a voice-over in Mandarin, saying "GOOD NEWS!, GOOD NEWS!, suits 499 yuan, shirts 99 yuan, sweaters 99 yuan, jackets 299 yuan, pants 99 yuan"...over and over and over and over again, for a whole month.

As a Mormon from Utah, I have to speak up and say that that's a pretty harsh generalization. There's like 2 small groups left. One in Hildale and I think there might be one in SLC. They're pretty irrelevant(although the ones I've met in Hildale are generally very nice people, their leaders are abusing them though).

Mormons from Utah?

Never did care much for them, but my younger sister adored them though, especially Donny. However unlike Denver or The Carpenters, The Osmonds are completely unknown in the PRC....thankfully.

One thing in this country, I never see anyone knocking my front door and peddling "The Book Of Mormon." here....no Jehovah’s Witnesses or 7th Day Adventists or Scientologists knocking at the door either.

Yeah, we don't send missionaries to the PRC due to the political environment. I was a missionary myself, but I was in the Philippines.

I've seen LDS missionaries in Hong Kong, but public proselytizing in the mainland could get 20 years in a laogai(re-education camp). There's many Christians in China though, and worship is permitted.

You, sir, have won the internet for today.

Here's a British guy....

I could never understand why all his friends addressed him as "TC", and he also had "TC" on his bin as well. An imposter perhaps?

Definitely.

That's Hanna-Barbera's Top Cat.

Here's a clip from season 1, episode 1.

According to Wikipedia, was called Boss Cat in the UK because Top Cat already existed as cat food.
