Root [How to] ROOT & CWM for Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 JB 4.1.2 (Easy Root)

I. AM. ROOTED!

God knows why I didn't do this ages ago! One reason was I did it was so that Android Lost and Llama would be able to turn GPS on - turns out it doesn't work, ha. Never mind, I'll just leave it on all the time. Not a problem.

What's the betting I'll have bricked it by the end of the week from all the tinkering I'll undoubtedly end up doing.

Thanks for the guide Mr Smoke!

:D lol.
Jus take it easy with the tweaking...
There is loads of things you can do with root access.
And loads of apps available to explore new tricks.

If you do manage to successfully brick your phone?!
You can always fix it again by flashing your firmware again with Odin. And for precaution, always keep a copy of your firmware and Odin in your PC.

Have fun.

use Airdroid to copy the file from your PC (?) to the external SDcard

this is the 2nd phone I rooted and still exploring the advantages of rooting

for one, would like a personal boot animation

your choice;

Option 1
Download to the PC and transfer to the root of the SDcard

Option
Download to the default folder of the phone and move it to the root of the SDcard

Thanks for the guide and links Smokey. Its cool to see a phone that can still be rooted without a pc.
One question mate, does this temporary CWM allow you to make a nandroid?
If so, i recommend that everyone here makes a nandroid before tweaking anything

Oh yeah, i take it we can use the temp' cwm to flash the full version?
Cheers

This CWM does exactly the same work as the normal CWM and it removes itself from the system after you are done with it. Is fast enough to launch it anyway. Why overcrowding?!

...Some custom roms have CWM inbuilt already.

Successfully rooted, thank you Smokey!
However, I did have a problem: recovery mode couldn't see any files on my 32Gb SD card.

I tried unmounting/remounting; reformatting the card (using the phone) and copying just the root.zip folder onto it. "My Files" could see the root.zip no problem but no go in recovery mode.

Eventually I changed to a 2Gb SD Card and, hey presto, root.zip was there in recovery mode.

Now worried about the reliability of the 32Gb SD Card!
