But when I buy the EVO, they give me a new number, and then when my T-Mobile contract expires and I can go to Sprint and port my old T-Mobile phone number?
Do you know how much they would charge if I am still under contract? One time fee? Monthly?
Okay....this isn't news....but just fwiw...my experience on the phone with a Sprint sales rep just two minutes ago....
I called wanting to know what would happen if I was out of town during the release and in a NON WiMax area....would the phone be available...can I buy and port my and my wife's numbers. (remember...not very experienced here....still have a Katana) and...told the rep I'm sure he probably couldn't say anything if he knew. I explained that people on the forum here might start jumping from buildings if the phone is not release soon. He laughed and said, of course, that he didn't know anything....except that he just returned from vacation and saw on his notes...on the computer....that people are in training on the EVO now. He said this usually means the release will be soon.
As for answers to my questions....yeah...duh...feel so smart...but wanted to verify....I can go into any Sprint store and they can help me....but...he wasn't sure if the phone would be available everywhere or not. I asked him directly...so there is nothing to be read into this statement. He said to just call back to Sprint when the release date is known and ask how best to proceed. He also didn't know about the possibility for pre-order. So...perhaps Best Buy would be an option. But again....would I be able to go to a Best Buy out of state in a non 4G area? With my personal situation I may have to wait until the evening of the 9th....and would then worry about stock running short. Have any of you had experiences with purchasing out of state....with pre-orders....and the logistics of this situation? I've never waited for a phone....no research....just went in to the store and bought. This of course is very different. Feeling a bit anxious here!!!

You won't need to pay the full ETF. I think in the last 6 months it drops to $100, and drops again for the last 3 months. I know because I'm trying to get my sister out of her contract so I can get her to Sprint!

porting a number over during contract usually results in automatically cancelling ur plan. which means ETF.
you can also wait til your plan expires and then port, no charge for porting numbers. just watch out of ETF when you do it before your contract is up

I'm not in the TV advertising business and I don't care to speculate anymore. Actually, I would be happy to speculate with eieio on an earlier release date. He's still going for a May release and when you think about it, May still makes more sense.

There's nothing to worry about. They won't cancel your contract. Just call them and ask them. I also updated my previous post to add some more detail to the T-mobile ETF schedule.
Well they will give you a new number if that's what YOU want. if you tell them you want to port your number they will ask you some info on your current account and they will port it over. If you choose to get a new number and buy the evo with a new number you will be stuck with that number. Only way you will be able to port it later is if you add a line and buy another phone. They cant port the number over later to an active new line. Well maybe they can but they WON'T so be sure of what you want to do before you buy the phone.
As far as what T mobile will charge, I'd think if you're under contract still you will be charged the flat rate amount for breaking a contract early PLUS any remaining time on your CURRENT billing cycle. So if you do it RIGHT after you pay a bill it shouldn't be a whole lot more than the ETF amount

I'm not 100% on T-Mobile policy but isn't their ETF prorated as well? If you really want to switch and are nearing the end of the contract you could just walk into a Sprint store with your account number and have it ported. Now I know AT&T's ETF is prorated but I've never had T-Mobile.

you will only be charge the month remaining that you did not pay and the ETF. not sure if they will automatically prorate, but ETF will definitely apply

I really hope that the add that was posted earlier was not official... it looks like some high school student did it in iMovie....
IMO if they let something like that go out the competition will walk all over them... especially with the Droid adds looking as pro as they do.

Those are just teaser videos most likely made by HTC would be my guess. I'm sure sprint can and will do better than those heh

I would think $50 would be less than 3 months of bill
Just make sure this isn't Nexus one because Google slaps you with a $300 ETF also

Most likely who ever rendered the video didn't put the proper data coding (a lot of production insider bs that would take the rest of the night to explain) and Youtube is presenting the video in the wrong format cause it's being told to squish the video in that player.

Before the phones are released to the public, loaner units are shipped to tech blogs and news companies for review. They'll probably have some embargo and at midnight EDT on a specific day, all these sites will post their reviews and impressions (like Engadget, Phonescoop, Phonedog, etc did today at 12:01 AM EDT for the Microsoft Kin and Kin Two). Anyway, this may be a good way to get the word out, just before WWDC and the new iPhone. Then people will immediately compare the EVO 4G to the new iPhone and draw their own conclusions.
That's the end of my speculation.
