Far from it. It tasted like fish and a hint of hickory. If that makes sense.

It was really fatty but it wasn't like beef fat. If you've ever tasted menudo it tastes like the beef just a lot more melt in your mouth tender

I appreciate the info. It sounds good. I've never eaten menudo but have had some Chinese dishes that had pork belly for meat. It's likely quite the same I'm guessing. Fatty soft yet doesn't taste at all like beef fat. Melt in your mouth juicy meat.
