Well they will give you a new number if that's what YOU want. if you tell them you want to port your number they will ask you some info on your current account and they will port it over. If you choose to get a new number and buy the evo with a new number you will be stuck with that number. Only way you will be able to port it later is if you add a line and buy another phone. They cant port the number over later to an active new line. Well maybe they can but they WON'T so be sure of what you want to do before you buy the phone.

As far as what T mobile will charge, I'd think if you're under contract still you will be charged the flat rate amount for breaking a contract early PLUS any remaining time on your CURRENT billing cycle. So if you do it RIGHT after you pay a bill it shouldn't be a whole lot more than the ETF amount

This is incorrect. You would not be stuck with your new Sprint number. As long as your T-Mobile account is active you can port your number at any time. I used to own a cell phone store and we ported numbers all of the time after we gave people numbers while they waited for contracts to expire or what not.
 
Hi newbie here and I have been lurking for about 3 weeks!(no real info to pass along). I enjoy reading everyones posts. I googled evo from curiosity off sprints promo for the phone or lack there of :) (contest) and ended up here. Soooooo........ on a quick note I was in the sprint store last wed 4/28 as I was picking up sons phone and another employee and customer where talking and I quickly joined since I heard the evo word. He mentioned they just had their training... maybe different areas have diff training days would be my guess? Thats all I have sorry not much to it. I did try to dig for more but after he said that he clammed up!

Made a visit with some friends I have made a Sprint store over the last 2 months, trying to get some info, and i was told in private.
"wouldn't it be funny if the phone was released on the same day as the Disney movie that they have been advertizing with the phone since day one" May 28th
I tried to get him to tell me more but you know how that is. SCARED

I don't care if its May or June just as long comes before offical summer

With all of the talk of the Radio Shack pre-orders and other Sprint stores already did training and the Evo on eBay to be shipped before the 31st. I still believe the Evo could come out on or around the Prince of Persia release which is May 28th. I am not saying our new member from Sprint is wrong about the 6th of June. I am just saying I hope it sooner and things do change. The 28th isn't that far off from the 6th release date but it is still a nice jump. I have been saying this for a while now. Hey if it comes out on the 28th YAHOO! for me! If not that's cool too.

That would be amazing if true! and it does make sense, and it would put them before the WWDC enough to get some press coverage in.

but as before my money is still on June 6th...

Here is my thought about that..

Lets say you see the Movie on the 28th..

They run an ad for the EVO show off the features etc.. Your impressed with it.. Where do you go to buy it after the movie???

Would it not make sense to have it available to the public to buy before the movie??

So it launches with the movie premiere and you have to wait 2 -3 more weeks to go buy it??

I have said on or before the movie release. I still think there is a chance that they might even do an earlier limited launch in 4G areas. Also if it would launch on the day that Prince of Persia releases you would already know where to buy it and be able to buy it immediately. If they release the phone and movie the same day I am sure they will be advertising the movie and the Evo separately and together on TV and such within the next few days if not at least after the May 12th event. :) post #9266 "on or around the 28th"
 
that's a crazy idea. i never thought of them releasing the phone on the day of the movie. i thought they only chose to use the movie to market the phone. that would be awesome
 
I know Jackson says 6/6, as does the new girl bringing news today, and SelfPraise said he hadn't heard anything but 6/6 or 6/13, but I think May 28th or 29/30 (weekend) makes perfect sense and will end up being the correct date. The main argument against it is that it's memorial day weekend and many people will be traveling and not focused on buying a phone, but personally I would definitely not hesitate to cancel or postpone my vacation if it competed with getting the EVO on day one.

If they announce the price/date on the 12th, it would be just over two weeks till the 28th, but 3 and a half weeks until June 6th. Most new phones are available for sale 2 weeks after the release date being announced. Official Droid release info was given on 10/22/2009 and was available on 11/6/2009, Palm Pre was announced 5/19/2009, available 6/6/2009, htc Incredible was announced on 4/14/2010 and was available on 4/29/2010.

All those were right around two weeks. So I'm going with a May 12th announcement, and memorial day weekend availability. It stays ahead of the iphone frenzy, and matches up with the Prince of Persia opening. If the date is officially on saturday, the 29th, it would be cool if bestbuy or sprint stores had a special midnight release party the night before. my guess is 28th. it's the same day as the movie. it's a friday and memorial day. it's also 1 week before the actual 6.6.10 date. which means they may do it like tp1 and tp2 release where they let preorders go through as phone orders and then ship it out... stores get it 1 week after preorder, which will be 6.6.10.
 
You guys gotta stop with this whole "it makes sense" deal. Just because may makes more sense to release the phone doesn't mean its going to happen. You have people that actually know what is going on for some reason, telling you its not coming out this month but continue to keep your hopes up and argue about it.

I mean I understand its ok to speculate but some of you take it too far and have high expectations.

we do it because we need to fuel the fire and keep it running until the release date. this will help us cope with the anxiety problem

I love almost every post from them both and will be sad to have them gone for a week. I think they are both a bit hot headed at times though and the rule of the "iron trident" may help keep things running smooth and mellow, at a time when everyone is on edge, aiting for real news.
