Wow no charge for 4g hotspot! If true I will be canceling my home internet!

Be sure you take latency into consideration. if you game or do any remote computing, you will notice the lag of 3g internet. 4g I am not sure. Maybe River or someone can comment on 4g latency?

my comcast cable is about 20-80ms latency, west coast to east. 3g typically runs 180-250ms. Workable, but if you are in a MMO game (yes, I still love my MMOs), you will hate it.

You guys gotta stop with this whole "it makes sense" deal. Just because may makes more sense to release the phone doesn't mean its going to happen. You have people that actually know what is going on for some reason, telling you its not coming out this month but continue to keep your hopes up and argue about it.

I mean I understand its ok to speculate but some of you take it too far and have high expectations.

Or Sprint could not release any important info on the 12th (I would die), then release it two weeks previous to June 6th. Potentially.

True, but I highly doubt that with the hotspot running it will drain more power than it takes in while charging. If it does, it wouldn't last 2 minutes on battery alone.

Actually, my palm pixi in hotspot mode, being used by my laptop, will drain about as much power as usb charging from my laptop can give it. Took me all day to charge it to full like that. However, when on a wall charger, it charged more normally.

Can't say that too often :p

I tease...my future father in law lives by Kalamazoo.

with the economy in michigan the way it is, it's nice of clear to throw us a bone. There is also a good chance grand rapids will be one of the google fiber cities. If that happens then i can almost guarantee that grand rapids will become a tech test market. (its been a product test market for years)

who are the experts saying may?

without checking (this monster is over 100 pages), i'm pretty sure eieio thinks it'll be earlier (may?), and, not taking away from any of our other "experts," but i like his info. there may be others; too tired to check.

ultimately, i believe that the release date is fluid, and somebody here who has legitimate insider info is going to be wrong, to no fault of their own.

3 miles down the road! Yeh on release date, I don't live in a huge market. I know it's gonna be tough but imagine me 30K miles up rocking my evo.

Get your 16gb chip a few days early and pre-load it with music and video, so you have something to rock it with :) You may get a plane with wifi, if lucky, but the bandwidth is pretty lame on those.

Up until tonight I've thought any speculation about a may release or a late summer release was ridiculous because Jackson and SelfPraise say 6/6 or 6/13 and they have a better idea than us (but they don't have a hard date either)

What I didn't realize though, is that the Prince of Persia release date is 5/28. Sprint is clinging to the ball sac of that movie. It was their go to demo at the ctia event, and they have their may 12th partnership event together. Now, IF they announce the release date at that may 12th event, based on past phone releases, it won't be more than a 2.5 week wait to buy it after the announcement, which puts the availability date on memorial day weekend. However, jackson speculated that maybe the may 12th event would reveal the price/specs, and the NYC event on the 17th would have the release date. If that's the case, June 5th/6th it is, 2.5 weeks later.

Obviously we just have to wait and see, but understand that I'm not going to be disappointed if the date is as late as 6/13. That's fine with me, I have no problem waiting, and anything earlier is a bonus. If it is available memorial day weekend though, I'll be happy that I put my prediction on record here now instead of not commenting because the people that have seen the device are guessing 6/6. Hope that "makes sense"...

Sprint/Evo fans,

Okay long time lurker and long time poster (April counts) I just wanted to say what a great time to be alive in this period of technology.
I have been around since 386x Intel micro processor! (16 MHz) I have grown to help pioneer PIII intel processor (800Mhz) and create Intel P4 processor (2.4Ghz). I am now the grandfather to present desktop processors today (iCore 7).

I have never been more excited for a piece of technology as the HTC EVO. WiMax will bridge technology gaps like never before. I know along with the amazing hardware combination and true mobile broadband experience it will be something like never before.

I was a early pioneer of Wimax, and tested it in 1998 inside the walls of Intel.
I am extremely thankful to see the enthusiasm on this thread. I can rest knowing that every decision was sound not only for the company but the future of technology. I am fortunate to know a friend with his own technological law (Moor's Law) “technology would multiply itself every 2years.” I am pleased to see it holds true. I don’t think he took in account there would be a pause, and then move to 3mbs to 12mbs in one year, but it did double over time.

I will be enjoying mobile broadband experience, with everyone on this thread with the rest of the world mobile.
I am taking my hat off to Sprint and HTC for collaborating and making WiMax possible on a national wide scale. I will like to add to Sprint for doing the R&D on pie in the sky technology at a time nobody even knew what WiMax technology is.
I can soundly say, if it were not for there vision of Sprint/HTC/WiMax. I know this thread would not exist.
I hope the younger generation takes this opportunity to not only appreciate what technology can do for you today. I hope you see it for what it is, a platform for tomorrow. I know this is a little off topic, but it seems to have reliance, considering what the EVO can do. (Medical, Technological, Personal, and, Inform)

If it where not for Sprint pioneering the spirit of true technology at half the cost, less energy, and resource efficient. I know as consumers, we would all be stuck with AT&T or Verizon, with no 4G

BSOD>-_o<

Sincerely

Andy Grove

IMO releasing the Evo on the 29th would be better. That way they'll get to advertise during the PoP movie and people can go buy the phone next morning :)

If all the new info is true, I should be able to get some confirmation from my Sprint corp rep. I work for a pretty big company and my rep usually has new phone info. I have not asked her yet, because I don't like putting anyone in the hot seat. However, since it seems like news is breaking, she should be ok to tell me.

emailing her now...

The overwhelming consensus of our people with inside connections is that this phone will release in June. And yes...it's speculation to be sure....but IF Sprint wanted to really make a suprise release with this phone...without tipping their hand to competitors...they would have to play in a very clever way...which would be to keep people in the dark....or even to put out false dates. Is this possible? For example, many phones have fake names...like Supersonic...or Passion...etc....just to throw people off track. Ultimately, our quest will soon come to an end...as all the indicators are present for a pending release. Of course I would LOVEVOLUTION to be released just before vacation...on not on the tail end. And yes...it would make sense to do so...get the phone out during a busy holiday weekend...the movie premier....beat the iPhone by another few days....but this doesn't mean it will happen.

I think I will go ahead and buy a few accessories....the microsd 16GB...a screen protector...either boxwave or Ghost Armor to start...and perhaps the Seidio Innocase. I think I'll order those in the next day or so and have them waiting for the big day. I would like to buy the hdmi cable...but think I'll wait for Monoprice :D

I agree, but does the film company control the ads before the movie, or the individual movie theater? I just read the summary of the film and it says this:

"it's up to the prince and the princess to return the sands to the hourglass by using the Dagger of Time, which also gives him a limited control over the flow of time"

So maybe Jake G. travels to 2010 and comes back to persia with an evo and becomes king by wielding the power of the evo. They have to work a cameo in somehow if they can't have an ad before the movie starts!

do they even have cases already made for it?

Wow...what a day. Today first thing(read 1pm because I don't go to work until 3 and don't wake up before 1130) I went to the T-mobile store to look at a HD2. All I can say is great googa mooga...it is very big....and very beautiful. I cannot freakin wait until this thing comes out, I cannot wait until I can rub it in the faces of the 3, yes three, coworkers of mine that have bought the incredible.
After that I went to best buy, I asked the 'cell phone expert?' if she had any info on the EVO and she said that she didn't and they wouldn't be selling it at the store, only online. I dunno if this is because I live in Tallahassee which is a pretty small market or what but I thought it was interesting and sucks a lot.
I personally think that it will come out 6/6, I think that dan hesse is going to metaphorically give AT&T and apple the bird and spit in their eyes. I'm not sure if he is crazy(either the good or the bad kind), but I think he is looking for a serious fight. I'm not sure if sprint can win that fight or not, it will take all of us getting out and doing some serious campaigning, a good marketing campaign and probably some luck(anybody here that is irish and willing to give theirs up?) and even that might not work...we will know the answer to that in about a month.
As far as the experts here, I think that some may not be who they say they are, I think that we have at least 1 person from sprint marketing here, but I don't think anybody is trying to hurt us or fool us. I think they are here to guerrilla market this phone and give us little tidbits of info to keep us interested and work up some excitement without sprint actually getting into it. Truthfully, whom ever they are, I appreciate them being there and the knowledge they share with us.

one more question.... and I know this has probably been talked about before....but I would truly appreciate knowing the advantages and disadvantages....if any...of buying directly from Sprint...or from Best Buy or Radio Shack....or even of buying online via Sprint....and then as a comparison Wirefly?

One thing I can think of right away is that you don't get your contacts transfered to your new phone if you buy online...and perhaps this is true at Best Buy or Radio Shack. I want to change my current family plan to the Sprint Everything 1500 Every Mobile? plan...and my wife and I want to port our current number to the new phone.

Since we will be out of town on the 6th of June....I need to have a strategy....and want to know my best option.

Thanks!

buying from Bestbuy relieves you from sending in MIR which means bestbuy will give you instant discount

I never thought about Sprint releasing it with the POP movie. That would make sense, but then again this is Sprint. I really hope they do it right this time, because I am obsessing over this phone and don't want to be let down like I was with my Pre.

never liked seidio, as i think they are overpriced

Cool...I haven't ever tried any of their products...but it was recommended a few pages or more back in this thread. Can't remember the name of the poster...but he's a regular. He said his friend had one and he was impressed. Two things I don't want to happen.... 1. it bulks the phone up too much. 2. It hides the aesthetics of the phone without improving them. Of course it might be an improvement! LOL Oh...there is a #3.... don't want to drop my phone and have it shatter or crack! So I'm tempted to try it....and Ebay it if I don't like it. But yeah...they don't have them yet. I might just do the screen protector to start and try to be extra careful until I decide what to do with regard to case.

Gonna hit the sleepy train now....peace out!
