Please close this thread, it gives me such tired head.

"Is it this week?"
"Is it next week"
"I hear it's XX day"
"No, no way, they are totally lying to us."
"No, just download the leak, ignore all the leaks."
"No HTC promised us this, they owe me this, I bought their product."
"I read that that phone XXXXX is getting it, so we are totally getting it soon."
"Dude, it's a conspiracy, we'll never get it."
"I got it! No just kidding."
"I am really sad that we don't have it yet."
"No really, I'm sad."
"Oh god, pray for me, my Eris is running 1.5"
"Oh god, I just shot myself and ate my phone."
"I'm bleeding out, but I just talked to HTC and it's coming............."

Your list there is proof that this thread is serving the purpose of fewer "when?" threads being started in here.

The dozen or so whines in that list could very well be a dozen or so new whiny threads, but it's all right here in one thread. ;)

Good point, however to counterpoint that, I will do everything in my power to kill this thread.

Not trying to burst anyone's bubble but that update for the Hero may not happen.

2.1 update for Sprint Hero not coming Friday after all? | Android Central

Yeah, the phone will probably become the butt of every joke in the phone world as being the phone that had the most anxious users but never got the phone update they wanted. Or, they did get it, just as the world ended in 2012.

Do you even have to ask?

Will he be a combination of an analyst and a therapist? An "analrapist" if you will?

But it died long ago.

We like to pretend it's alive. Like Weekend at Bernie's. Stick a pair of sunglasses on this thread and...

And also give HTC a break, it's up to Verizon, not HTC, if a release will hit the phone or not. As far as I see the update WILL happen, until Verizon says different (and the leaks prove it is still being tested and tweaked) The only thing Verizon themselves screwed up on is announcing an update in Q1 and allowing that to pass without a release or at least an update on progress. Their follow-through failed. I DO hope they are training their CSRs NOT to succumb to rumors and respond based on fact. there my 2 cents!
if we hadnt been directed to HTC by verizon, we would have never even thought to call HTC, as i'm smarter than to assume the manufacturer of the phone has anything to do with OS updates. we were told by the vzw customer service people that the in store people need to stop giving updates ont he status of the update, because even if it were to be released tomorrow, they wouldnt know, and the csr people couldnt say yes or no. this was our big complaint with verizon, that we'd rather not know anything than to keep being strung along with "it got pushed back." which we were told when we purchased our phones that the droid would get 2.1 and then SHORTLY there after the eris would be.
we were also told by the same rep that directed us to HTC that the incredible runs 1.22, which is just silliness. anyhow, our upgrade(hardware) date for the eris was May 21st, so they offered to move the upgrade date to yesterday, so we can upgrade from the eris to the incredible

I may be crazy on this, but hear me out. I use to work in customer service for a few big companies, we always knew about stuff like this before its rolled out. For you know, training purposes. I never worked for Verizon or HTC, but I've worked for companies that roll out updates, changes, new products etc. And we always knew about this stuff before it was rolled out so that way when the stuff does roll out we are already trained on it for when people call up.

So I'm not vouching for verizon's csr that they know when the OS is coming out, but to say they don't get told ahead of time is kind of ridiculous.

Times have changed. Chances are when you worked with customer service you picked up the phone when someone called. Now, they bullshit you with robot menus and such.

I'm sure reps know about 2.1. Who doesn't? They probably know features, etc. but not when it comes out. We too know the features, but we also don't know when it comes out.

It was only 3 months ago. I've worked for companies bigger and smaller than verizon, and we knew when something was coming out.

But it died long ago. ;)

My point is, and it appears Smacky has a similar view, that this thread, like a few others, has strayed not in subject so much as "squeezing water from a rock."

Rampant, distant topic drift usually kills a thread, whether it's been locked or not. Some topic drift is natural and can even help the original point of the thread to be brought into clarity.

But this thread died hundreds of posts ago from the other thread killer: same points being repeated ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

Last summer, I was waiting for an update to my Omnia. It was available only from the store (though I had the leaked official version). When I went to the store about 3 weeks after the update, they had no clue and I had to tell them that it was there and to look in their computer. The CSR did and it was there. I don't know about phone center tech support, but store CSR's often do not know that an update has been rolled out or even exists.

With the warmer weather rolling around...Have you tried making a cold brew of Apple Cinnamon tea without sugar added. Just straight up...Very smooth!

OMG Stop bitching and just install it already, takes 10 minutes:

HTC Sense 2.1 Android for Droid Eris Leaked Download & Install Now

I have played with this like crazy and the only bug I've seen is that it doesn't link my contacts with facebook. Other than that non-essential feature it has worked perfectly, i tested voice nav and the whole OS is generally faster.

Now I get the satisfaction of sticking it to Verizon, who CLEARLY is delaying the release to drive sales of it's other, fancier 2.1-powered android phones. 5 months to test a firmware release? complete bullsh**

Before you update get Rerware's mybackup free trial. It will back up all your applications, contacts, sms/mms, everything to SD card. It restores contacts and everything perfectly - just install mybackup from market after your 2.1 upgrade and use the restore function.

--edit--
Minutes after writing this my contact list was updated with the facebook profile connections I had made before the 2.1 update.

I've been through the phone's features with a fine-tooth comb and post-update my phone is 100% as functional as before. Bonus, its faster and I get a couple new features. The simplicity of doing the update really makes this worth the effort. If you can mount your phone's sd card on your pc's file system, you can do this.

No more guessing if it will ever come out! its on Big Red's "Software Update:Droid Eris" page.
Im waiting like Frisco till the OTA comes out which should be VERY SOON now. Have a look at this and stop all the crying as to when it will come out. Finally the wait is almost over.
Software Update: DROID Eris by HTC<br>Coming Soon!

Remember Patience is a virtue people. :)

For all of the people who insisted that the Eris was not getting 2.1, finally we can soon say, "told you so!"

But what about those of us fine with 1.5 and who don't want the 2.1 update?

Oh, wait, I'm the only one.

Never mind.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I wonder if they would do any bug fixes in the rom without changing the numbers...

The ROM designation is not necessarily the same software code at all. That happens often with linux distribution releases.

It's the hash, md5 sum, and actual size than can tell us if it is the exact same version. And I doubt very much if it is.
