[Battery] Fixes and Tips

Hasn't been the case for me, I charged my phone overnight, when I wore up I installed the update, then called 2 automated message numbers and checked the weather. All this took probably 7-8 minutes, and my battery meter read 93%. Now, an hour and a half later after light-moderate use, 80%.

I put mine back on the charger after the update, because after the update I could see that the meter had dropped.

Basically I took it off the charger, noticed the update was available, installed it, used it for a short time, saw the battery down a notch, and put it back on the charger until it was full and the LED was glowing green.

It was after that when I took it off and the point of my post began.

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but after being unplugged for an 100 minutes, my battery is still showing 100%, and during this hour and 40 minute time period, I was talking on it for 16 minutes.

If I did this yesteday, there is no way the battery would still show 100%

For the first time my device didn't drop down to 95% with in 5 mins as well. Mine didn't stay at 100% for a long time but after 1 hour and 20 mins of standby it was at 97%. Again could just be a hell of a coincidence...

after the update my battery power actually increased to 110%!!!:p

but seriously, the update was only for corp email something.

I am in the same boat as mochapenguin :(
i am too however once i get down to like 60% its starts draining really slow. i will be down to 75% with 2 hrs of when i wake up but when the day is over i will still have 45%. its weird the way it discharges but it works for me.

The update was just some email fixes. I do not think any hardware updates were done. Can not find the link (in this forum somewhere), but it was an itty bitty update.

It reads only three Meg give or take. I'm not corp, on an old Alltel plan actually and I got it. Noticed absolutely nothing so far that is different

Same boat as mochapenguin. I shut my phone off on the charger last night. When I unplugged it and turned it on this morning, I immediately was brought to the d/l. After it installed I was at 95% and that was just after only installing the update. Boo.

Most people didn't get the update - for the corp users.

Not sure this is true. Reports are that a lot of people who are NOT corporate users got the update. I got the update and am on the normal $29.99 Smart Phone data plan and many others did as well.

Yes, it you look around the forum, almost everyone got the update.

that would be a tough one to do OTA ;)

ALSO

Everyone SHOULD get the update because you can always add an exchange account at anytime. So that way you will have the update already

Battery life has increased for me as well. Thank god! Took my incredible off the charger at 9am. It's now after 2 and I'm still at 80%! Played 2 short games, sent numerous texts and used Where app for approx.10 min. I'm VERY happy!

I think what's causing confusion to a lot of people is that the battery percentage is basically what the phone's software "thinks" is left of the battery.

These "guess-timates" are typically set conservatively, so a symptom of this is that the phone will shut down early on the first few charges.

As the phone "realizes" that there is actually more than 14% left of the battery after a few hours, based on a previous discharge cycle, the estimates get more relaxed, opening up more of the real battery capacity.

It's not the battery that changed, it's the phone's estimate of battery capacity that changed.

I know everyone is saying this shouldn't be the case but I also saw huge jumps in battery life after 5 or so days. I am now getting about 30 hours on average without limiting anything that I want to do. I also never turn off "Mobile Network" because I see that as a hassle and a bit of a deal breaker if turning it off is a "must" to get through the day (which it isn't).

Things I changed:

Changed Facebook sync to only happen once a day (don't really care about this because I use the actual app often enough)
Changed weather sync to every 3 hours
Put the screen brightness pretty low (honestly I think it is still pretty dang bright on the low setting)

I probably have about 3-4 hours of total "usage" time during the 30 hours I let it go. Those include phonecalls, texts, internet surfing, facebook, etc. This might be lower than some people but I'm not one of those guys who is able to play on his phone all day long :p

Day 5 was my magic day as well. I don't know why and I don't care why, but I saw way better life than the previous 4 days. Today is day 6 and so far, it's shaping up just like yesterday.

Also people stop playing with it constantly....

I'm positive that this is what the culprit is. When you get a new toy, all you do is play with it until it gets to be just another toy. Once the "newness" wears off you use it just like any other phone and you're not looking at it constantly - thus saving battery life.

Heh. People are funny like that.

Kind of like girlfriends? When you get one you just want to play with it all the time, then the newness wears off and....:) :D
