Help Galaxy S3 Weird battery/phone problem...

Lurker
Hi there everyone, i have an extremely weird galaxy s3 problem. My phone immediately drops from 100% (it says full charged) to around 52% when i unplug it from the charger. Second, the phone can never charge more than 50% when i charge it turned off. The phone dies rather quickly (around 1-2 hours from the point of 50%). What's weird about this problem is that with enough reboots to my phone (2-3 reboots), the battery immediately goes from 0% back up to 50-60ish% . I can do this at the least, 2-3 times, although i haven't tried how long it would take for my phone to really fully die out. I initially had this problem with my original battery that came with the phone but for a while, i thought it was a battery problem, therefore, i bought 2 anker batteries in which the problem still exists for each. Second, i've even bought another charger yet to no avail, the problem exists. The very last thing i did was factory resetting my phone and it was working like a new phone with no problems on the first day but right after the first day, the problem came back.

Here is a picture of what i'm talking about. Here as you can see, my phone starts off at 100% and the second i unplug the charger, it drops down to around 50-60%. On the battery graph itself, you can see the steep drop in battery level for no apparent reason. from 50-60%ish till 0, it dies the first time. Second, you can see that it raises back up to green again when i reboot the phone. Once again, it goes down to 0% again and dies the second time at the red level indicator. Then again, it goes back up to green and when i accidently restarted my phone, it goes back down to red (the little dot near the end of the graph) and lastly, i reboot again and it is once again, back to green. It's obvious to say, with each reboot, the graph gets steeper and steeper so i mean the battery is dying even faster. What's the problem? I hope i provided enough information, i really hope you guys can help me. This is a refurbished phone tmobile sent me last march/april since my first gs3 had some headphone issues and they sent me a replacement through warranty/insurance

Have you tried a factory reset? (last resort)
I've seen the exact same issue caused by a firmware update that a factory reset fixed (as I'm sure you know, a reset wipes all user data)
Scrap that lol. I'd only scanned your post and just read back that you'd done a reset already sorry.
I don't know what else to suggest other than testing your battery in safe mode to see if it's a user app causing the issue or reflashing the firmware

If it's doing the same thing with a new battery, charger, new cable, and factory reset then their is probably something wrong with the charging circuit in the phone. You'll have to send it off for repair/replacement.

Another thing you can try is to charge your new battery with a wall charger (Anker has some inexpensive ones) and see how the fully charged battery acts in the phone. If the phone works OK then you know the problem is in the charging circuit.

I was disappointed to see that Sammy took away the removable battery option from the S6. A removable battery has always been a requirement of mine when choosing a phone, but I guess that ship is leaving the dock.

WoW I came here due charging problem with my G3 after trying all kinds of things to fix the problem and driving me nuts after checking all the cables and charger and phone wont even hardly charge now with new and old battery. The phone takes forever to charge now and battery draining super fast. I have connected to charger most of the time so was not aware how long the problem has been there and now guessing its an software update that draining battery maybe as apps saying google app was using the most in the battery settings screen. Going to post this for feedback or see if I should post this elsewhere. The phone is rooted running Conquest Singularity.

If you think its software, just reflash the ROM. Try a dirty flash first to see if it helps. Then try a clean flash. Or a different ROM since moonknightus isn't even developing that ROM anymore.

Why would the ROM act up as been there for a long time. I think problem is my google update I got recently dont know how to get around that unless I just not allow app to update. I dont want to rollback phone but could try to do a dirty flash. I like the ROM I am using and dont need want lollipop on this phone.

A dirty flash won't rollback anything. If it appears to be the google app maybe try just clearing cache and data for that app. Then open it again and activate google now and any other settings.
That's what I would try if I knew for sure that was it. I have the same phone and google is not a problem. There are some other great KitKat touchwiz Roms now. Wicked s5 experience is great. Its the one I'm using now. The lollipop Roms still have camera issues right now. There are literally dozens of Roms for us.
Conquest was one of the greats though. Check wakelocks and see if its indeed an app doing the damage.

I think things working ok just reinstalling google app and did clear cache and data and this all I needed was to keep this puppy running as if I do anything else in the future it will probluly be with a new G6 that boost just released maybe when goes on sales though

Well after still having problems with fast battery drain I did a factory reset and fixed some problems with some of the program loading errors and system is using less resources but still has slow charge and fast discharges going on so was trying to see it the KT Tweaker is causing problems and cant really get a handle on how to use it still. I tried setting it to default setting and trying some low power profiles now but no help. There does not seem to be any major bad apps running but is how can I get KT Tweaker working right or how can I uninstall it as its no use to me. Kinda lost now on what to do next before I smash phone against nearest wall and get another G3. I have the Wicked-S5-Xperience-v2.2 d/l so I would install that if need be assuming just need to flash rom to my current setup.

Well the battery drain problem is back and its seems to be from using a few apps thats temp going up and I can feel phone getting warmer as phone is losing power.

Also the Android Systems is taking main part of the drainage at 32% which is associated with a ton of functions so no way to force it to turn off.

I believe one app is causing the problem and why I want to find it as if I get another phone it will most likely be another G3 and would be setup same as my current phone which could end up having the same drainage problem

I finally have all my drainage problems fixed and still using Wicked-S5-Xperience-v2.2 as my default system.
I setup KT Tweaker to default setup and even though there are setting listed elsewhere I am happy as the these setting give a half day and still have 40% battery power and with new charger and cable phone charges up fast so this will hold me over until I get an upgraded phone.

Did anyone figure this out? I have been trying to troubleshoot this for about a year!! I have an external charger and I rotate between two batteries. Even the external charger says the battery is fully charged but when I put it in the phone it drops to 50-60%. I had the USB port fixed (since that stopped working) and I still have bad battery drain. I have not done a factory reset yet but it appears that doesn't help anyway. I do the cache wipe partition and that never helps either.

This setup still working for me but it was a pita getting new phone setup with all my apps and email accts. In fact I can go a day without needing recharge and its charging super fast all the problems seem to be gone and not messing with phone these days now that its working ;)
