People really need to have some patience. This phone is brand new and everyone expects technology to be completely seamless and perfect on release. Hero is a great product, and yes it has a few issues, but as a launch device, its fantastic. Things like this take time, and sofar, the advantages of the hero with android along with its potential, vastly surpass that of any other phone/os combination on the market right now. go get a WM6.5 phone and go be disappointed and pray 6.5.1 fixes things. how about an Iphone on a crappy overpriced network , a phone with blatant shortcomings, and a sheep like following of people who enjoy being hoodwinked, or you can get a blackberry and suffer from a lack of a touchscreen( i dunno how some people do it) , but an overall good device. Patience is a virtue with technology.

You may be right and any problems could be bugs that can be fixed. There are millions of lines of programming code in these phones programmed by people that are not infallible. I just got burned on the Blackberry Storm and like so many drooled for 8 months over each leaked software upgrade in the hopes that it would fix the huge number of problems. I spent a tremendous amount of fruitless time until I decided to sell it on eBay and try the other offerings out there.

I told myself I would be diligent about my next phone and not get all emotional about it, as so many do and I have a history of (phones, phone brands, and wireless services).

I do not have a Hero and freely admit that it could be just fine in the long run. I had a myTouch that has a lot of the same components and when I see videos of some of the same problems I had starting to emerge for the Hero, it is definitely reason for pause and enough to make me wait for the next option.

But I was asked my opinion so I gave it.

The me-now expectation level of our society is sickening. Like really...its not enough HTC makes a very good device; its all about zeroing on what the phones doesn't do at an elite level. Not a bad rate. Not a mediocre scale.

Yes, because the Hero doesn't have a 18378292+ processor chip, let's all complain about it. Threaten to take the phone back two weeks after its released. Blah..blah...blah...

So typical of society...

The point of this thread is whether or not the Hero is any good, it is whether or not to try something else. I am not bagging on the Hero as much as I am suggesting that if the poster is experiencing problems on their new phone, each carrier must allow for returns and the poster has the opportunity to try all of the phones out there and come back to the Hero at some point in the future if it is the best one. I then stated my experience with a similar phone and some reasons why upcoming phones may be better and gave examples.

So if I am understanding you correctly, you saying that the poster has made their purchasing decision already and should deal with it and accept the sluggishness.

That is another way to go. Perhaps they will agree with you instead.

yes i probably, did. Quite expertly if i do say so myself. but you have to understand, they are DIFFERENT phones. not an apples to apples comparison.
:D

I give you that - and the Hero may be the most bad a$$ Android phone for the next 5 years, I am not saying it is not, especially since people use them differently. The law allows users trial periods for phones and service and I suggest that michaelkahl take advantage of that if they are unhappy or have questions in their mind, nothing more.

Likewise michaelkahl needs could differ from others' in an apples and oranges comparison... and who knows, perhaps I had a poorly programmed widget with a memory leak and it wasn't the phone, processor, or memory at all... I would (and am) still trying other phones until I know I am getting the most suitable phone for my needs :D

i did the same thing. I tried the Pre out and although i was happy with many facets of the phone ( especially the OS), but the hardware didnt feel as solid , nor was battery life remotely as good as my hero. I considered a tour, but i like having a touchscreen. Of course the pre and hero were pretty much the sole reasons for coming to sprint.

Although I really wanted to, I felt bad trying out the Hero on Sprint since I had tried the Pre and returned it. I had an Android phone previously and it was so much fun the Pre seemed to get old within a week. I didn't realize how important the apps had become to keeping the phone fun and fresh.

apps were one of the reasons i moved over. Pre was a really great device that seamlessly integrating into my life, yet the battery was a huge hindrance along with the lack of applications. Apps just add flexibility and often give you ideas on things you can do to make life easier.

I've been very impressed with Android market so far. No real complaints here, and tbh Apple's market is just over saturated with to many bad apps. There are great ones, but there are also a lot of bad ones. With 80,000+ apps it's easy to find enough good ones to fill your phone with, but it gets annoying.
