Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

You really mean, Clean Channel. What a joke. When they take one curse word out of a Steve Miller Band tune, you know that on the digitized airwaves, we are far behind other countries.

I understand about good morality, and I tried to raise my kids between the '90s to the New Millenium with respect for their elders, and taught them that cursing was not allowed in our home.

Meanwhile, back at the Disney ranch, their cartoons went to PG ratings, and flatulence was the 'in' thing. So, I explained to my kids that words like those were a part of adult culture, and out of respect for myself and their mother, they shouldn't speak that way at home.

Ah, Catholic School and parents raised during The Great Depression programmed me very well. All of my childhood friends had younger parents, so, it was a treat to say the word 'fart' while visiting their homes.

So, I kinda caved in with my kids.

Clear Channel...

If you read that article I linked, it shows their hypocrisy even more when you see what they were up to while sanitizing the airwaves for our protection.

What makes me sick about these parental advisory, pc type groups is, they forget just how vicious, brutal and unforgiving life truly is, outside of their little bubble in fantasy land. I figure if I can watch a real live plane, purposely crash into a real live building, then watch that building crumble to the ground on TV, I should be able see a pair of blouse bunnies, or hear a word that is considered vulgar on TV as well.

Just my view on this subject. There isn't a person alive who has to agree with me.

You bring up a great point! I watched a wonderful documentary about the MPAA (the organization that rates movies in America) and it explained the terrible hypocrisy of how they judge films. American pie can show a guy with his junk in a pie and get pg13 but if a film maker wants to show two love bound partners being sensually intimate, it's NC17 Town for you!

We placed radio ads on a couple of Christian networks. They took exception to a spot that ended with fairy (Tinkerbell) magic.
Their traffic editor replaced the magic segment of the ad with a gunshot!

Then I feel sorry for the human race and decent society
I'm a pacifist through and through, but I've finally accepted that human nature is flawed and lacks a certain survival instinct, in terms of big picture, and violence is very much a part of our genes. Violence has been an integral part of human history since the very beginning, and the notion that we could ever really overcome that and do away with war and fighting is just plain silly to me.

It will never happen. War will never be abolished until we kill ourselves out. But it doesn't mean we can't still work towards LESS violence. I feel LOCALLY is where change will happen, but overall, not globally

Then, perhaps, it's time to evolve.

The human race is a vile, wretched, pathetic species. As the toker said, peace will only come when there are no more people. It's an extremely sad fact that humanity and peace can not coexist. There will always be those who want to kill others that are not quite like themselves. Whether it's over skin color, land , religion, sexual orientation or any of the other thousands of ridiculously petty, insignificant differences people bicker over.

It is the same reason that sports will never be eliminated.

Personally, I love sports. I have had arguments over the years with fellow coworkers and college classmates, who hate sports, especially football and hockey. Their argument is that sports is completely useless, and add no value to society. My counter argument is that humans, by nature are competitive and war like, and without sports, there would be a lot more violence. My feeling is that rooting for a sports team is a way for people to release aggression. Because of a sports team, 'hate' a team (example...as a Washington Capitals fan, I hate the Pittsburgh Penguins), but not the people.

Just my two cents.

When my kids had Nintendo Game Boys back during their 'tweens', they played a Sims game where the character had to avoid evil chickens.

They called them 'werechickens'. It cracked me up.

Memories. LW

As far as I see humanity: we might as well be in a coma on life support. Until an outside force pulls the plug.
