Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Having a sneeze that does not manifest. THE WORST
Russel Crowe. - Not bad in Man of Steel...one of the redeeming qualities, in fact.
The idiots who did not not think Rickey Henderson should have gone in to the hall of fame. Who is Rickey Henderson?
Superhero movies. I'll agree with you on the current DC run, but the Marvel movies are all awesome(even Iron Man 3 :P )
Remakes. Certainly.
Peoples who cross against the light. I just jaywalk(during the one time a year I walk somewhere).
Bleu cheese. Never tried it, but I imagine it's awful.
Rap. Amen.

Can I add:

People who drive slow
People who park poorly
Bruno Mars
Reality TV
American Idol(rot in hell, stupid show).

People who chew loud things near me.
People who don't turn off the key press sound on their phone.
People who bring their laptops to meetings & type (loudly) during the meeting, answering emails & not paying attention to the meeting.
People who don't like it when I touch their computer screen when I'm helping them. (I can't help it I'm a tactile person, lol)
Mean people.

I'm with you on most of those, especially the stupid key press sounds on the phone, but don't touch the computer screen!! :p

But... I even gave her (a coworker) a brand new thingy of screen cleaner to wipe off my prints! I seriously can't help it, I do it to people without even realizing it & by the time they say "hey!" it's too late

Well, if you supply the screen cleaner you're forgiven. :p
I see so many computers where the screen is one greasy blob, that would drive me insane.
You can point AT the screen without actually touching it, you know. ;)

I can't! I've tried to be good, but my finger just ends up on the screen, it's a sickness...
Maybe if my arms were tied to my sides? But then I couldn't really get any work done :p:D

P.S. - I gave her the screen cleaner a few months ago & even reminded her that she has it, but she hasn't even used it. I think I'm going to keep on smudging until she finally cracks that baby open.

Eat something sticky/gooey before teaching her the next thing...

The Dutch interwebz were down shortly today. The Amsterdam internet exchange (main hub in backbone) was down. Can't remember that happening ever before.
According to the NSA in the United States, hacking of sites worldwide has reached an all-time high.

I don't completely trust what I see or read in American news, but George Noory on Coast To Coast AM brought up a tidbit that I find believable:

Due to the Internet getting overcome with streaming services, like Dish Anywhere, it doesn't surprise me that multiple servers are going down on a regular basis.

Without enough bandwidth, many Internet services that we take for granted can become affected.

So, more satellites, cell towers, and the like need to be increased in their ability to encode/decode communications - to the fastest that it can be.

Just like CPUs have become speedier, the same goes for the World Wide Web. It needs to be able to continue to keep up, as the bandwidth demand grows. Cool Kaat, I hope that your part of the world is back online, and may everyone's weekend be a pleasant one - LW

It only lasted for half an hour.

I noticed speed dropping dramatically once before though. That time it took a while lot longer for the connections to reroute. 9-11.

HP printers.

I'm never buying another HP product for as long as I live.

Once again I discover that my inkjet is the type that simply will not print a b&w page unless all of the color cartridges are full - no workarounds, no exceptions.

I've hated this thing since I got it.

I still have my old HP 990c It never failed. Remanufactured ink cartridges are cheap. I'm using that until I get a new printer. olbriar mentioned a Brother last time I complained about this.

I'm going with that.

Well...Epson isn't all that either...I have one...won't allow you to get the most out of your cardridges. When Epson tells you it's empty you'd better replace it otherwise no more prints...it won't even try.

I have a couple of HP mono lasers. I can sympathize. We had a big HP color laser at work and it absolutely had a fit about printing from Adobe Illustrator. Take forever to do one page. CMYK just like earlier deskjets. Illustrator is a vector standard, and HP should be able to work with it.

I haven't used a newer HP inkjet in a long time, but I've had large problems with garbled garbage in the print queue. Pages and pages of it - sometimes leading to uninstalling and reinstalling the printer.

How much do you print? If a lot of photos there is a continuous flow ink system.

Inkjet printers are designed to waste ink, because that's where the money is. It's a better investment (usually) to pay a little extra upfront for a laser printer.

My Samsung's lasted three times longer than any inkjet I've ever owned.
That's it, original manufacturer inkjet ink is probably one of the most expensive liquids you can buy that's generally available. More expensive than Chanel No. 5.

I just print the occasional black and white document - WifelyMon is the reason I got this printer.

And I did not know that about continuous ink systems - and there is a nice selection for my printer.

THANKS! :)

Yeah.

And on that theory, I bought a full color Canon laserjet.

Which led me back to an HP inkjet. :D :D

Absolutely. $50 for a genuine HP 45 black cartridge - or two from Amazon for $12.

And the CIS route is equally dirt cheat by comparison. Complete setup for about the same as full set of 6 lower capacity catridges. And then the ink is way cheap.

I know nothing about CIS; however I am going to have to look into that-- laser printers aren't going to do card stock unless one is willing to go high-end.

Dngrswife likes to use card stock for some of her projects.
