Hello and welcome to Android Forums akkh99! :)

Judging from your firmware details, you are on either Ukraine, (Kyivstar), or Uzbekistan stock Samsung, 4.3, firmware.

There are a number of reasons that you may not be able to update OTA or via Kies as explained in #1.4 of post #1. As explained in that section, you should take your phone to the nearest Samsung Service Point and request them to update you to Android 4.4.2.

Alternatively, for competent users, you can download and flash the stock Samsung firmware for your phone as per #1.5 in post #1.

Apologies if this is stated elsewhere in this forum but I have been trying to find this for over a month with no luck.

I'm in the UK, my carrier is Vodafone. I have an international Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 (AP: 19505XXUGNE8, CP:I9505XXUGNE8, CSC: I9505VFGGNE2, Baseband i9505XXUGNE8).

Samsung recently upgraded my firmware in their Service Centre to fix a black screen of death issue. Since upgrading me to 4.4.2 I now have the common issue of a battery drain, but the more annoying issue is the wi-fi and bluetooth interference (i.e. where it won't connect to either). I have tried several fixes suggested on forums such as deactivating the sleep mode, deleting the cache in storage settings, deleting the cache via the reboot mode, pulling the battery. Occasionally if the battery goes dead, I might get wifi, but then if it goes dead again I don't know how many times I have to try all of the above before it decides to work.

My point is, I'm pretty fed up to say the least. Are there any firmer dates on when the 4.4.3 version for the 4.4.2 bug fixes (or even 4.4.4 dare I say it) will be released for my phone???

As I don't have wi-fi I have Kies but no update on there :-(
Thanks

Hello and welcome to Android Forums bellchel! :)

Issues that you are describing are usually found after upgrading, for a variety of reasons, as shown in #1.0 of the Update Problems - Dummies Guide.

You are on the latest, N8, firmware release for Vodafone UK and 4.4.4 is not expected for carrier release for awhile.

You seem to have done most of the recommended procedures in the guide apart from running in Safe Mode to check if the battery drain is caused by firmware or rogue apps/settings. As for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection problems, I cannot comment as I have not personally used the N8 build. You could try starting a specific thread on the subject to see if anyone else on N8 is getting this.

Failing all else, return the handset to the Samsung Service Centre and explain your problem to them and see what they say. If you are not worried about warranty, you could flash another firmware as per #1.5 in post #1.

Thank you so much for your speedy response (and nice to see you're in the same part of the world as me- also in Cotswolds!).

I forgot to mention I have tried running in safe mode but still had the same issues. I read somewhere that 4.4.3 was due to be released this month due to fix the bugs on 4.4.2, is this true and if so, have there been any more formal dates released? If not, I will have to return it to the Service Centre again. Concerned about using Odin but if Samsung won't release ODA and the Service Centre won't help then I may have to flash another firmware, but knowing my luck it will make it worse. I'm still within the 2 year manufacturer warranty. Vodafone have been no help

It is looking like Android 4.4.3 will be skipped in favour of the more secure 4.4.4 which I am on. No confirmed dates for 4.4.4 but I expect it to start rolling out this month. It may take a while for carrier branded models to be released. Flashing a new firmware is relatively easy and so long as you keep your Version details for Vodafone, you can flash back again.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums rkitin! :)

From your description it looks as though the handset was originally carrier locked and has at some stage, possibly prior to sale, been unlocked. Then by flashing a firmware it has, as often happens, re-locked itself again. You will need to get it un-locked, either at a mobile phone shop or by using one of the methods available on the web.

Hi, i read your post and i really enjoyed it. Have you heard of this GS4 variant SGH-S970G? This is from tracfone a variant of the t- mobile SGH-M919 GS4. If you would like more info please feel free to ask :)

Thanks micallan_17!

I have amended the thread title accordingly.

Forgive me if I do not get excited about the release of the SGH-S970G. It is yet another U.S. carrier branded, minority variant, of the worlwide Samsung Galaxy S4, which was released late last year for Tracfone. This handset has taken the title of, "Oldest Android firmware on a Galaxy S4", by having the old Android 4.2.2, MH3, firmware, (according to SamMobile)...

Model: SGH-S970G
Model name: GALAXY S4 LTE
Country: Unknown
Version: Android 4.2.2
Changelist: 1348334
Build date: Wed, 14 Aug 2013 07:45:34 +0000
Product Code: TFN
PDA: S970GUDUAMH3
CSC: S970GTFNAMH3
MODEM: S970GUDUAMH3

This phone, in common with other U.S. minority variants, comes with its own heavily modified, (by the carrier), firmware and added bloatware which should ensure that, "bugfix", updates are few and far between... if at all. :(

Thanks ironass, I do hope that tracfone might update the device soon since the current firmware on it does not allow for sim unlocking, however with the new unlocking law in the US Tracfone is forced to provide unlocks and the only way for the unlocks to work is to update the firmware to accept those unlock codes. I think this is true since I know people working for tracfone and they have provided an unlock code for my gs4, the code works but everytime you reboot it asks for the unlock code again. So in order to avoid that, tracfone needs to update there firmware or at least update the basedband.

Hi. I have an I9505 on Android version 4.3 with the following codes:

AP: I9505XXUEND1
CP: I9505XXUEND1
CSC: I9505TELENC1

I have moved from Australia to the US on AT&T. The device is rooted, only because I wanted to be able to backup the device using Titanium.

I'm starting to have some instability, and thought it might be a good time to just upgrade to 4.4. While I'm at it, is there anything I should change now that I'm on AT&T's network instead of Telstra's? Should I use a different baseband? Different CSC? Don't really know exactly what the hell I'm talking about. Can someone point me to the right file(s) to use for my circumstances?

Thanks!

Hi ironass,

I recently bought an S4 - GT-I9500 and the first day I had it during the night it downloaded Lollipop automatically. installed it but ever since it's been soooo slow! I decided the other day to see if I could downgrade and after scouring the net and seeing if it was possible I got all the things I needed and did it. Back to Kitkat
Now, the phone is not seeing my SIM card and I get a prohibition sign on the right top where the signal strength is supposed to be. Also when I check my IMEI number it's saying IMEI null/null.

When dialing *#1234# this is what I get:
AP: I9500XXUGNH2
CSC: I9500OJVFNG1 and that's it.

When dialing *#0011# to get into service mode it's blank too.

Really don't know what to do now....any suggestions

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Benjamin88 :)

The i9500 is the non 4G/LTE, octa core variant of the Galaxy S4.

The OJV CSC code is for Middle East firmware, possibly Saudi Arabia or UAE and is for KitKat. This is the firmware that you flashed to your phone. It does not tell me what your original firmware was. Do you know your original firmware, "Version", details were, as per #1.3?

Are you able, over Wi-Fi, to install, "Phone INFO ★Samsung★", free from the Play Store, as this will show you a lot more information, such as...

Knox Warranty under General

Original CSC code numder CSC Code

Hardware/Board under Hardware

IMEI under Personal

Alternatively, you could try flashing your, "original", Lollipop firmware back to the phone to see if that helps.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, the firmware should be Saudi Arabia. It's the closest one I found.
This is my first Samsung so unfortunately I didn't check the original firmware version before flashing it.

I have downloaded Phone INFO now, this is what I see:

Know Warranty - 0x1
Original CSC code - KSA
Hardware/Board - universal5410 [32-bit]
IMEI - [MOD REDACTED FOR PRIVACY] (this does not match the one on the cover behind the battery?)

Hope this helps. Is there a way to change my IMEI number or is that dependent on the firmware loaded?

Well, at least your phone does not appear to be a fake/clone phone Benjamin88

It is never a good idea to post your IMEI # on an open forum and I have asked our kind, friendly, helpful, Mods to remove it for your own protection.

What does concern me is the mismatch and disappearance of your IMEI #. The phone has had the Knox Warranty flag tripped, thus indicating that it has previously been rooted and had a custom ROM.

If I were a suspicious person, I would wonder if this phone was either stolen or blacklisted by the carrier for non payment of contract and has had the IMEI # changed, which is illegal.

How did you come by the phone?

None of the kind/friendly/helpful ones were around, but I went ahead and removed the IMEI from the post. :thumbsupdroid: :D

Hi. I'm writing this hoping to find a solution.

I rooted my S4 some months ago and since my device is acting weird. Device restarts sometimes when the screen sleeps, the Home screen(TouchWiz Home) freezes randomly when turned on and Restart when turned on after sleep randomly, specially when a call comes after its sleep and answered.

Device : Samsung Galaxy S4
Model: GT-I9505

AP: I9505XXUGNJ1
CP: I9505XXUGNJ1
CSC: I9505TNZGNJ1
Android Version : 4.4.2
Device Status: Custom(Official before root)

Please ask if anymore info is needed and tell how to find them... Still nOOb! Lol

Thanks in advance!

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Dulshan :)

You have the international model of the Galaxy S4, GT-i9505, with stock unbranded Samsung firmware for New Zealand, TNZ, which is on the latest version, 4.4.2, on the NJ1 release.

I do not know which method you used to root your phone but you could try wiping your cache partition as per #1.3 of S4 Lollipop Update Problems - Dummies Guide, (this applies to not just Lollipop), and see if that helps. Depending on your root method, a Factory Data Reset might be needed as per post #2 of the guide.

You could try re-rooting by carefully and thoroughly reading the instructions in Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide

Thanks and nopes still happens.

I used Odin to Root as a file called "CF-Autoroot-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5" as the PDA. That's all.

And another thing. After root there was a app called "SuperSU". I used it's "Un-root" feature unroot it when I discovered the problem. But the problem was still there. I even used a app to make sure its unrooted. It was but the problem was still there.

I read few articles and I found one saying that it may cause due to using wrong ROM to root the device causing it to overuse CPU and blah blah... will it turn to normal when I install a "Stock ROM"(Doesn't really know what those are)?

Please help! Thanks again.

That looks like the correct CF-Root kernel. You could try the Factory data reset or downloading and flashing, via Odin3, the stock Samsung firmware for your phone, see below, by following the instructions and video contained in the link #1.5 of post #1. You could then try re-rooting again, using the Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide.

Model GT-I9505
Model name GALAXY S4 LTE
Country New Zealand
Version Android 4.4.2
Changelist 2309103

Do I have to Unroot before Rooting again? And is "Samsung Kies" a must? And can my device Upgraded to Android Lollipop? If can do I need to upgrade before rooting again?

You could then try re-rooting again, using the Rooting Galaxy S4 - Dummies Guide.

This post contains the same file I mentioned right? What will happen if I does it again?

Well I'm stuck. The Philz Touch thing sites are down, I cant download it... I just need to stop this restart thing, how can do it? Please help.
