Root How to disable that damn system write protection

One more thing would it be possible to use this app to be able to have both partitions be able to boot twrp
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.graffixnyc.m8recoveryswitcher
You could use that app to flash your boot.IMG to the recovery partition for system rw but using the switchers is much better because using that app will leave you with no recovery installed while you have rw access. This would make it much more difficult to fix your phone if you mess something up.

@Masterchief87 if I root can I put a stock mpcsrom on the t-mobile version of the zmax kinda like you were able to with the Samsung avant great work in that area by the way cause t-mobile is telling me they won't send unlock code cause I'm not an t-mobile account holder but if it was a mpcsrom my Sim would register right?
Its hard to say. With the avant you had to flash the whole firmware in order to accomplish this not just the ROM. You can try but idk if it will work. You might just have to buy an unlock code for it to work.

This is probably the wrong thread for me to ask this question but how do I achieve perm root? I just got my Zmax today, and I absolutely love it. I used kingroot 4.1 and got temp root and I tried trwp to root but su wouldn't install, help would be very much appreciated.

Phone Carrier: MetroPCS
Software Version: 4.4.4

OK get temp root and verify you have it using root checker. Then use temp root to install the zte zmax twrp that's in this forum. Then install it. If you have twrp and you can reboot to it then flash the 4.4.4 butternoob ROM that's pre rooted via twrp or flash any of the 5.1.1 roms I've made that are on this forum

Or flash supersu zip if u want to remain stock

I'm a bit confused on how to do ROM flashing. I'm not trying to sound noobish, but some step by step help would very much be appreciated so I don't screw anything up.

I tried flashing the ROM twice, and got bricked. Thankfully, I made a backup and restored my phone. I don't think I had a correct checksum I'll look more into a method soon.

are you trying to stay on kitkat?

It really doesn't matter. Maybe I could probably switch over to 5.1.0 as I heard there were some ROMS on that here on AF. I just need someone to possibly assist me in rooting this phone a easy way, not getting stuck into countless bootloops. Not sound noobish here though, I fixed bootloops on Zmax and Fierce 2 plenty of times. Just want to use xposed tbh.

First I just want to say thank you for making these zips. My question is I originally was on pacman 5.1.1 ROM and everything works great but now I am using AICP 5.1.1. So which zips do I use now
The ones for Ethanbanker2428's roms are on the Rom threads. The ones for AICP are on the AICP thread.

I was doing the same thing on my spare zmax. The problem was I flashed the switch then flashed the carbon ROM when I left twrp I got caught in a boot loop with no recovery. Read post #1 I think..... Rip spare zmax

Ok, so I used this method about two weeks ago succesfully, once I had the rw permissions, I realized I didnt quit know what I was doing, so I recovered my backup and stuck with the temp root doing this ans that while researching, I redownloaded the zips, checked the sums which matched, rooted the phone with king and verified root, opened twrp and I installed the recovery, thenthen rebooted recovery and installed the switcher and reboot into recovery again, the phone froze on the meteo screen, so I rebooted which brought up twrp, then I got scared I messed up so I imstalled the recovery and reboot to system, now I cant get off the metro screen, am I bricked?

Installed what recovery?

On twrp I installed recovery before I rebooted, I tnink thays where I went wrong, I can get back into twrp, but when when I flash either swt it aticks on the metro screen. Can I usb a factory backup, I have a backup, but its on my google drive

It's hard to know what you actually did because you aren't making any sense. Using incorrect terms and misspelling. How did you install recovery from within twrp? Twrp IS THE RECOVERY. What is swt? Aticks?

OK, sorry about that, I was full on freaking out and was using a cheap phone. I ended up grabbing the butternoob v2 zip and now I am fully rooted and about to waste a large amount of my life in bliss. Also just want to say I have been following you're threads for about a month, and while I am new to posting, you have been invaluable, also thanks to everyone involved in making this happen for everyone, a month ago I didn't even know this existed, perhaps my next post will be more intelligible, again thanks

I had to add some more stuff to the BIG RED BOLD WARNING in post #1 because apparently people are still finding new ways to brick their phones.

Not sure of this is a related question but it should be able to find an answer amongst this thread. For a fresh rom install, is it OK to wipe the system?
