Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Last night just before leaving work, my work pc screen started flickering the image above... now this morning I have to wait around for IT to figure it out. I hate sitting around with nothing to do at work, my entire job is using my pc.

All I know is how I was treated by PayPal via eBay. I see your point, @Gmash, but, that's still another service - even with monster SSL - that has your credit card information, who you are, where you reside, and whom you bank with.

In my opinion, we've all had quite enough of that.

I try not to buy many things online. Yet, the FastTech thing seemed really good, with wholesale prices. My lady and I, however, have found a location Stateside that takes online orders, and doesn't make you get another service involved to make a purchase. Best of all, they sell authentic products at really inexpensive prices. So, no more FastTech.

Problem solved.

I used a friend's paypal account. She posted some stuff for me. She was charged for the listing, each photo, and a percentage of the sale. She used a business account with no connection to her real account. She'd just put enough money in to cover a transaction.

I looked at Paypal once, found out all the info needed and told it to eff off. I will use it when Paypal allows the site to take regular credit cards - you can use Visa, MC rather than register.
 
Two day scenario:

Day 1) See an old friend of mine who I've always crushed on, one thing leads to another, and we are talking about wanting to be together. I'm planning a move in a week to the other side of the county and she wants to come along. Did I mention she is 6'? I'm 6'5", so that's VERY appealing.

Day 2) Different personality, suddenly obvious she likes beer to much, and the speed talking? That's probably speed.

At least it was only one day, not two wasted years. Still sucks.
 
I try to be a respectful poster, and I try to be helpful. I like it if I'm able to help someone on this forum or at least contribute to helping them.
A while ago, I read a post in which it was basically a weird rant about cloud storage and this poster referred to anyone reading this rant as "pea brains" and pea heads " lol

I just don't understand when people post things like that. It really upsets me.
First and foremost, we should always try to be respectful toward everyone, everywhere everyday.
Second, people who are not forum members read things like that and I can only imagine that negative stuff like that scares them away so we lose a potential member and someone may have to keep digging and looking to get help with a problem.
I've had my moments, but I try hard to treat others the way I'd like to be treated, not just on AF, but everywhere.

I tried to nicely tell this poster to be a little nicer and a little more tactful when posting and I tried to be respectful about it. I think the post was removed so I'm not sure if this poster will take my advice or not.
Which leads me to this...
It grinds my gears that people think that hiding behind a screen gives them the right to be a complete jackass........

Yes to both of these! Although (maybe it's just me) it's getting harder and harder to be nice in an ever-more-aggressive world. I work graveyard shift at a gas station and deal mostly with the homeless population. If there is anyone more down and out than someone who hasn't lived in a home in years, or some cases literally never, I haven't met them. But because the drugs are so bad here, and violence and crime are so rampant amongst the homeless, I'm getting to the point of hating them all. And that is NOT who I want to be...


As for our mods, I've accidentally crossed the line once or twice, and they respectfully private message me and discuss the matter. I love this community. You's guys rock :)
 
I look in the mirror and grind my own gears because I don't have what it takes to learn computers especially android.

Are you related to the Vulcan?

Early years of computing, he could write code. He could wire and fix a screwed up box. But I will be damned if he ever understood file formats and their usage. He still doesn't. He doesn't understand spam and crapware, either. He doesn't understand a smart phone or tablet and usually won't touch mine. He's got a flip phone.

The new project is showing him how to sideload Epubs on a Kindle.

Hang around here and read a lot. You will find quite a few answers, some in unlikely places. Most are really kind and can and will help with a problem. Eventually, things work.
 
Thank you zuben el genub. But this is my 6th or 8th Android and have like 1200 or something posts in here(many questions and even 1 or 2 answers) and still am not very comfortable rooting and roming. I have rooted 3 or 4 of them and have flashed a few roms but lately the terminology and proceedures seem as complicated as ever to me. I wish I had one good android book (*for dummies) to put with what the good people in here teach me.
Like I said, I have a habit of grinding my own gears.

Why are you rooting the phone? Is there a specific reason? I've rooted a couple - mostly to get rid of carrier bloat. I haven't bothered with the last phone since Color OS is pretty basic and efficient and lets you disable a lot. The main problem I had with rooting, was the ROM developers and reviewers just drooled over the thing. Never any word about the downside of the ROM. The same goes for new phones. I stuck to CM since it did have a good wiki that I could read and understand. I had a purpose and that filled it.

If you can find your specific reason for rooting, you might find something that makes sense. I've also seen some references around here about writing your own apps - might help about what does what. You have to spend time searching references - about 80% of which make no sense either, but sometimes just one idea or sentence will click. I've had that happen - the caveat is that it could take years for that AHA! moment. I've looked at YouTube videos and while watching one, have looked at the others listed on the side. Opening that vid, and looking on the right side of the screen, I have sometimes found a video that I can use, and it never seems to be referenced in a search.

You might never feel comfortable. I don't. The Vulcan, who is an engineer and has had a computer since way back, doesn't understand cell phones except for broadcast frequencies. He simply doesn't want to know and that's that. I'm curious about how things work and I like my way within reason. I think my first computer had a 540m hard drive. I still have the idea that you can never have enough processing power and storage. Phone bloatware that I don't need and won't use drives me crazy. I want all the storage!

You still know and understand more than the majority of Android users so pat yourself on the back.

I ask myself the same question: why root?
I guess the short answer is to build my confidence which I am sorely lacking.
Confidence like when I was a construction foreman for 25 years. I was the best at what I did.
Now I contribute nothing to anybody from my wheelchair.
I just want to be good at something again.
Originally, from the day I first saw a smartphone, I decided that's what I wanted to learn. I even thought I might design an app someday.
I'm 53 now, trying to find my calling. I am fascinated by these devices and really want to learn more about them.
I feel that I've only scratched the surface of these intricate objects.
But I don't think I want to Root this one anymore. Like you said, i can disable much of the bloat, and this thing is super quick right now. I think I'll pick me up another s4 or 5 and rent a computer and play with that without fear of bricking it.
Thank you for putting this issue in perspective for me.
