Help Google Play Services not Working :(

I have 2.5GB data unlimited talk text for $35, (Virgin)must be they grandfathered me in. Also hear starting tomorrow virgin will allow streaming on Pandora without affecting Data. My Moto G 3 arrives tomorrow so ill report once I put through its paces. Disappointed with Kyocera and Google for letting this phone Wither.

My Kyocera Hydro Icon (C6730) is now working.

Just as suggested I did the following steps
1) In Settings - APPS choose "all"
2) Find Google PLay Services (it's the puzzle piece)
3) Click "Uninstall updates"
4) try running gmail, or youtube or your affected app.
5) It will complain that it needs to "update google services in order to work"
6) Update the Google Play Services as it suggests
7) Open up gmail or youtube again. It might crash, but on the second and third etc opens it works just fine.

FIXED!

Note As of today (Oct 9th 2015) I have Google Play Sevices Version 8.1.15(2250156-034)

Hopefully that helps others.

What happens if you refresh or reboot? I have seen this work for my phone but a reboot kills it and even if I dont reboot ot crashes eventually.

I can already confirmed it will crash after a few times reopening google apps. It's not that simple of a fix. I am still testing my fix I am 90% sure this will work you will need root though.

My failed effort :( I could not get it working spending loads of hours on this... here is what i did Again it did not work

As always I am not responsible for what happens to your phone. If you do it, it is at your own risk.
To do this you will need some experience with android phones.
This might set your phone back to factory settings (mine did) back over everything!
This is also on my Hydro Icon phone. I am not sure about other phones.

What you will need

Root - (I used Kingoroot software)

Busy box - free (from store)

Flash Gordon - Free

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250555

Titanium backup - (I have paid version there is a free one from store)

gapps for 4.4.2 - http://opengapps.org/?api=4.4&variant=nano

Let Titanium backup use SU privileges

Tap menu > batch actions > under "freeze / deforst"

Tap run "free all user & system apps (USE FILTERS & EXTREME CAUTION)"

This can ruin your phone so do exactly what I say!!!!

TAP “DESELCT ALL”

Check the follow apps

Gmail

Google Play books

Google play games

Google play music

Google play newsstand

Google play services

Google play store

Google play services frame work

Google +

Hangouts

Maps

YouTube
Google account Manager
Google backup transport

After TB finishes the freeze batch

Install busybox
Grant it SU when promted

Open app and tap "install"

Install flashgordon.apk

(Make sure you allow apks from unknown sources to be installed in options you will also need a file browser to find it)

Open flashGordon
Grant it SU

Tap "select zip"

Locate your gapps zip

Click flash zip

Restart phone when prompted let android upgrade

then win?

(I don’t own any of the links provided)

Alright so I was able to get the older version of Google Play Services installed and prevent the dang thing from updating itself. I've rebooted a number of times and it doesn't seem to be updating. Unfortunately, you need root to do this.

Has information on the same problem and a guide to putting SuperSU on the phone. I followed the recommended answer there and it did not work for me...

I did the following... (on the Icon but it should work the same for the Vibe)

  1. Root your phone
  2. Install Terminal Emulator from the Play Store
  3. Uninstall updates for Google Play Services
  4. Download and install the last working version of Google Play Services
  5. http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ices-7-8-95-2113048-034-android-apk-download/
  6. Open Terminal Emulator
  7. In the Terminal Emulator type the following
    1. su
      1. A prompt will come up asking you to allow Terminal Emulator root access... Grant it
    2. mkdir /data/app/com.google.android.gms-2.apk
Having that directory there will prevent the auto updater from installing the newest google play services into that directory.

This is getting ridiculous. It's obvious this is a known-issue and it seems Google is doing very little to address it. Given that there seems to be root cause dicovered as well, it surprises me even more so that Google hasn't done anything (except for updating the apps that are lesser priority). But Gmail and Hangouts? Seriously? C'mon Google - fix your sht!!!

Guess things are always easier to break than they are to fix...smh

OK guys, got the Moto G 3 and its fantastic. $150 virgin. H20 proof, lollipop 5.1 5 inch screen 295 dpi. Best of all no bloat, no lumen tool crapware and Motorola will update to marshmallow. Highly recommend this phone if need to switch, God knows how long it will take for kyocera to get this fixed

not to mention the moto's are more kind about bootloader unlocking and rooting.

I really screwed up trying to fix the issue I ended up deleting my play store system app and play framework system app... If someone could please help me by uploading a zip with the system apps to get my phone up and running again :( as i can't even open up play store now.

I don't know if anyone is using Android Wear but you can add that to the list of Google apps that don't work.

Every time I reinstall the new play services app the wear app forgets my watches' information. It gets pretty annoying having to always factory reset my watch so that my phone can connect to it.

Also the app doesn't work at all with the newest google play services.

Oh no, maybe TroyFoxxin can help, I don't have laptop currently working, but I seem to remember he helped someone out in similar bind

p.s.
Will warn that I will not be able to provide Vibe support for very much longer.
I don't use the phone anymore and plan to try to sell it.

I am having all of these problems with my hydro vibe and I am also having a problem with my phone pairing with my ford sync system. It keeps not connecting with my sync system and this has the same time frame as the google problem. Anyone else noticed this problem? I think it is a strange coincident.

I had just gotten off he phone with All these people. Google seemed to know just what I was talking about. Then that guy pawned me off to Kyocera in which I could barely make out hat she was saying. After all the waiting I did with Google then with Kyocera the women tells me they "have worked" on a fix and now it's boost mobiles problem. Now I'm going to assume when she said "have worked" ment are working, in her terrible English. She told me he couldn't even give me so much as an estimated time on when this will get fixed! So I said to her so let me get this right I completely 100% rely on this phone including Google maps for daily life. Your telling me that this "fix" could be days, weeks, months, or even years before it happens. She told me she doesn't know what to tell me. Then without my asking and it of know where transfered me to the boost mobile hotline! Like screw you type of deal.... wtf. I also have tried everything I downgraded google play services and it got play music to work but nothing else. Google maps continue to crash and what's even worse is every ten seconds my phone asks me o update it back with no way to stop it. If you reboot it upgrades right back lol. This is so frustrating it's funny! I absolutely need Google maps this is crazy. I feel like with out them actually saying it their telling me to buy a different phone. I can't f'in do that case and point why I bought this phone cause it was cheap. This is insane! How do we just fix this on our own? I'm kinda tech savvy.... I'm sure with instruction I could figure out anything. We need Savior here!!! Lol

100% correct. I have looked all over the internet for answers and it seems that the issue targets only the Kyocera Hydro Vibe.

I too have the Virgin Mobile provider.

I have cleared cache, rebooted device, and even factory reset the device but I still get crashes on most of the Google apps (Gmail, Hangouts, YouTube, Google Play Music, Drive).

no-targeted me too- i have the regular hydro (not the vibe) and its got me too., and Boost Mobile (Sprint).

Kyocera Twitter page indicates that a fix may arrive in the coming weeks. Which likely means many weeks if at all. At least Kyocera should unlock bootloader and allow lollipop rom but instead they keep it locked. They want this phone dead it seems

Try this. It worked for me as a way to use the affected apps. Set the Play Store to not update apps automatically. Then uninstall updates to the affected apps. They should work. Whenever you are prompted to manually update the apps, ignore the Google apps that are problematic. They won't work if you update thenm. The apps will be in their original factory installed state, but they will be functional. That's the most reasonable work around I think.

This problem is going to grow progressively worse, and confusing, with the Google apps.

For example, the latest version of Google Play Music, which was just released, now requires Version 8.1.15 of Google Play Services. But even if you update both Google Play Music and Google Play Services to their latest versions, Google Play Music will not work on the Hydro Vibe anymore.

So unfortunately, what this suggests is that any updated versions of Google apps (e.g. Gmail, Hangouts, Maps, YouTube) that are coming probably will not work on the Hydro Vibe.

I picked up a used LG Volt for $60. But I'll still stick around here hoping to find a solution because in all good conscience I wouldn't feel right selling my Hydro Vibe until this major issue has been fixed. Or, I may want to give it to a friend. Otherwise I'll keep it and use it as a mini tablet -- web browser, media player, camera.

This didn't work for me. In Step 7, I wasn't able to create this folder under Terminal Emulator. I couldn't create a folder with this name in the device main directory. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I cannot seem to create any folder. I'm using a Hydro Vibe.

Kyocera Hydro vibe. Same problems. I uninstalled all Google updates and unchecked notifications boxes. Only prob is that some other apps won't perform certain function unless I update play services.

I spoke with Kyocera today and, officially, they are still saying that a fix is in the works and that we should wait for an update to be released. They don't have a timeframe. That's the official word, and I'd like to believe it, but I don't know.
