Help Google Play Services not Working :(

I can confirm the new version of drive is working with the newest version of google play services... I just had to uninstall and reinstall it. Sadly i don't really care about drive :(

I use drive occasionally, fully agree that music, emai etc. Are more important. Google must have quite the mess on its hands essentially introducing dirty coding into THE most crucial app for android and Google to run its most popular apps while trying to launch pay. Reminds me of back in the day( yeah im old) when Coca cola decided to change its recipe it hugely backfired ticked off huge portion of their customers and had to re-introduce the original recipie under the name "classic coke". The big leson, if it aint broke DONT fix. Google should have left wallet alone, and just refined update it.

Agreed... were that many people even *using* Google Wallet to begin with? Personally, I think I tried it once or twice but found more novelty in it beyond actually wanting to use and depend on it. If it ain't broke, and especially if not many ppl are using it now, why make such huge changes? Very risky...

I used wallet to send money to family members, never tried NFC payments though. For a brief time android pay worked on my vibe, I think after reboot and version 038 of play services( later crashed of course) the only card it would accept was AMEX so I registered it at wich time AMEX thought it was fraud and froze my account, had to call cc company to verify ot was me, turns out Google charged $1 to register the card, AMEX stopped it but Google tried 3 times. What a pain, wont be using pay for while seems like its still in Beta

Here's a link I suggest bookmarking to check every day -- it lists all the the versions of Google Play Services you can download.

So far, Google has not released a Version 8.1.18 that would work on our phones. (Such a version would have an -03*, where * is another number.) However, this doesn't guarantee that 8.1.18 would work on the Hydro Vibe when (if) Google releases a version that should work on it. (None of the 8.1.** versions have worked correctly on the Hydro Vibe.)

The last known version that works on the Hydro Vibe is 7.8.99.

As of late, APKMirror has been providing the latest versions of 8.1.18 when they appear out in the wild.

I only use Google Wallet to store my rewards cards. It's really helpful for that! -- I used to carry a bunch of store rewards cards in my real wallet, and now don't need to anymore.

Android Pay also lets you store and use your rewards cards, but I could only get the app to work a few times before it would crash or lock up. The last version of Google Wallet, before it was discontinued, does not work on Google Play Services 8.1.15 running on the Hydro Vibe.

Everything went to hell for the Hydro Vibe thanks to the Google pushing out Android Pay and Google Play Services 8.1.15, which Android Pay requires.

Google destroyed wallet for one of the few affordable phones that has NFC capability. They are all about pushing out their latest nexus and abandon every other device that is not new. If you read reviews for pay, you even see Nexus owners with relatively new phones who cant run pay due to compatibility issues. I am also quite annoyed at sites like Android police and authority who dont report any of this, shame on them too.

What we really need (for now) is a way to keep Google Play from auto-updating - but there does not seem to be a way to do that.

Right now I would rather being using an Amiga then android! much more stable!
Amiga, thats old school stuff there, but yeah rock solid..currently slew of new updates, YouTube being latest but still crashing, I had trouble downloading apk with chrome browser but stock browser got it done. I did get YouTube working briefly by attempting to open it as apk is installed, it works until you refresh things then back to CRASH!

Head overto Twitter, supposedly Kyocera has solution if you call their number. Called it could not understand fully what rep said but sounded like carrier, in my case Virgin would be pushing an update.

I hope this update is considered for the freedompop hydro icon....
The number is 800-349-4478 i might try giving it a ring during the week...

You can see all the people on Twitter who are upset with Kyocera about the Hydro Vibe:

Maybe Kyocera is trying to fix this themselves by pushing out a new version of the Android OS (which may still be 4.4).

LMFAO! The Kyocera Twitter page looks fairly pitiful right now. At this rate and sice they're working with Google, they might as well prepare a Lollipop or Marshmallow update for us and call it a day.

True that. Does anybody know what this supposed workaround is. I called the number but honestly couldn't understand what the heck the kyocera rep was getting at..wouldn't at all be surprised if we are already implemented the "workaround" what a cluster #?/+ this has been.

This is also affecting the Kyocera Hydro Icon which runs on the FreedomPop service.

And it's not just Kyocera phones that have gotten screwed by this -- the LG G3 is another phone affected.

There could be dozens of Android phones out there that are failing to work properly now with Google apps. They may all be on versions of Android older (4.3 and 4.4) than Lollipop, and have NFC capability. Google Play Service 8.1.15 could have compatibility issues with this specific configuration (Android 4.3/4.4 + NFC).

Ok, didn't know about G3, thats a nice phone. For what its worth I've left 1 star reviews for all apps affected, they truly earned it. Not familiar with freedom pop how does services compare with sprint, virgin and the like?

Their "workaround" is to uninstall updates to any affected Google app (i.e. Drive, Gmail, Hangouts, YouTube, etc.), rolling it back to its stock version that originally comes with the phone, and then switching off auto-updating of apps in the Google Play app.

The problem is, even the stock version of some of these apps no longer works on 8.1.15.

Here is virgins helpful advice when I inquired about updates

FreedomPop is another pay-as-you-go carrier. They use both (depending on where you are in the country) Clearwire and, like Virgin, the Sprint network.

Ok so their "workaround" is reading this forum. Why not just link this site, save call

This is the solution I figured out on my own when this whole problem started, and I'm certainly no tech expert. In fact it's what I tried explaining to multiple VM tech reps while they were unaware of the issue.

I wouldn't be surprised if sales for Kyocera's newest devices dropped for this reason. I refuse to pay for another month of Virgin Mobile until either I lose access to my work device or Kyocera fixes this issue. Basically every Hydro Vibe has been partially disabled and I'm surprised that nobody has started a class action lawsuit yet.
