Help Google Play Services not Working :(

So right now it looks like the latest version of Google Drive works with 8.1.15.

That appears to leave Android Pay, Gmail (and Inbox), Hangouts, and YouTube that need to be updated to work on the Hydro Vibe running Google Play Services 8.1.15. (Are there any other Google apps?)

Drive doesn't consistently work for me, a reboot or refresh kills it, also add google music to your list and oddly for me the system upgrade tab in virgin mobile account app trigers gservices crash

Google play services was updated 9/24/15. For me it fixed the VM account app which was crashing giving "unfortunately Google play services" error. Nothing else was fixed though, I tried music and YouTube, none working yet.

I have had the same issue as well, and it's so dumb that all the apps I love don't work but the worthless ones to me crash. I didn't call Kyocera or Sprint, however I called Google for support and they told me to call Kyocera. We'll have to contact either google or Kyocera again so they can get this garbage sorted out.
Having the same issue but I have the Hydro Icon

The fact that it appears Kyocera, Virgin and Google are pinning the blame onto one or the other, the cynic in me wonders if this will be fixed at all.

Technically, the blame squarely lies on Google. But now they are focused on Android Pay and getting Android 6.0 out.

Additionally, I don't see the Hydro Vibe for sale on the Virgin site anymore.

So I'm afraid to say that it looks like all three players here may be not at all concerned about this particular phone anymore.

I'm considering writing a polite email to Virgin, explaining this situation, and asking if they would grant me a discount code to buy a new phone, like the LG Tribute 2, which has similar specs to the Hydro Vibe but runs Android 5.1.

Tribute has only 1 ram vs vibe's 1.5, no nfc, no wireless charging and not water proof plus resolution screen is lower on tribute. Really for the money this phone has lots of features, hate to give it up an if I do likely switch carriers, since virgin has poor selection. Even Kyocera hydro wave is an inferior product vs vibe, has larger screen but less Ram lower screen res. I say give us lollipop or unlock bootloader and let us unleash this phone with cm12

Totally agree! We could start a Twitter campaign. The Hydro Wave to me is not an upgrade. The lack of RAM instantly turned me off. It's the same thing with the Moto G from Virgin Mobile. Sure, I get regular Android updates but the lack of features doesn't constitute a purchase. The Hydro Vibe would be awesome with a Lollipop update.

I wonder which would be easier and fastest for the companies involved to do: Google updating Google Play Services to resolve these issues; Google updating all the individual Google apps that are affected by this; or Kyocera moving Hydro Vibe to Lollipop.

But at this point, I think I would accept the following:

Google rolls back Google Play Services to 7.8.99 for the Hydro Vibe, and the phone no longer updates itself to 8.1.15 automatically on reboot.

Android Pay is rolled back to the last version of Wallet that worked.

If they do these two things, that would satisfy the vast majority of Hydro Vibe owners. But then we may have to accept that the Hydro Vibe will no longer be considered supported by Google for most updates in the future.

The sad thing is there are many phones with less capability running 5.1. Virgin mobiles entire line up (S5 excluded) have less ram, less screen resolution, less features than this phone. even so called upgrades amount to no more than glorified phablets, ie stylo, zte max, etc. To get the features this phone has you have yo move up to galaxy s5

UPDATE: There's now a version 8.1.18 of Google Play Services -- however, the one that is currently available on APKMirror is for Android 6.0. Is 8.1.18 about to be sent out to fix all these issues (which have been affecting other phones, too)? Look for this version number or higher when your Vibe automatically updates.

Good info, hopefully we get a working version soon

I have automatic updates turned off in the Play Store. Will I get the update to Google Play Services if/when it becomes available? Do I need to do something manually?

This week has been horrible for my phone. Actually, my wife and I are suffering from the same issue with our Hydro Vibes. For some odd reason, Google Play services has decided that it will simply not cooperate. For instance, I can open Inbox, Hangouts, Calendar, Play Games, Play books, Photos and of course the Play Store but Wallet, YouTube, YouTube Gaming, Play Music and Google Drive all force close. I have performed two factory resets this week and nothing has helped. Even contacting Kyocera and Virgin Mobile left me with no positive result. Is anyone else having the same issue?
Advice that device is crap no good VM is crap too

Are others getting the same "Google Play Services" crash message for Google Maps? I thought Maps had been working for me during this mess, but today it won't work. GPS is on, but it says it can't find a GPS signal, then it tells me to turn on location services, and when I try to, it says Google Play Services has stopped working. Waze works, however.

You may have yo reset location services. It's a pain. First uninstall updates to play services. Then go to location services and switch it on and pick setting, ie. High accuracy, battery saving etc. Then reinstall play services and maps should work
