Paris Attacks

Unforgiven

...eschew obfuscation...
Administrator
I'm starting this thread here in the Lounge for folks to share stories about the horrendous attacks in Paris. This will be heavily moderated to keep it out of PCA.

AF is a worldwide forum and we may have many members of the AF family directly affected by this. Please keep wild speculation to a minimum out of respect for folks that may be directly affected by this.

Let's hope that the worst is behind us and offer condolences to the families of those lost.

I was just there a little over a week ago. :( There didn't seem to be much tension or overly prominent security presence, beyond the usual stuff in the popular areas (Notre Dame, Louvre, etc.)

I am dumbstruck. :(
I know, I thought of you when I first started seeing the reports. :(

Forty lost souls so far. It is said in French media 100 people are held hostage in the theatre Bataclan.

Added: a fourth shooting, in Les Halles, a mall.

I hope every one will stay indoors in Paris, stay safe.
My thoughts are with you and all victims.

It is said there have been shootings in the Louvre and Centre Pompidou area as well now.

All the Dutch media are covering this drama.

State of emergency has been declared across France, all French borders are closed. Military troops are in Parisienne streets.

Anyone else think that this sort of timed action, in several places, is made possible by our wonderful smartphones?

Seven locations are confirmed:
- Bataclan (hostage is over, approx 100 plus 2 terrorists are killed)
- République
- Les Halles
- Trocadéro
- St de France
- Belleville
- Paris X

Horrible and sickening. I'm at work and getting the news in pieces on my phone, and it keeps getting worse. Please let it be over.

All I can say is I hope the powers that be realize it's time to do something, because they obviously haven't done enough so far. If they don't do something, our lives, or at least our livelihoods, will ebb away. But don't get me started on the powers that be.

It's not the phones, it's the people who use them. If you want to communicate, you will find a way. What did we do before cellphones?:p

Political views are welcome, we have a specific venue for that. As no one else did, I've made a thread for discussing opinions -

http://androidforums.com/threads/paris-and-terrorism.970066/

Please use it, unlike this thread and venue, Politics and Current Affairs is not heavily moderated. That's how our site admin wants it, thanks for working with us on this.

As for the tragedy, my deepest condolences to everyone affected by this insanity. :(

Aujourd'hui, je suis français. :(

My heart goes out to the bereaved and those still searching for their loved ones.

I've spent family holidays in Brittany, walked for weeks in the Pyrenees, and shared romantic weekends in Paris. A common factor throughout was the welcome and openness of the people. Proud of their nationality, their values of freedom and equality, and the right of everyone to exist as an individual within a wider community. Breton, Catalan, Parisian.... all are equally French and, more importantly, citizens of the world. I am a Francophile, and proud of it.

Nous sommes solidaires, mes amis. Vous n'est pas seul.

This is Scary.. No haha-funny BS or sarcasm involved. No cause for this. The scarier part? We're not allowed to carry weapons and defend ourselves..

Je suis entièrement d'accord, mon frère. Vive la belle France!
