Random Thought Thread

I read about this a few days ago, it's pretty... umm... I'm going with "different".

I always like to skim the comments to see how people react, I especially like the comment about the t-rex, that's pretty funny!

Yeah, I'm thinking that he's a troll, if this isn't entirely made up to begin with... it takes all kinds to make the rest of us feel good about ourselves.

I once managed to keep a pen I liked for 6 months. I was quite proud of myself.
I've never been able to keep a biro for more than a few weeks. But the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has an answer...as usual..

"Zaphod Beeblebrox, became increasingly obsessed with the problem of what had happened to all the biros he’d bought over the past few years.
There followed a long period of painstaking research during which he visited all the major centres of biro loss throughout the galaxy and eventually came up with a quaint little theory which quite caught the public imagination at the time. Somewhere in the cosmos, he said, along with all the planets inhabited by humanoids, reptiloids, fishoids, walking treeoids and superintelligent shades of the colour blue, there was also a planet entirely given over to biro life forms. And it was to this planet that unattended biros would make their way, slipping away quietly through wormholes in space to a world where they knew they could enjoy a uniquely biroid lifestyle, responding to highly biro-oriented stimuli, and generally leading the biro equivalent of the good life."

RIP David Bowie.....

"Say Goodybye to Bowie" at the Space Bar and Club, Jinan, tonight 8:30 PM.

Older Men Scam

Women often receive warnings about protecting themselves at the mall and in dark parking lots, etc. This is the first warning I have seen for men. I wanted to pass it on in case you haven't heard about it. A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular customers at Lowe's, Home Depot, Costco, Publix, B.J.'s, or even Wal-Mart. This one caught me totally by surprise. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends.
Here's how the scam works; Two nice looking, college-age girls will come over to your car or truck as you are packing your purchases into your vehicle. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. (It's impossible not to look). When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' but instead ask for a ride to McDonald's.

You agree and they climb into the vehicle. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them starts crawling all over you, while the other one steals your wallet.

I had my wallet stolen Aug. 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, again on the 17th, 20th, 24th, and the 29th. Also Sept. 1st, 4th, 8th, twice on the 16th &17th, and very likely again this upcoming weekend.

So tell your friends to be careful. What a horrible way to take advantage of us older men. Warn your friends to be vigilant.

Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for $2.99 each. I found even cheaper ones for $.99 at the Dollar Store and bought them out in three of their stores. Also, you never get to eat at McDonald's. I've already lost 11 pounds just running back and forth from Lowe's, to Home Depot, to Wal-Mart.
So please, send this on to all the retired men that you know and warn them to be on the lookout for this scam. (The best times are just before lunch and around 4:30 in the afternoon.)

Just had to brag on my beloved. We married over 5 years ago, and are nearly 9 years into this relationship. When we met she was not much of a sports fan. o_O I fell in love anyway, I know right? I'm shocked too. Of late she has become more of a fan (the past 4 years or so - given the past 2 years of the Royals has made it easier :D) But she was excited about Andy Reid coming to KC and she's been watching football with me on Sundays pretty regular. Well with the advent of the past 2 years of playoffs in baseball, she had a higher interest in football playoffs this year and took it upon herself to learn both the NFC and AFC divisions and teams to better understand the seeding process and formatting of the NFL playoffs.

I am so proud this day as we last discussed it on the 3rd and she texted me today with all the teams in their divisions in both NFC and AFC. So she RETAINED all this information ...

That is all back to your regularly scheduled programming.

I have a random question related to iPhones. My daughter said she bought a generic charger & when she plugged it into her phone, the phone said something like "hey, that isn't an Apple charger you plugged into me so I'm not going to let you use it"

Does anyone know if there are any inexpensive chargers that work with iphones that aren't necessarily made by Apple? I'd like to pick up a car charger & a wall charger for her but I don't know iPhone stuff, & I want to spend as little as possible.

There are chargers putt there which can charge an Apple phone; I tend to avoid the brand so I can't say which models are better or worse supported.

I do most of my online shopping at Amazon, and judicious perusal of the customer ratings generally tells me whether the device in question will work for me (first hint: ignore nearly all the five-star ratings).
