Putting to rest the myths about Task Killers/RAM Optimizers and the like

No such luck. For one, I'm 6.0, as of the other day. And 2, we're back to the damn locked bootloader thing again.
The advice I've been getting is to either switch carriers or switch devices.

But thank you so very kindly for your suggestion.
hmmmmmm odd I jus rooted a zte running 5.1 LP a week ago. and every device I've ever rooted or flashed recovery on had a locked boot loader. hmmmm ok sorry she didn't take for ya man. Odd I've rooted a few LP devices lately with latest kingo. but not all devices except same methods I suppose. damn sucks, thanks for filling me in. what kind of device do you have/trying to root anyway?

Guys, don't want to put a kibosh on your interesting (Kingo root) discussion, but let's try to stay on-topic with the task killer/RAM optimizer discussion please (LOL, we're now up to 427 posts if you know what I mean ;) :).

Thanks!
Oh wow! ya you're right bro our bad. Way off topic, didn't really realize where I was posting I guess. OK back to why task managers suck and are snakeoil! lol.

Gotcha bro. Not the first time I forgot what I was talking about.
Lol I knew what I was saying. Didn't realize where I was saying it lol. So to keep the thread "true" Do you/have you used/fell for task managers ram optimizers etc. in the past. Im not going to lie. Once upon a time I fell for them and the whole playstore rating joke! lol. Its like the microwave we want what we want and want it now! so its like nobody reads. they see some yahoo. who prob don't know how to operate his own device give a 5 star to a wack apk & BLAM! all the non readers follow suit and a bunk apk ends up highly over rated!

I was convinced long ago that nothing can task manage better than android itself.
I was just curious what some might have to say about purify(which I just uninstalled), since it came from xda, which doesn't usually endorse tm"s.

Right, I trust XDA myself. And ya Android/googles "dream team" isn't going to build a device that requires a 3rd party apk to "keep it in line" keep things tighty stop apks etc. lol absolutly. But I've only been tinkering for a short time really. So I guess I pick up quick idk lol. but ya I swore by task managers for a HOT second. I use Greenify now that I knw better. And I do us Xposedmod for all the extra features it gives Greenify as well as other apks that won't function fully without. A lot of ppl oh xposed is for stock to theme with.....Not true it had sec patches for older OS's etc etc.

Greenify/freezing is really the only true way to save a lil juice. Everybody uses all these task managers etc. because well knowing/caring to know the truth isn't priority for them. They figure 5stars oh it must be the best thing since sliced bread then. no need to READ I guess! lol

I'm sure about 100% of the techies (following suit, newbies, which I still consider myself) rely on xda for all their tweaking and customization needs.
I mean, where else could you go?

But... If I had root, I believe I would employ purify, as most of the app needs root to do its job. That's pretty unusual for a tm to need root permissions , which to me, must mean something.
What it means, I'm not sure.
That's why I asked about purify in the first place.

Well purifys ur deal cool I'm not going to act like I know the apks capabilitys in and out I just know I won't use a phone unless its rooted romed etc. (just me) I knw you would root you're device if you had a method. So I always make sure before I even purchase the phone if it had root, the method any OC kernels. RECOVERY is big need that..Don't need need if you know what not to do but its best/first thing one should do after root besides nandroid but ya there's ALOT of good stuff zips to flash from the fine devs right here on Android forums. its where I get my stuff. Members sliding me zips. or Google around for em. but yes XDA has some very good devs and products out there if you will.

A lot of people believe what other people believe, and it spreads like wildfire. All of a sudden 15 people are giving 5 stars because the first person (who may not have a clue) said he doesn't know how they lived w/o something for so long.
It would be nice if all the techies (with all their spare time. Yeah right! would do the star ratings, right?!

Absolutely. they just DL cuz some dude before another before another etc. said he couldn't live without an apk that lil to his knowledge does jack or is making his OS "Sick" like a "task manager" lol absolutely! [emoji23]

Lol Ya I actually go through and try an give a more proper rating. lol exposing bad work from quack devs best I can. keep these shmoes on there toes. Its really not right to put soft/firmware out there for ppl to use based on lies & devs that either are complete morons or liars or both.

I guess impersonating Android Authority is the new fad between these cleaners

I recently went from a iPhone to a Samsung (Galaxy S7), and noticed that some apps kept running in the background, even when you stopped them, so my dumb uninformed ass looked for a app and noticed Cleanmaster on top, used it in the past on my old tablet and never had real issues. Until i noticed that the apps closed by the program were starting up anyway, so googled and came upon this thread, uninstalled Cleanmaster asap and went with Greenify as recommended here.

But than the main reason i used Cleanmaster was because of junk that piles up from use, does this still fall under ram optimizer apps as the function is also available in Cleanermaster and was the main function i used in the app mostly.

So my question is, should i actually get a (recommended here) app to clean out junk or does the Smart Manager in Settings handle this perfectly?

Welcome to our AndroidForums, @Necramonium :).

Not sure what Smart Manager is (I don't have an S7), but I've had an Android since November 2009 (many devices) and never used any kind of app/RAM manager other than what Android does itself.

Admittedly, Android before v2.1 (Eclair) did not do a great job at RAM management, but for/since Android v2.1 and above, let Android and the underlying Linux kernel manage the apps and memory for you.

You can always use the Settings -> Apps -> <app> "FORCE STOP" button or use the process stack from your home/launcher and swipe it off the screen to stop the desired app, but it's typically not necessary or needed as has been covered in this thread in relentless detail :D.

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice, and Smart Manager is a system application that was introduced for the S6/Edge, here is more about it: https://news.samsung.com/global/sma...-your-galaxy-smartphone-as-good-as-new-always

It pretty much has the same functions as apps like Cleaner Master, i hope more people are gonna be aware of this function and in future smartphones as well as it does the same as those worthless apps that only damage your phone!

Her's a list of the apps I have disabled on my Note4,you should be able to do similar to your device w/o any ill effects & actually enjoy improved battery life:

I get rid of TONS of what I call crap apks. And am a big greenify fan. If one uses xposed for greenify one is enabled extra functions

Clean Master and CM Security came preinstalled on my Asus ZenFone 2 and I stumbled across this thread while looking for answers to another problem. Let me say right from the start I'm not in anyway biased for or against Cheetah Mobile, I just speak as I find. I've been using these apps for about 9 months and I've never had any reason to suspect they are a threat to my privacy more than any other apps that require ridiculous permissions that are totally unnesessary in respect to the job they perform. If I was to refuse permissions then at least half the apps I use on my phone would never have been installed. You have to question why apps that don't have any negative comments such as games etc also ask for permission to search your contacts, messages and other private information, and have the right to add and remove data from your SD card. The majority of apps in the Google Play Store all require permissions that invade users privacy not just Cheetah Mobile. As far as I'm concerned Clean Master and CM Security, plus the CM Private Browser all seem to do the job they are intended for. They clear out unnecessary files and junk which are using up precious memory and warn me of malicious websites. The browser allows you to search websites and then deletes all browsing data on exit. If I had any reason to suspect that the Cheetah apps were malicious then I would uninstall them them straight away, I have that option in the settings menu, but I haven't got any reason to think that and this thread could just be causing unnecessary scaremongering and doing the apps an injustice. They work for me and I've got no reason to uninstall them just because a thread on a forum tells me to. If I was to do that I would need to replace them with similar apps that again would ask for permissions to invade my privacy, so as far as I'm concerned it's better the devil you know rather than install similar apps that would require similar permissions to the Cheetah apps. Doesn't it say anything that Samsung, the biggest supplier of cellphones in the world, would risk their reputation by installing apps on their devices if they were malware? Everyone's a bloody expert who think they know better than the true professionals. If the apps were malware I'm sure they would not be available from the Google Play Store so if anyone has differing views then feel free to comment and reply. Just don't send me links to other websites with the same BS as on here.

Welcome to Android Forums.

I like you thought Clean Master was great. Every time I ran it they patted me on the head and told me all the space I hag freed up.

I ran it three days in a row and did NOTHING else during that period. Each time I ran it it reported that I had freed up 1+GB. It was always exactly the same number. I had done NOTHING.

The bottom line is that they lie to you and make up the numbers they report.

If you run ANYTHING from Cheetah Mobile you are asking for pain.

Why it is still distributed on Play Store and pre installed on some phones is beyond me.

... Thom
