Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

That's my cue to lock the brakes up (the window smacking part),
Would have loved to have done that, but unfortunately for me, it was the rear passenger side window that they smacked. And then they zoomed by me.

The Jerks did it just to cause me to stop, so that they could zoom by me.
I've seen a couple of bicyclists who behave like that get 'crop dusted' by guys in diesel pickups.
And they deserve it!

Imagine a certain Joan Jett song playing in the background (I think you'll know which one)

I hate myself for loving food
'Cause I can't break free from the things that it do
I wanna stop but I just eat more food
That's why I hate myself for loving food!

Yeah... I get close to a reasonable weight, and suddenly find myself shoving seconds or thirds into my gullet.

Today I called my credit union to ask why a payment I had made online to my internet & cable provider was rejected. The woman said I had put the account number in wrong, so I said, "my acct number is 312345 & that's what I put in. My number used to be 12345 but when my previous credit union was swallowed up by the new one, they told me to put a 3 in front of the number & that was my new number."

The lady on the phone said "oh no that's not right, drop the front 3 & add 810 instead, that's the number you need to use now."

My credit union was merged into the new one SIX years ago, and somewhere between then & now, apparently they changed our acct numbers again & didn't feel like telling us! I asked her how the heck I was supposed to know this? She said you have to log into their site, pick your account (checking, savings, whatever - where it shows an abbreviated number), then click on the menu on the left & pick something, then click on some other menu option, and that shows our full account number.

Oh gee, that's so simple, I'm sure all of their other customers have figured this out on their own...

That's asinine!

Though that reminds me of a few billing issues we've had because I keep getting new ATM cards and a lot of the bills are done off my ATM.

The numbers are the same, but the expiration date? Yah, all of a sudden I'm behind on payments because the original cards date went past.

That's asinine!

Yes it is! And of course to top that off, I was charged a $30 fee from my cable provider for a rejected payment, which they said they'll reverse - but I'll believe it when I see it. Before the credit union merger I was able to have my cable bill paid automatically but the newer software for online bill payment refuses to pull in my bill so I don't know how much to schedule, & end up having to pay it manually each month.

I'm currently shopping for a new credit union; I found one with high interest checking but the reviews are mixed. I'm thinking I'll give it a try anyway.

Oh goodie, my rant is on topic tonight.

Some asshat stole my debit card information. Fortunately I caught them on their first purchase (for $3.23 from the Amazon bookstore) and shut the card down. I got hit last year by identity thieves for about $400(got it back though).

My fridge is still offline... Guy showed up, "where's the part?"

Well you sure as hell didn't leave it here, or I would have already installed it.

Find the part in his van-- it's broken. "We're going to find another one and overnight it."

Nice. To bad I won't be available until next Tuesday. Lowes lemon policy is three service calls in 30 days.

They'd better show up next Tuesday with that part so I can call in another problem on Wednesday.

My rant for today...

People who, while traveling along at about 50 mph, and decide to come to a Complete Stop for No Apparent Reason!

Three times this morning, I came very close to smashing into the car in front of me, because some Jerk up ahead decided to stomp their brakes for no reason

We could have a whole dedicated thread about driving rants. People do the most insane things with their cars.
Absolutely!

And many times the problem is that the driver is so focused on their wants and needs, that they completely ignore everyone around them.

Driving home from work yesterday, a guy in an SUV, coming out of a shopping center, crossed 5 lanes of traffic, all at once, just to get to the lane he wanted, all the while, nearly causing 4-5 car wrecks.

Mistakes I can forgive, we all make them, but dumb-ass manoeuvres are unacceptable.

I could post dashcam footage of drivers doing insane things. I'd have to blank out the audio because I tend to turn the air blue with cursing :D

Also, people who see that the speed limit is 75 and decide that anything slower than that is fine in the left lane.

What the HELL is wrong with you!?

Car drivers that ignore or don't understand compulsory lane markings.

You have a dedicated lane for buses to mow down cyclists? :p

I'm sure many places and jurisdictions allow bicycles in bus lanes, sometimes motorcycles as well. Probably a great big bus can do a lot more damage than a car, on the other hand there's usually much less of them.

And in theory bus drivers should be more highly trained than most car drivers, like not using phones while driving and paying attention. In the UK, I know it's certainly a much harder test to get a bus driving license than a car driving license, same with any commercial or large vehicle license.

Where I mostly ride my e-bike, it's completely segregated cycle lanes, no buses, trucks or cars, and there's usually bollards and things to keep them out. Most major routes in China are like that, roads are built for bicycles. During peak times there can be as many cycles and e-bikes on the road as there are cars, and do get bicycle jams sometimes.

You know what the main problem is with drivers on the road? Impatience. It causes people to do the most ridiculous things.
Honestly, is it the end of the world if you have to wait for the traffic lights to go green again? Are you really prepared to make that crazy overtake, to gain a few seconds on your journey time?

Yes, in some cases. We have a left turn arrow that only lets on car out before changing. If you get some idiot watching his cell phone or texting so you miss 3 turns -----

If you want to text at a light, fine. Better than while moving. But remember you aren't the only person that wants to go and move when the light turns. Don't sit there waiting for the right shade of green.

Yup!

There is a lot of that in NoVA.

Perfect example...yesterday on my way to work, a car blows past me, and then the road narrows to one lane each way, and the Jerk driver decides to completely Tailgate every car in front of him. The first car he Tailgates, move out of his way into a turn lane (even though they did not want to turn), then the second car ahead of the Jerk, pulls off of the road. Finally the third car in front of the Jerk, refuses to get out of the Jerks way, so the Jerk crosses the double yellow line and passes the car. Then at the stop light, when the light turns green, the Jerk starts Tailgating the next car in front of him.

Honestly, I might have thought, at that point that the guy was in a hurry because of some sort of emergency, but when I pass him in a right hand turn lane, I briefly looked over and noticed that he was simply an impatient young, silver shades wearing, jerk.

My only hope is that some Cop catches him driving aggressively, and nails him.

And just this morning on the news, they said a company is testing flying drone taxis out in Nevada. We can't even get people to drive safely on the roads, now we're going to the sky? The future seems scary.

Don't know about taking to the skies either, but I reckon self-driving cars would be a big step up in terms of safety. Take the human element out of the equation.
Then again, where's the fun in that :D
