2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

I can't find the post, but somewhere on here suggested not trying to exchange phones with the silent call problem. I am just curious what the reasoning is for this.

I have the silent call problem and it is driving me absolutely batty, but I respect people on this forum and if there is a good reason not to try to return my phone right now, I won't do it.

As far as the OTA being halted due to faults with the already installed updates... it's plausible...

TDianna said earlier talked to a VZW support person and they stated just that (to be taken with a grain of salt)

He said maybe in a few days hey might get it because of some last minute issues with the firmware.

Plus, the claims they made on the PDF are inaccurate, so maybe they're running around in circles trying to figure out what to do about the false claims??

If you are running the leak, I'd wait to see if you actually get the official OTA since there MAY be a possibility it can fix it. If not, then return the phone, if something drives me batty, and I can return it, I will.

As I, and other users have previously stated, this is a controlled release. The deployment of this update is happening to a random sampling of users. The guy that posted pics of his update is from St. Louis. I'm actually just a hop, skip and a jump away from him. I didn't get my update. The release could be based off of ESN's, geographical locations, etc. To us, there is no rhyme or reason. The people administrating the update have their reasons, primarily being quality control. We are probably 1-5% of the total Eris user base. Grab a chair, sit back and have some popcorn. This is going to be a while.

Don't forget to check up on instructions for how to log the OTA url to share with the community. Granted, you won't be compensated for your time but this community will be appreciative. The guys over on XDA-Developers will want to get this download as well. That gets us all hopefully one step closer to root access for everyone.

I think they were referring to those on the leaked versions not to attempt and return their phone. However, if the issue continues after receiving the official OTA, then they should return it since the issue is happening with the official 2.1. If you try and turn in a leaked version, there is a possibility they won't honor the warranty since you installed a "non-official" version on your phone.

You are seriously believing that because no one is "reporting" that they have it since last night, that there is a problem with the firmware?

No...not the firmware. Most likely a server issue or something to do with it being rolled out. The 2nd part of my post was a joke. This code has been finalized for some time now.

It's been strangely quiet...can't find any information about people getting the update today. I thought I would see dozens of threads titled:

I GOT IT!!
I HAVE IT YOU DON'T!
IN YOUR FACE!
SUCKS TO BE YOU!

My sentiments. There has been a LOT of this in the past. Just strangely quiet. That's all.

The only problem is that if the firmware that is being released has some flaws that they are now working on fixing, will we really want the link to that file or are we going to want to wait for the fixed version.

I'm finding it hard to believe that all of us with leak v3 will not be getting the OTA. If we can re-flash v3... then I assume that if the OTA does have minor differences, with the same version #'s as we've already established... a re-flash is just as possible. We should even get it if the OTA = v3 with zero changes to the code...

As someone else has already stated, it would be a software nightmare for VZW/HTC/Google if they don't have all customers with the exact same software. Future updates could then cause major issues.

Speculation is all we have until the OTA reaches more of us...

We will probably be able to flash the official 2.1 build over our v3 leak. I'm skeptical that we will have access to the 2.1 OTA update in this first wave. That is why it is important for those that get the OTA notification to log the URL. It isn't just so people can get the update w/o waiting. It serves another important purpose - the further development of root 2.1. Builds off of the official 2.1 will likely be more stable.

Shoot, have someone set up a PayPal donation for the guy that ponies up a working URL for the 2.1 update. I'll chip in a beer for that guy.

I just got a tweet from verizon support saying that the updates are being sent out in random order, and there are 12 days left for the update.

This forum, like many others, is moderated. Off-topic, poor taste comments will be deleted. The offending poster(s) may even be banned temporarily. You may see fewer "Ha, I got it and you don't" responses because they are deleted soon after they are made. Or....

They never cared about the significance of the update in the first place. Bragging to us means squat, unless a dozen or so people have e-heart attacks.

There may be some truth to this claim. As a software developer, I can't tell you how many times sales/marketing will tout some feature and claim it is available in our current release when it only exists in our development version. The chaos that ensues while trying to backfit new code into an old platform is never fun.

Verizon might be trying to prevent a PR nightmare by suspending the rollout. If that PDF gets removed or changed, then we might have our answer.

In the thread about logging, someone has an OTA waiting. Looks like it is still rolling out.

In a later post, he added a picture of his update notification, and it looks like an app update. Not the OTA. Unfortunately so far there has not been 1 single report of a received OTA today as far as I know.

Every piece of software and firmware ever written has bugs. That is the rule unless it is less than one line of code, in which case it MIGHT be bug free.

There have been some changes to the PDF since it was first loaded onto the Verizon support page. They have been discussed in pages past and in other threads and forums. I don't believe the gallery app is included with the the official update - it is ported from the Nexus one I believe. The .apk file for this is on the forums. (By the way, if you are on leak v3 or the official OTA the program should work well)

The roll-out for all we know is still ongoing.

Alright, guys... just finished going through this whole thread to quote everyone that has claimed to get the OTA. Here you go:

Just finished downloading the update, it is installing now, took about 30 minutes, I know it's my first post but it did just happen. I'm in Northeast Ohio.:D

I'm at work so I'm on and off the forum as needed. Rebooted and have been running Home and not Sense. Update kept all programs on each home screens as they were. Went to Sense home and my saved scenes were gone, so went back to home. Phone is faster. Some Icons are different. I know photos are bad, using laptop cam, Firmware 2.1, baseband 2.42.00.04.12, kernel 2.6.29-a033cb9a htc-kernel@and18-2 #1, Build 2.36.605.1 CL165907 release-keys, Software 2.36.605.1.

Tucson, Arizona, received update at 11:00 p.m. last night. All is good except the new weather app is not working.......click on widget on homepage, takes you to weather, a notice comes and goes before you can read it then a black screen appears......anyone else have this issue?

I had 30mb internal memory. OTA installed fine. So far not noticing the signal bar issue as I've still been at 3-4 all day before and after update. So i dunno. Could be a phone issue like the silent call bug. Swype is running like shit tho...

bummer. i started the download and went for a walk, came back ready to play and i had to free up more memory, so i still had to sit there and wait for it to load

lies........i KNOW THIS FOR A FACT,MY NEPHEW AND HIS WIFE HAS BOTH RECIEVED UPDATES AND THEY ARE ON VERIZON.NEPHEW RECIEVED IT AT 2:15PM TODAY AND HIS WIFE RECEIVED HER UPDATE AT 12:30AM THIS MORNING

i was at work. 3:30 am, was on 1.5 and in western ny. south of buffalo

does this work? this is my app store on 2.1 took pic with digital camera

I know y'all like actual proof, but you're gonna have to take my word on this one... This is a convo between myself and a professional LPGA golfer whom used to stay with my family during the Wendy's Championship for Children several years ago. Basically, I'm saying I trust her, and she didn't have the leak, she was on 1.5...
anyway, she got the update tonight! So lucky, but never fear, it's on it's way to everyone

EDIT:
-For those of you that don't read the convo, the update WIPES YOUR PHONE CLEAN so make sure you backup everything you want to carry over, especially contacts. Backing up your contacts is very easy... see http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/41385-how-backup-your-htc-eris.html

I spoke to a cool Verizon rep in my area (who had leak v.3 running on his Eris) and said once the ota is completely rolled out and my leaked phone didn't get it, he said just bring it in for a warranty replacement if you still have issues with the leak. He said no one would look that closely at what version 2.1 you're on once the ota is out.
That's good to know since I've got the silent call issue occasionally running leak v.2.

they are the same, a tech would NOT NOT NOT be able to tell, no matter how hard they looked, if you were on V3 or the official OTA.

1218 hours in New Mexico...and Yes New Mexico is still a REAL state in the United States of America.....and I still haven't gotten the OTA.
