Tweets This AM from Sprint...

sprint

Android users:Sprint continues to work closely w Samsung/HTC on 2.1, on track to be avail Q2. Sprint had hoped to have this resolved by now.

Many thanks to our customers for your continued patience as we work to bring you a positive experience with the 2.1 upgrade

If anyone needs help to flash it yourself hit me up. I have patience and it's fool proof, plus you can always go back to stock in about 5 minutes. :)

The 2.1 (unofficial) update has some issues, but they are few and it works so much better than the 1.5. I've been running it for a while now (maybe a month, can't remember) and I like my phone so much better now. People should take Dreze88's offer, and have some fun.

Where is the other 2.1 thread with the instructions on the First post on how to install DD03 and DD10 and all that? I thought it was stickied...?

I think it was rooting and installing 2.1 for dummys.

These tweets, and the fail that this release has become, is good enough for me to bring up the question "Why the HELL would I want to buy another Android from Sprint?". They cant get updates out in a timely fashion. Why would anything think this is going to be different with the EVO?

Well the Moment/Hero need 2.1 more than the Evo would need 2.2 cus there's tons of problems with 1.5 as we all know.

Sprint doesn't make the updates. HTC/Samsung does.

Not true, since you want to pick my post apart. Google did the update. Samsung and HTC are merely configuring it for thier own handsets. That still does NOT get Sprint off the hook. Im not calling HTC / Samsung about problems with my handset.

Given the fact that the Moment runs a pretty stock version, with a few exceptions, of Android, there is little reason why we have been waiting five months for the update.

And Zero, while I can agree with your comment, I was merely making a point. Do you really want to have to play this long, drawn out waiting game EVERY time there is an OS update? I certainly do not. And you'd be mistaken to believe that the EVO wont have its fair share of problems when it drops. How long do you want to wait for a service update?

Sprint does make the final call on the builds. HTC/Samsung have to make it work with their hardware, but seriously, Sprint has full control of accepting or rejecting the build.

With that said, it's very frustrating that Sprint isn't lighting more of a fire under HTC and Samsung to get this done. It's totally obvious from DD03 and DD10 that they aren't really close yet, but how about a decision on what is "BETTER" than the CL14 experience.

Just my thoughts...

I say root it if you're impatient.
Most of these "releases" are rumors anyways, so I don't know why people keep thinking that they are actual dates. Sprint is doing nothing wrong waiting to release something if it' not functioning as they see fit, if they release it and shit still sucks, THEN be angry.

I was on the phone with a CSR yesterday too. They have no clue. He had no clue what I was talking about, then after being on hold I was led to the software download page on Sprint.com even after I told him 1.5 was there since Feb. No one has a clue when they will release it until they release it.

Im not sure why you are saying they were rumors. Sprint themselves stated originally the 1H 2010, followed by early 2Q, and now its back to sometime in Q2, or 1H 2010. Actual dates were rumors, but the time frame isnt, and Ive never held them to a certain date.

And I love how you say Sprint has done nothing wrong. Sprint released the Moment all kinds of jacked up. As Ive stated. It launched with an outdated OS that should have never been on CDMA devices to begin with as 1.5 didnt support it. Location services on the Moment were buggered because of it. Fast forward how many months? for the CL14 update? Steaming music still blows. But hey. I should be happy that Sprints "doing all they can" (tm).

Root does not solve running an outdated OS. If by root, you mean flash to the latest leaked build... no thanks. I have enough issues with my Moment, I dont want to have to reboot every day because of CDMA lockups.

Nothing new to see here. Sprint does not discriminate. They keep their employees as much in the dark about stuff as they do their customer base. They have been doing this for years. Way to improve your CS Sprint.

Not sure if you know what you are talking about. The leaked 2.1 solved all of my lock-up issues, my bluetooth issues, muting the phone while talking issues, GPS issues (google maps with Nav KILLS sprint nav), etc.... Oh, and Pandora works PERFECTLY, I mean PERFECTLY now.

My Moment has gone from crappy, to barely adequate, to fantastic!

The only issue I have with the leaked 2.1 is battery life. It's not as bad as when I first got the Moment but it's not as good as when I ran Numus' battery patch.

+1 masbirdies statement about the leaked 2.1.

I've flashed Calkulin's 2.1 ROM and my phone runs fantastic. I have very little to complain about...

Well congrats to you, but not everyone is getting the same great performance. I still get lockup every other day, my bluetooth went back to a static mess after DD10 for some reason, and Google Nav locks up whenever I really need it.

I drive a manual xmission so I need the bluetooth to work NOW. Sometimes I forget to plug in my phone to the car charger, and I want it to still have power NOW at the end of the day! One of the main reasons I bought this phone was for the ability to use it as a GPS Navigation unit so I need it to work NOW, not freeze somewhere around 14 miles before my exit. When I have to go online and check bank statements and whatnot, I need it to do it NOW. Not after shutting it down, pulling the battery, and waiting for it to reboot, find a signal, and finish loading all the startup programs.

I want a smartphone, not a deadbeat pot smoking hippie dropout that thinks it can do everything but cannot actually function in the real work.

I completely agree, love the phone, but some things are beginning to wear on me as well, including the lockups and lack of anything useful on my GPS. May be my only experience ever with Samsung I think. Got my eye towards an EVO, but really, a Blackberry seems to be so much more refined and functional in every way. I just like the freedom and app capability of Android it's very hard to decide ... Does anyone know if the Droid has as many issues with lockups and things? Just wondering if it is as much an Android thing as it is a hardware phone thing ....

My brother has a Droid and he never has any Lockups on his phone. Motorola built that thing solid. I love this phone but EVO 4g here I come, HTC has a lot of Love for their phones.

I flashed mine to 2.1 a couple weeks ago and have really been enjoying it. There are some instabilities though.

I was wondering which ROM everyone else is using? I just used the basic DD03. I was going to do the DD10 but I saw a thread on another forum somewhere about how unstable that one was. Then there's DC23 and DD10_joeykrim-recovery.

I was thinking of trying another ROM and seeing if it performs any better but I don't want to go through setting up all my emails and installing my important apps again if I end up going to a ROM that gives me more problems.

I'm going to have to agree with you. At least phone wise, this will probably be my last Samsung purchase. I still like their TVs, but thats another story.

At this point, I dont care if its Sprints fault or Samsungs fault. The oringinal device was a horrible, barely fuctioning piece of crap. That was the state of the handset for nearly 4 months. A partial fix came with CL14 and thats where we have been holding ever since. The biggest issue is that its taking way too long to be able to do ALL of the most basic things that we should have been able to do with the phone back in Nov.

For those of you that have a leaked 2.1 and arent having any issues, good for you. However, it shouldnt be up to the dev community to fix what Samsung and Sprint havent been able to do.

And for the record. I did enjoy my Moment when I first got it, but as more problems came to light, and little being done to fix it.... well needless to say, its pissed me off.

I wonder how recent this is and if DD16 is more recent or this update is?

I believe this DE03 is the official 2.1 release. If you look at the installation instructions and everything they're dated for tomorrow.

It appears the official "release" will be tomorrow but they've already updated the Updater file. They just aren't planning on telling us about it until tomorrow.
