Accessories Car Dock Discussion Thread

Well I got it and totally forgot about this thread. I've used it once, and will be using it on a upcoming trip to PA.

Although cheap, it does what it is supposed to do. First and foremost the suction cup is HUGE! I'm not kidding. My magellan ipod touch dock is about 1/2 its size.

It seems sturdy, and the only wiggle you get is where the arm attaches to the dock. I can remedy this with some epoxy, just haven't done it yet. The arms slide allowing you to slide them to give acces to the charging port.

Overall I am happy with my purchase, and don't think I will replace it with a more expensive one, due to the cheap one getting the job done.

I really like the idea behind that Tetrax holder. Problem is I have the Verizon holster and the back of the case isn't smooth :( Wondering if it'd be worth it to sand a smooth circle into the back of the case.

Really been having a hard time finding a decent vent mount setup that works with a case on the phone.

I'm not quite following the difference between the XWAY and the regular one. You can't turn the regular one?

I am liking this product though because of its size. and I wonder if I could stick the ring under my silicon cover instead of on top. That way I might get the hold without losing the smooth backing.

The only issue for me is the vent mount. My vents are rather low so I'll have to see how their FIX product works.

The difference is the amount of support.

Do these circles stick to any case surface? I have the red/black gradient case and am not sure if something like that would actually stick...

I am certain that if you follow the directions/surface prep it will work. I have the Soundgate M2 and that thing is holding tight to my GEL case from VZW.

Heres my mount i made... of course i took some ideas from this thread.

I made it using a 8 dollar car mount from walmart and using a toilet water flexible threaded hose ($4). I then put a metal coat hanger (doubled over) through the hose for rigidity and then hot glued the end to keep it from wriggling out

the other end i cut 2 grooves in the end of the hose so it could fit in the tracks of the mount

it mounts to the car using the seat's bolt, and I made it from a random bracket i found in the garage... i beat it into an L angle and then used self-tapping screws to mount 2 metal cable ties to hold the hose (i grinded the end of the screws down so they wouldnt rip my upholstery).

and now it sits right next to me so i can charge it from the outlet in my console

I couldn't take a picture with my dinc in it.. because these are picture FROM my dinc hahah

Any recommendations for a dashboard mount for the Incredible (preferably in landscape mode) for those of us living in states that forbid windshield mounting?

my dashboard is too far forward, so i made a clear plastic pouch for my sunvisor... when i flip it down i can just slide my dinc in the pouch. If that helps lol

Check out the M2 that a few of us are using. All you need to do is attach the disc for landscape mode instead of portrait.

I bought the Arkon one that connects into the lighter. I really, really like it. The only problem is the little grabber things that hold the phone on the sides covers the usb port. I have to raise my phone up about 1/4" off the bottom support to be able to plug it in. Not that big of a deal because it is very secure when the grabbers are holding it-- it doesn't budge.

Just thought I'd give a head's up if you were considering purchasing one.

I also have the Bracketron with the vent mount, and highly recommend it. I found it online for $19.99 and also at the local MicroCenter for the same price. It rotates for vertical or horizontal viewing. My favorite feature is the side holders spread apart so they can be positioned to not cover either the usb or volume buttons. There are also legs on the bottom that can be used for other devices, but move out of the way as they are not useful with the Incredible.

I thought I would share this find with everyone. For those that are using after market holders and mounts here are some great cables for routing anyway you want. Also here is some chargers that flush mount in your power outlet.

Here is my set up for my 2005 Mustang GT its a ProClip Vehicle Specific Car mount with an adapter I had to match the Verizon Holster mount.

I attached mine in the MIDDLE, just like directions. I can rotate to Portrait (like it suppose to, or landscape (as if you taking it out) and it holds fine.

Good to know! I attached mine higher than the middle for two reasons.

1) I never use landscape in the car.
2) I didn't want the phone teetering around on a flat surface. With the disc higher I can actually use it pretty well on a table.

Either way, I've very impressed with this mount. Small, clean and stable.

Quick update after 2 days with the M2. All in all, I'm very pleased and can't see changing this out unless someone finds a way to integrate power and audio into a mount which I highly doubt. Anyway, I ended up unscrewing the bottom screw and reversing the mount to raise the phone up higher. Didn't even think of this at first. It's a much better viewing angle now, but I did lose just a bit of stability because the original way the entire phone was contacting the mount. Now it's floating from the disc. That being said, it's extremely stable while driving, even over some ridiculous PA roads. The only time I notice anything is when I try to hit the lower buttons while driving, but that's easy enough to deal with by just supporting the phone with a finger while pressing, and I honestly think even that small amount of play is from the case as I noticed there is a bit of movement there. So to anyone looking at this mount, I'd definitely recommend it. It's small, gives a decent amount of mounting options and is rock solid once tightened up. Here's the change I made.

Thanks for this update looks great! So did you end up using the "portrait" mount position with the disc?

Thanks for the recommendation! I'm not sure if I like the idea of having to attach adhesive discs to the dashboard and phone, though. But I'll definitely look into this option.

What about friction "bean bag" style mounts? Has anyone found any good mounts for the Incredible that don't require adhesives?

I installed the soundgate and love the size of it but having a heck of a time getting the disc to stick to the back of the black and red gradient case. I let it sit for a few hours and worked for about 2 hours then popped off. I tried some outdoor double stick tape thinking that would hold even better but it only lasted taking the phone in and out twice. Thought bout superglue but the disc has to sit up a bit. If I can find something that holds this its a great setup. Any suggestions. Thanks

Is the gradient case a different material than the silicone ones? I'm having no issues at all using the adhesive that it came with. Are you properly cleaning the case first? Since it sounds like the adhesive is failing on the case side, can you glue just that side? That would leave the adhesive there so you can mount it.
