Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Just clicked on this link and it says the account is suspended. Anybody have a clue as to why this would happen? I assume that they are only open during business hours, and it is almost midnight, but that seems like a weird response for a business that is just closed. If anybody can shed some light on this or give a working url, I'd appreciate it.

Wow, really odd indeed. Really glad I gave no payment info now!

Does anyone else realize, that 3 weeks from today, there will be tons of hands on review posts !!!!
I hope the reviews will be good. Otherwise, many people will be pretty upset. All this hurry to get one pre-ordered and then it sucks. A thrill of being an early adopter is the bragging rights but also one of the first to feel pretty stupid if the item is not up to expectations. I really hope Sprint is not leading us a merry dance.

Amazon is selling a micro HDMI to normal HDMI adapter for under $20. One of them is under $15. To top it off, you don't have to pay sales tax.

Is that for the adapter? Or the whole cable? I think the other one is the whole cable which is better, for obvious reasons, than just an adapter.

Forgot to mention...I went to the sprint store today to find out about pre orders or sales. The guy I spoke to said no such thing, had to be there on the 4th and should get there early because they already had a lot of interest. THE BEST PART...he said they had one in the back that the employees were allowed to play with. He said it was amazing, it killed me not to be able to see it. EVOloution day is 21 days from now!!!

So i went to pre-order at BB when i got out of work and it was 54.13 i believe and the rep said it was all going towards the phone but when i got home i called the # on the back and it said there was only $50 on the gift card. I even asked the LP thats awlays at the front of the store watrching the cameras to see if there is tax on gift cards and he said no and that that was weird that it did get charged. Should i got back n get the 4.13 back or trust the BB rep that said it was going towards the phone.
My take on this is to go back and get the tax amount on your gift card back. Today the representative might say that the extra $4 something will go towards the phone, but on June 4th, the reps might be singing a different tune. It is better to get $4 something in hand than to hope that the $4 something is reduced later. Nobody should charge tax on a gift card. Period!

More like 2 weeks from today. Reviews usually come out a week or so before the device launch. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if sites like Engadget get their Evos a week from today so they have ample time to play with them.

On another note, carriers must set a time when Review sites are allowed to release their reviews. With the Incredible pretty much all of the reviews dropped on the same day - that must be a condition of getting a free device to review ;)

If the EVO comes with a case, why would anybody bother purchasing another one?
My first BlackBerry from Sprint came with a case that was enclosed. So if the phone was in it, and somebody called, I would have to pull out the phone to see who it was. Not much of a feature! Sprint might want to give a rotten case with the phone so that you (or some other EVO user) will go back to them for the case, in which Sprint have made extra money.

The Amazon deal for under $20 is only for the adapter. I would go for the adapter for 2 reasons: (1) the adapter + cable at Amazon will be far cheaper than the whole cable from RadioShack or BestBuy (not to mention the extra sales tax) & (2) the adapter is useful if you already have an HDMI cable. I have a TV from which I have connected 2 HDMI cables (one for the cable DVR and the other is for my laptop). Now, if I have the EVO, I can simply connect the existing cable to the adapter and then onto the EVO. I don't have to replace the existing cable behind the TV that is hung on a wall. Much more convenient.

Oh...well that makes sense. I thought we were talking about the cable listed in this forum a few pages back. The one from arrow or some such distributor. That was only like $8 but who knows what the quality would be.

Just thought I'd share, but if anyone else loves Seidio as much as I do; I wanted to share a 10% discount code on orders over $50 CODE: MAY10 this offer ends May 17th. I'm hoping Seidio releases their cases and what not for the EVO before then, but I've already signed up on their site for information on new products for the EVO and haven't heard anything as of yet.

Just found this... Sprint while trying to figure out the evp thing. If anybody has any insight as to why there seem to be multiple websites offering evp for sprint, please explain. However, unless someone here can convince me otherwise I will most likely only be calling the one found on sprint's website.
i was wondering why evpdiscounts.com went out for the night. the site looks like a shady phishing site that was identical to sprint....

I'm a little concerned at the moment about the usefulness of the hdmi output. So far every demo shown has just been for the video player or photo album, and in this official video he says it's for "video, slides and photos":
YouTube - HTC EVO Overview.wmv

So, what if you want to display the web browser in landscape mode on a big screen? Pinching and zooming around on a huge screen would be absolutely amazing. But so far it seems like the hdmi port isn't a simple video output of whatever's on the screen. I especially hope it works with the video chat program and web browser, and I'm sure there are many other uses that would be amazing, like playing a driving game using the accelerometer in the phone with the big tv displaying the graphics.

Unless anyone has seen a demo video that I've missed showing this, I'd say we won't know how it works until everyone gets it home and tries it, so I'll hope for the best. Just seems weird that they're only talking about it as a feature for watching videos and photos and not as a regular video out for the screen's signal.

What do you all think?

Thanks for the Code, I hope we can use it though!

Maybe if you have a Twatter or BookFace account you could query them as to approximately when they will have the accessories available? They are linked on their store homepage. I would do it but I refuse to associate myself with those evil websites.

Ok let me clarify this for you. Arrow is the distributor for MOLEX. MOLEX is the sole manufacturer for this type D micro HDMI cable right now. My previous posts showed the full cable specifications. By the way MOLEX HELPED DEFINE THIS MICRO HDMI STANDARD:

Next Generation HDMI Type D (Micro) Connector

So yeah...I think this more than answers your question of quality. I have two of them and they are built really well. I've been an engineer working with molex products for over 15 years.
