Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

For those of you searching Amazon, please post the link to these Micro HDMI cables. I honestly don't think they have them available here yet. And "MICRO CONNECTORS" is a name of a cable brand not the HDMI type just FYI. Thanks

EDIT: I'm not looking to prove anyone wrong. I just don't want you guys buying the wrong type of cable or adapter because I see a lot of mislabeled MINI vs MICRO cables online and as far as I know Molex is the only manufacturer making these right now.

Ok let me clarify this for you. Arrow is the distributor for MOLEX. MOLEX is the sole manufacturer for this type D micro HDMI cable right now. My previous posts showed the full cable specifications. By the way MOLEX HELPED DEFINE THIS MICRO HDMI STANDARD:

Next Generation HDMI Type D (Micro) Connector

So yeah...I think this more than answers your question of quality. I have two of them and they are built really well. I've been an engineer working with molex products for over 15 years.

Thank you for the clarification.

After reading the above, I went back to my search and although I searched for the correct keywords, I did not notice that what came up was micro USB. My apologies for the misinformation. :( It's late and I'm tired.

Thank you! I've been spending the past 15 minutes typing different iterations of micro HDMI or HDMI D or whatever on Amazon and couldn't find anything.

I though I was going crazy.

In regards to the Molex cable....the reason I haven't jumped on buying it yet is because of the short length. Two meters is a bit short for me. Using that on my TV would leave my EVO hanging in the air....not ready for that quite yet.

Anyone see any longer micro HDMI cables out there? I have to say, it seems a little weird to me that Sprint is touting this whole HDMI thing so much, but there aren't any cables available to use the feature. I bet they are just going to sell them at a ridiculous mark-up in their (and BB and RS) stores.

No no totally understandable. Just wanted to help you guys out. I wouldn't want you guys getting the wrong cable or adapter. My main post was also to help you guys avoid the price gouging that best buy and Sprint will do for their cables. People just aren't aware that buying as close to the manufacturer will help avoid the dealer mark up prices. Glad you didn't buy that cable. I'm keeping an eye out on monoprice to see if molex struck a deal with them yet.

Yeah I know what you mean...I'll keep an eye out and make some calls next week to my buddies at molex to see if longer assemblies will be available. I'll either PM you if I find something first. Are you thinking more 3-5 meters?

Exactly. I figure 5 meters is long enough to plug it into the back of a TV and still sit it on the front of the TV stand. That being said, 3 meters would probably work too, just have to sit it on the back of a TV stand.

This will be the last piece of my pre-EVO buying spree. Already ordered the skin/cover from Zaggs, and a 16GB microSD from Amazon.

Pre-ordered the EVO from RS today (had to go with RS here in Hawaii since BB doesn't sell Sprint here...that being said, figure with the $20 accessory credit, it is the better deal regardless....even if they don't have anything you like, you could get an extra 8GB card for free since RS sells them for <$20).

Will probably wait on the car and home docks until a bit later.

THREE MORE WEEKS!!!

Just found this... Sprint while trying to figure out the evp thing. If anybody has any insight as to why there seem to be multiple websites offering evp for sprint, please explain. However, unless someone here can convince me otherwise I will most likely only be calling the one found on sprint's website.

EVP (Employee Value Program) services a multitude of corporations. Some companies even get a whole dedicated website of their own that ultimately leads back to EVP. There is a parent company behind EVP (can't remember the name right now and the website is currently down). They are 100% legit. I have ordered from them before and there have been several emails/discussions on this thread about a specific representative that several of us are interconnected to.

Just FYI, 5 meters is almost 16-1/2 feet. You should almost be able to hold the EVO in your hands while it's plugged into the back of your TV. The 3 meter cable is almost 10 feet. So your EVO should easily be able to be sitting on your TV stand while plugged into your television.

By the time this was posted it's less than 3 weeks 'til release. This will be a great phone.... and I hope Sprint sells a "ton" of them!

Anybody have suggestions on the best online site for EVO accessories? In particular I'm looking for a holster. Also, just for a goof, maybe somebody could chat up Sprint support, and see if the car dock is included.

You are correct, the EVP program is legit. I have a 25% discount on my family plan that gets me in under $100 for 1500 Everything family. Now if I can get the retention $10 credit, my EVO tax will go away as well.

Well this is for my KANSAS CITY people!!!

I went to Sprint Store in Overland Park and they advise me that the 4G towers are up now and that they are currently testing them by flicking them on and off -- the rep said that they should be ready to go by June 1st!!

That makes paying the extra $10 worth worth it........wait.....I got mine waived for 24 months!!

There's always a 2-cable setup: The Molex one and this connected together:
For only $7.04 each when QTY 50+ purchased - HDMI to HDMI CL2 Rated M-F Extension Cable (24AWG) - 6ft (Gold Plated Connectors) | Premium 24AWG HDMI Male to Female Extension Cables

I posted a few pages back about my solution to try and ease the pain of the additional $10/month for the Evo by requesting the same 10% discount on my contract that Sprint offered me a couple years ago.

Rather than just asking for that discount, I went for the credit union discount instead. For anyone who doesn't know, Sprint offers a 10% discount for being a member of a credit union (pretty sure ANY credit union). I just went to the Sprint store, they glanced at my membership card for 5 seconds and added the discount to my account (should apply in 1-2 billing cycles). In and out in five minutes. I tried to do it over the phone first but the lady tried to spell Michigan with an 's' ... not sure I could trust her.

Anyway, go join a credit union if you're not already a member of one and get your 8 bucks (if you're on the $70 plan) knocked off! :D

Can this be stacked on top of an employer discount?

Most likely Sandisk would be your best bet.

Sandisk doesn't make anything above a class 2 micro-SD. Kinda funny since they're the ones that came up with the thing.

I've seen a Kingston and Toshiba, but nothing else I really recognize as far as established name is concerned.
