2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

I got the OTA this morning from 1.5. The home screen reset itself, but everything re-synced itself within 20 mins or so. All my apps stayed, my contacts re-synced, and my settings stayed the same (ringtones, etc.). Navigation works great, no live wallpapers, and no speech to text, at least not yet. maybe in a patch. who knows.

Did you have "Phone" contacts as well as "Google" contacts?

I did the manual update, and re-synced all of my contacts no problem, because I had already converted them all to Google a few months ago. I know my sister hasn't done this... Her phone numbers were transferred from her previous phone, which sets them as a "Phone" contact. Will those be lost when she gets the OTA update?

My partner at work just got her OTA update notification last night and has not updated yet. She wants to know if she will need Touchdown for exchange integration still. All the info page says is, "Support for 19 Microsoft

I don't believe the OTA will wipe Touchdown off of her phone, so, if the stock mail app doesn't work for her then she can still use it.

On the v3 leak the mail app worked and supported the Exchange security policies though. I sync'd contacts, calendar and mail with mine for a bit. What I didn't like was that it a.) slowed my phone down a bit and b.) I was only able to sync mail back to 1 day.

I am using the leaked v3 also and am also able to sync exchange completely... company directory, calendar, everything. I also do not like it in one respect... it forces you to set a minimum 6 character password that is necessary any time you "wake up" the phone. (If that policy is in effect on your company's Exchange server)This is somewhat of a pain in the @ss to me as it replaces the unlock pattern but oh well... I don't have to pay the 20 bucks for Touchdown. I do like the Touchdown app... very customizable but not for that kind of money if I don't need to...:D

haha $20 does seem a bit pricey, but, it enables me to get rid of my Blackberry for work which is awesome and well worth it. With the help of Google Voice to do the call forwarding, of course. :)

As for the password issue, search the market for LockPicker. It bypasses the need for the password each time you send the screen to sleep. And it's free.

Have we heard for sure yet if leakers are going to receive the OTA? I know VZW has said we will but is that confirmed?

as far as I know some schmuck on VZW twitter said leak installers would get the ota update. It's pretty clear to me, as well as other members on here, that is not going to happen. We may see a full install available in another week or so that we can download and install manually, but, nothing OTA.

The flip side of that is I can still set the screen timeout to never and manually put the phone to sleep. Otherwise it is just like having my Blackberry Curve, which I dearly loved until the "New" wore off.:)

That is kinda the opinion I was becoming of... I think because we have installed Leaked ROM's we are going to have to manually update from now on... unless the bootloader is updated. I would like to be able to Root my phone at some point in the futrure.

I got a dumb question. I usually keep my 3g off unless I need to get online. If I have both 3g and wifi off, will I still get the OTA or do I need to have one of them on?

No, just Google contacts.

Hey guys, I live in Maryland and have a leaked v2 with no update, has anyone is Sacramento with a stock 1.5 bought a lotto ticket, won $13, kissed a cow and received their update yet?

Now will I be able to save every other text message as well? I want to create a living wallpaper with it after I launch a space shuttle.:D
