How to Root my mobile Moto g4 play XT1602. kingroot not working
Unlock the bootloader, flash Twrp, flash SuperSU. Remove the unlocked bootloader warning by flashing the logo.bin and profit.
Looks good to me, scripts are nice but running the commands yourself will allow you to learn and can be beneficial in a repair scenario as well.James, thanks for the info (and apologies for being a bit late to the party). In my research, I found a couple of ways to root. One being like you suggest, and another that's more involved that must run some sort of script whenever the phone is rebooted. I found both tutorials over at XDA of course. I'm hoping your method will work on 7.1.1 / xt1607 without reboot issues.
edit: Oops, yes, my bootloader is unlocked.
edit2: here is the tut from XDA:

Many thanks!
First enable oem unlocking in the developer settings and unlock the bootloader through Motorola's official tool. Then flash TWRP for the g4 play and flash the Magisk ZIP through that and you're good.I bought a MOTO G play at best buy and want to root it. I havent found any information on my model XT1607. It's my understanding that the G4 Play "harpia" has a lot of custom development and excellent ROMs worth checking out..I might need some! The last phone I had that was successfully rooted was a Samsung Admire.
Anyway, no problems until trying to flash TWRP. 'Waiting for device' is all I can get. Trying to figure out why will be the challenge!
edit: I've got TWRP flashed. I decided to risk using my Linux Mint machine to get me over the hump. The only things I can think of that may have hindered my progress on my W7 machine were the USB cable (maybe it didn't like it), or maybe not elevating my command prompt with admin privileges. Who knows...
I'm currently running a backup, and I will attempt to write down more Linux-specific instructions to post here after I get some sleep.
I'll be running the stock ROM (unless something doesn't behave the way it should).![]()
You will not know the true power of this phone until you run custom. Seriously, you are doing yourself an extreme disservice running stock Moto firmware, it slows the phone like you wouldn't believe. Check out Lineage 15.1 from XDA for this phone here, it's the newest and most stable ROM out there for this phone now and compared to stock it fliesI might need some! HERE is a link to the ROM made by XDA user razhor54. Flash this how you would flash any ROM in TWRP. First do a factory reset, then flash the ROM, then flash gapps/magisk/whatever mods you want, and reboot
what is your exact model number?Joasonmerc,
What about g play 2021? I'm fixing to take a stab at root and I really don't wanna load stock unless it's my only way back lol.. Suggestions for that model appreciated✌
This forum is for the G4 Play, which is a different older model entirely.Joasonmerc,
