And yes thats true! customer service does not help anyone. I agree with you on that. Its still the best phone Sprint has. Nobody wants to deal with WinMo and the freezing. Its a boring OS. The Palm is just for girls.

This was brought up a few threads back. While its true alot of savy computer users may know about the Hero, there are far too many that do not. And a commercial or advertisement would greatly enhance the visiability and chance of this phone being bought off the shelves.
But I guess Sprint has a motive for not doing this.

My point with the commercials was covered already but let me reiterate. For us to get good accessories and all that we need this phone in it's current form to sell well. We all know about the phone because we already use the internet and already salivate over android. Everyone I talk to at work has never even heard of android or HTC or any of this. So how can we get more buy in on this technology without reaching out to the masses.
On a strictly business and marketing level why did Verizon release such a bold commercial for the Droid and sprint didn't even know they were selling it a week before it came out? I guess i am a business expert because I would have hyped this phone a little at least. It really is that good. And all the naysayers with little problems can take all that BS to the first gen iphone which was not perfect nor is the current version. If all you can handle is one thing at a time then the iphone is perfect for you. I am not sure you can even quote yourself on an iphone.

Part of me is wondering if it's because of the Palm Pre. That was, and still sort of is, their flagship phone. It had all the advertising we've been hoping to see for the Hero. The time between their releases was relatively short so maybe it's a marketing thing Sprint has to deal with for Palm vs HTC.

Right now I am still on the fence about returning my Hero.
I really enjoy the phone and am not experiencing many of the issues/bugs that a lot of people are running into. But Sprint's total silence about the phone, it's lack of advertising and the fact that most of it's service reps have no idea about it give me a bad feeling.
I was all fired up for the Droid but I think I'm going to pass...
Come Nov. 3 Sony Ericsson is dropping the Xperia X3/10...as long as this phone isn't picked up by AT&T or T-Mobile the chances are I will ditch my Hero and go with the Sony
Forget the Droid. If the previews/specs are legit this is the phone that will push Android to the next level and make Apple and every other smartphone manufacturer have to really up the ante with their future devices.

Yes i am tired of this stupid reset after reset only to find out. the fix stopped workin. I went to the sprint store amd they tried to say how it must be my battery cuz theve sold tons of them.
Im not, i can wait for the updates. I know im not going to Verizon and paying thirty dallors more a month. Plus i dont like slide out qwerty keyboards.

Mine's sitting on my desk, powered off. Unless something really surprising happens, it's going back early next week. I can manage through a lot of problems, I could probably even stand the disappearing icon/name problem, but the battery life is simply unacceptable to me. My Pre gets about twice the battery life (yes I have both).
if it weren't for verizons prices i would be doing the same thing.

I've reset my phone, placed it back in the packaging and will be returning it tomorrow. It's a tough decision, but I want to give the Droid a try. The phone is great, just not as fast as I'd like. There are also a couple of other considerations that are pushing me in this direction.
1. Verizon 3g coverage and coverage in general is much better where we live out in the rual areas (where the majority of our family lives).
2. 3.7" touchscreen will be a nice increase in viewing size (and the resolution increase)!
3. My wife is on Verizon, and I priced us a reasonable plan that fits our use (includes my corporate discount).
4. 90% of our friends/family are on Verizon, so it's free calling for us and them.
This was my personal choice, I don't think it's bad for someone to choose Sprint or the Hero over the Droid or Verizon. This all comes down to personal needs and right now I feel that Verizon fits that bill much better than Sprint or AT&T.

The lack of advertising for HTC products by Sprint is most likely due to other companies like Palm and Moto offering Sprint more Co-op advertising funds.
HTC has always been kind of a low-key/conservative company. Heck, they didn't start stamping there name anywhere on their devices until 2 years ago (Mogul).

Hah! If your first HTC was the Hero, that's something you'd never have guessed. There's no mistaking this as an HTC phone, and rightly so, they did a fine job.
Usually when I get a fancy new phone, I get a lot of 'oh new phone? cool'. This time I'm getting a whole lot of jealous gazes and 'whoa, what's that?!'
I tried the Moment for a few days and had all sorts of issues (2 bricked phones in as many days), the only thing I'll miss is the hardware keyboard, but no way I'm switching back to Verizon for that. I can live with this phone for a year and get something that blows the Droid out of the water then. Hopefully it'll be an HTC phone as well designed as the Hero, with a damn keyboard.

you need everything that came with it. I think they'll charge you piecemeal otherwise. Why would you not save "everything", especially when it comes time to resell?

I think I'm going to manage keeping both. Picked up the Hero, but we're buying about ten phones total and adding 4 more lines with the Hero or Moment costing $99 for existing accounts and $49 for new (pretty sweet). So my rep is sending me a Moment and hasn't said a thing about returning the Hero. Will be interesting to have access to both and have no worries trying the Moment out and not having to be under the 30 day gun.
People keep talking about the on screen keyboard. Granted I don't really have any problems typing quickly in landscape if I'm looking directly at the screen, but what I'm typing is the only thing on the screen. Not what I'm referring to which is often what I need to see as I'm typing. And the word completion pop ups take up the line that I'm typing so if I'm cruising and need to think for a second, I have to backspace to get the completion to disappear. It's not just the overall typing on screen, it's the other stuff that comes with it. I also hate touching the screen all the time.
I've disabled Sense on the Hero and don't miss it one bit. I've had to turn on/off the Hero quite a few times to get it back to working right. The most recent time I had 8 new voicemails with nothing on the visual voicemail and no other notification. On top of that, the typing was lagging. I'd be almost two words ahead of the screen and the haptic wasn't even keeping up. Quick on and off, and it was back to normal. And to get up and running when turning it on takes forever.
If the Hero is supposed to be a flagship phone and supporting 2.0, why not beef up the processor a bit? Especially if Verizon has the Droid and their own Hero (Eris) with an 8gb card for $99. Both the Hero and the Moment seem like the end of the 1st gen, and the Droid seems like the beginning of the 2nd gen. I'm sure we'll see a 2nd gen Android phone before summer hits, and I'm sure I'll be picking it up and will just sell the Moment and Hero. Still have my Treo Pro and Centro. So between the four I'll make enough money to buy the 2nd gen outright.

all i needed with the moment was 5 mins and I was done. The phone feels like a plastic toy phone. Does not feel as solid as the hero. It feels more clunky then anything. The keyboard is not very easy to use. When i was typing using its keyboard the letters were slowly catching up while i was typing. The screen is nice and all but i just don't see what is great about this android. Sense UI is so much nicer. I use 6 screens all the time on mine. One page is the home with a few apps. Second page i have is all other apps. 3rd pages is calendar, 4th page is bookmarks, 5th page is a bunch of shortcuts of people i call or text oftenly(love this page) and finally i have a dedicated page for twitter...

The only thing I dont have on my Moment that you mentioned was the twitter widget, but I use twidroid for that.
I had the Moment for 3 days and switched to the Hero. I couldnt deal with the GPS issues with the Moment. I travel around often and need GPS. Google maps could never get my position and I tried many methods. Sprint NAV would work but lose location every 2 minutes. The moments battery life is worse than the Hero. The moment was a little faster with browsing and the on screen keyboard was better. Also the Moment has less of a signal but calls sounded better than the Hero. I had HTC in the past and they are pretty good in support. Im not sure with samsung though. Since I had both phones I can say the Hero is better IMO.

I'd have to disagree with you going the other way. Hero to Moment. I find the Moment to be leaps and bounds better. Opinions really, but each has their own set of problems. I just find the Moments issues tend to annoy me less.
+1....I don't even have to run a task manager/killler because I have so much memory to spare, while with the Hero I had to be constantly killing background programs in order to free memory etc...
both devices have their share of problems, the main one for me on the moment is GPS, but as Edaze55 stated, Moments issues are truly less annoying ...
That's all pray for 2.0 for both devices, then we should all be happy
